- Today on Halfmilesniper I will be testing the Desert Eagle 44 Mag vs S&W Model 29 velocity difference. Which one will have the higher velocity?

Man that was interesting. I think we all got surprised a little on that one! That revolver must really be built good.👍
All of the Smith & Wesson N Frames are well built, they didn't scrimp on the steel at all. I think I might break out a couple 44 Specials...compare a newer model to an oldie from 1929.
@@Halfmilesniper thats a good idea, id like to see that. I've shot my dads S&W 44 mag & its nothing to play with. It made me take a step back the first time, fun to shoot it a few times occasionally but not really enjoyable to target practice with. Id like to hunt sometime with it. Not sure I've seen a 44 special.
Great video and two awesome guns. Thanks Halfmile 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed that Lance. I had fun just plinking a few rounds with a gun o never shot before.
What a good idea, comparing the revolver and semi auto. The desert eagle is a neat gun and it's on my bucket list to shoot.
It was fun finally getting to shoot one of the Desert Eagles. The weight of the gun eats a lot of recoil but there is still a good amount, which surprised me. I appreciate you watching.
@@Halfmilesniper No problem! I've held several desert eagles, they're heavy! A petite woman had to get a man to pick one up for her when I requested to see it at a gun store. The .44 magnum sure packs a wallop. I've shot a revolver in that caliber.
Hey Halfmile! What a couple beasts! Awesome video sir!🤘🏽🇺🇸🍻👊🏽🤘🏽
Thanks Michael, those big guys definitely attract a little attention, and deservedly so. Thanks for watching.
As usual great video!
Thank you DK, I appreciate you watching.
"I didn't expect that"...😅 Had to go back and watch a second time. Either one is no slouch, that's for sure! Great video and comparison Halfmile!
LOL, neither did I. I wasn't joking when I said the recoil caught me off guard, really expected the weight of the Deagle to temper the kick, nope.
Bet you really feel the concussion shooting those guns with those close walls around you. Been in indoor ranges when people where shooting .500 Mags. That's no fun at all.
I honestly didn't notice the concussion David but on the video you can definitely hear it reverberating, lol.
I'm loving those 44mags.. Great video Half..🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Me too, I definitely enjoy my N Frames and love the Magnums. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it.
Beautiful weapons...
Nice shooting.....
Awesome video....
Thank you....
Thank you all the way around, and thanks for watching, I really appreciate it.
Lotsa S&W 29/629 in my collection over the years. Even harvested a few whitetail with a 6" 629. Thanks.
I have 3 29s in the safe...this 6 incher, a 4 inch and an 8.5 inch. They live right next to my 44 Specials and my 41 Magnum, LOL
great informative video!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed that. I really appreciate you watching.
Cool video , Thanks
Thanks Bob and thanks so much for watching. I really appreciate it.
You should try some of the Underwood 245 grain talk about spicy
Some day I'd like to try some.
Great comparison video. I really like that 29.
Thanks Randal.
I might just have to do another revolver v auto test but with .22s...hmm, I can do 4 inch against 4 inch and 6 inch again 6 inch. Hmmmm.
@@Halfmilesniper either one would be good. Maybe do both 🤔
@@randalbigirvirvin1153 thinking my S&W Model 18 v the Model 422, both are 4 inches and maybe my 1949 K-22 v my 1937 Hi-Standard. Might be OK.
As we speak I have a desert eagle on it way to my local FFL dealer in apocalyptic White cerakote finish Chamberlain 44 mags as a Christmas present from my wife😁. Nice video
That is awesome! Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it.
Beauty & the Beast. Both great firearms. Federal did seem hot plus a big difference in spread on fps on a couple of rounds. Recoil looked a little stiff on both. Glad you shot them & not me. Very close comparison. Thanks. 👍 🙏 🇺🇸
I don't remember the Federal being this hot the last time I filmed the Model 29s (all 3 of them) and the recoil did seem stiffer than I recall. Between shooting botha guns my hands were buzzing a little, lol.
@@Halfmilesniper Especially with pressure & fps higher than stated on the box. Hands hurt & wallet every time the trigger is pulled. Another $ bites the dust or steel. But 2hrs of fun can be worth 2 days of pain. CBD cures everything they say. 😂😂 Not wrist whiplash!!!
@@billdye3530 If I would have had my act together I could have dubbed in cash register sounds for every shot, LOL. That was an easy $1.25+ each time those guns went boom...ridiculous for handgun shooting.
@@Halfmilesniper For hunting we don't mind the extra cost because of the benefits of food in the freezer. But with paper targets & gongs you can't make a steel taco 🌮 or iron burrito 🌯. 😂😂 I've had some that tasted like iron.
@@billdye3530 These rounds would be perfect for a hunt. I definitely wouldn't want to shoot a match with them LOL.
Very interesting, I still have to go with the Smith tho, something about that gun!
I love my S&W Magnums...I have 3 Model 29s, a 4 inch, this 6 inch and a 8.75 incher. That last one will definitely average over 1400 FPS I imagine. Nickle plated guns are so pretty when they're polised up. I appreciate you watching.
Sorry I missed premier been shit day but we will survive my dad's in ICU he's sick with UTI and pneumonia
I'm sorry to hear than Joe, I thought the antibiotics would have kicked that UTI. You'll catch the next one and that's cool.
thanks
You're welcome Stanislav
Big ol pistoles
They are, and that Desert Eagle is huge. That grip definitely fills the hand, lol.
Would Federal have been using a 4 inch barrel? That would seem like a waste on that round, but maybe a shorter barrel.
Just looking at the velocities I would agree they used a 4 inch gun. It's really odd because usually the advertised velocities are somewhat optimistic but not with this box.
I figured the Smith was faster I was wrong lol
I was surprised the difference was so close actually...only 13 FPS between the two.
Did I miss something or is that the first time a semi-auto beat a revolver for speed with the same ammo?
Nope Chris, it's been my experience that semi-autos run just a little quicker. I had the same sort of result when I compared 9mm from and auto and a revolver. The difference is due to the barrel gap that the revolvers have, you loose a little oomph at the gap.
👍
Thanks for watching Scott, I really appreciate it.
Some smokin' rounds. I had a chance to buy a Desert Eagle. 357 back in 2000 for $400 new, but passed on it. Dumb on my part.
I was totally surprised how warm this lot of factory ammo was. I still have some left, I should run some through my 8.5 inch Model 29, those extra 2.5 inches might have this ammo running almost 1500 FPS.
As for the Desert Eagle, I also passed on all of them for rock bottom prices back in the day...I should have jumped when I had the opportunity. That way, I wouldn't have to borrow one for a video, LOL.
Thanks for watching TRB, I appreciate it.
@@Halfmilesniper I bet those would really be cookin' out of a rifle.
@@45acp I think so too. I'll have to check with some buddies to see if anyone has a .44 mag lever gun we can try. I'm guessing probably close to 2,000 FPS.
@@Halfmilesniper if I had one I'd send it to you for the video.
We'll see what I can come up with. No promises though.
Not surprising results. Essentially no real difference between the two. I have a DE in 50AE, and a Magnum Research BFR also in 50AE with a 7.1" barrel. I have chronographed several loads between the two, and there is no real difference in MV. A few FPS here, and a few FPS there - no real difference. Interesting video you made.
I've done this with a couple calibers, semi-auto v revolver. They seem to be about thesame difference in velocity difference, with revolver being ever so slightly slower probably due to the cylinder gap. It was a fun test and I really appreciate you watching. Thanks!
👍 🇺🇲
I appreciate you watching, thanks!
Great vid and comparo, being a huge Desert Eagle fan (check my channel!) I always wondered how these two compared, speed wise! I wish I could do chrono tests myself but, well, I’m in California. 😑
I will have to check it out...BTW I am in California too...most of the time, lol
That gun is a bit much for you. I'd try a 357, most everyone can learn to shoot that magnum. 44 mag is no joke. I have several 44's and I was scared to death when I first shot one. I was intimidated when I bought my first one. But after about 50 rounds I was in love. A 44 gives you the confidence to go anywhere. Anytime. Met a few determined ""Yogi's" "in my days. And you really aren't too afraid. My dad always said if a 44 won't do it, you best leave it alone. And he was right of course. Why anyone would want or need anything else is beyond me. Some people can handle a 44 mag some can't. Mr. Halfmile was flinching every round. He won't be any good with a 44 mag, too much gun for him. It is, what it is. Peace.
