    I had one of these butane only model for backup stove and gave it away during a long power outage, but will try one of the dual fuel type. Propane burns hotter so a bit more efficient burn than butane. Propane is safe, as long as there a visible flame. It's only when you have a leak, or open valve and no flame that can ruin your day. Propane is heavier than air, so it sinks. Great video, and a cool lifting bed.

    Morning, we just bought a stove similar to this one except it only uses the butane. We decided to ditch the cooking with coals and try this method instead. It does look easy and we would have used it but bad weather is creating in. Might get to use our new stove this nest weekend. We camp in our van but not in snow or freezing weather. Thanks for sharing.

      (It’s the opposite of how you connect the propane to the stove.).
      1. Disconnect the hose from the propane bottle first.
      2. Then the stove.
      If you disconnect from the stove first, you will get propane gassing from the bottle.

      @noemiortiz8392 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CoderShare This is true a constant crisp blue flame is good but a flame that burns orange or yellow means not enough ventilation. Cook with eyes open attending what your cooking is a good idea leaving it un-attended is a bad idea for any kind of stove...tidbit if you burn something on your stove in a pan or pot or in the oven even in an electric stove it will still produce CO! Yes the burning food or pot will flood your house with smoke and CO. Easy just vent and use a CO detector. Even large gas range appliance may produce CO, that’s why they also require ventilation.

    • @fo1711
      @fo1711 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@noemiortiz8392 Ty so much for your answer, and yeah it makes sense if your food is burning, it sure creates CO if there's smoke, even on an electric grill. Never really thought about it before but it sure makes sense!

    I really want a dual-fuel stove, but so many reports of the propane regulator (plastic piece on hose) breaking within a few months use. You can buy a new hose, but the chinese company that makes all these dual-fuel stoves just sells you the same faulty proprietary hose (some have yellow plastic regulators, others red).

    • @RubberTrampRenegade
      @RubberTrampRenegade  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven't really used mine much, but I've never had problems with it. My brother reads reviews of everything he buys, while I glance at them but don't read too far into them. I have found that a lot of negative reviews seem to be operator error or misuse of the product. Not always the case, but often.

    Propane also comes in the same sized cans as your Butane can.
    With your stove, both cans will fit as your stove uses either Butane or Propane.
    Propane comes in the cans, green bottle, 1# bottle and 5# bottle .... on up to larger bottles.
    The larger the container you fill with Propane, the cheaper is the cost.
    You just take your refillable Propane container to a local Gas Place...Hardware stores, etc also refill Propane bottles.
    Butane will not light at 32° or below.
    The greatest benefit of using a duel fuel stove is that if you fill your large propane bottle before you head out to go camping or to spend 14 days on BLM land, most likely you won't run out of fuel before you go to town again.
    If you rely on Butane cans and there is a sudden drop in temp, you'll be outta luck....
    Or, if you decide to cook for a neighbor, using the extra fuel might also leave you short.
    Overall, you did a nice review... maybe have more information next time.
    Thanks.

      If you wish to do wok frying on a portable stove.... You will need the "IWATANI 35FW" Butane stove that have an output of 15,000BTU....
      It will heat up a 30cm carbon steel or cast iron wok to the proper stir frying temperature in 35sec flat....Indication will be your
      cooking oil in the wok starting to give off smoke..... 1min into the heating and the cooking oil in the wok is hot enough to ignite in flames, producing the char, smokey flavour (wok hey) that is normally associated with "high temperature jet stove" restaurant
      style stir frying.....

  • @JU0860.
    @JU0860. 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You will smell gas when it leeks (bad egg). LPG-gas (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) sold in volume is odorless which is why Tetrahydrothiophen are added artificially to the gas. But pay attention: Gas is heavier than air, so it accumulates in the car on the ground so you don't smell it instantly at night. Danger of explosion if you light the stove without first ventilating it (open door) !!
    Butane Boiling Point ("don't bother" condition): - 0.5 °C (1,013 hPa) / heating value 34.3 kWh/m³ (12.70 kWh/kg)
    Propane Boiling Point ("proper" conditon): - 42.1 °C (1,013 hPa) / heating value 25.9 kWh/m³ (12.87 kWh/kg)
    With Butan you can cook longer as long as the temperature is not under 0°C (32°F). When the water is frozen in the pan with butane (=dont bother) it's not possible to get a hot pot of tea!

    Great video!! I was looking for something like this. Now is butane safer than propane? I like the butane can because is easier to manage but I think is not as accessible as propane.

    • @RubberTrampRenegade
      @RubberTrampRenegade  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you enjoyed the video. I’m not sure which one is safer but I will say the butane is easier to pack along with me, but it doesn’t do well in colder weather. When I camp in the winter I have to use the propane because the butane won’t burn at lower temps. I bought a pack of 12 cans of butane on amazon 3 years ago and still have some left.

      Mike Beaver that’s why I came to the video. I use mine as an extra burner in my house and haven’t had any issues but I try to keep a fan on while its running. I’m not sure if I’d use it in your truck (depending on ventilation) you might be able to use it with your windows on and a small fan... I’d like to be able to use mine inside a 10 person tent with the windows open in case it rains.... I haven’t heard or read anything about propane vs butane but people in Asian counties use those at home often

Most of the time they don’t watch the whole video to see that I did what they said I should have done. I clearly said in the video to use the stove in a ventilated space while running my fan just inches above my head.

    Never use a propane stove indoors unless you are tired of this earth.
    Only BUTANE should be used indoors with an open window for ventilation and a Carbon Monoxide detector for safety.
    Yikes for him not knowing these issues before making a video about it??
