    What a precursor to the following Sunday when that father and son team would come in 1st and 2nd at the 500.

    so awesome to watch these guys learning how to use the air in a lower powered car on the fly. really wish Bobby had been able to run at Daytona for at least a few more years.

    Chris Economaki was a unique man. People liked him. People hated him.

      He definitely made a couple of snarkyish comments during the driver introductions. Economaki was definitely a voice I remember growing up since since he was a CBS fixture at the bigger races they covered back then; Daytona 500, July Talladega and August Michigan. I also remember my dad who was an Elliott fan not being a fan of Economaki or Hobbs. This was also around the time Ken Squier started to mix up names and numbers so the CBS booth outside of Ned Jarrett had its "quirks"....

      The first-ever race appearance of Dale Earnhardt and RCR’s iconic GM Goodwrench Chevy Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe.

    It's very 1st race the black number 3 ran. I became a NASCAR fan watching the 88' Daytona 500 because of that black 3 car. I was 8 years old and had no idea what NASCAR was but I thought the 3 car was so cool! Been a Earnhardt fan ever since!

      The girls were prettier back then, compared to girls of the same age today. Actually now you can't even tell men from women!

      I wasn't even around in the 80s. Seems like it was simpler times. Not much technology, but sure it was a lot more fun.
      Nice looking young ladies there.

      NASCAR sure screwed Richmond but they didn't kill him by screwing him somebody else did that

    • @tuowl0564
      @tuowl0564 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Richmond's situation was the product of the culture during that time. NASCAR, nor anyone, knew how to properly handle a HIV/AIDS athlete in 1987/1988. It took another 3+ years for Magic to break the "mainstream" sports ice. Even then people were vocal and irrational regarding his lifestyle and the disease itself.

      I thought it was a PRESCRIPTION drug. Not something illegal or performance enhancement.

    • @TheDime4life
      @TheDime4life 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was prescription/ over the counter drugs so the test wasn’t completely accurate according to Bill Jr in a later interview but at the same time it was probably better Tim didn’t race given his condition just because nobody knew how to handle and be prepared for it.

    43.9 205Mph. Well 2.5 miles long at a 45.0 second lap time is 200.00 MPH average lap time. Something was not right with that lap calculator. I heard them talking about it. The car we're so boxy with, the carburator plate. You really couldn't do anything without help.

    • @drivin379
      @drivin379 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But 2.5 is measured right against outside wall don't they ...so if run middle or lower line that shorten some wouldn't it ....or am I lookin at that wrong
