I currently use a surplus "mortars" ordinance box to store power tools on a shelf. Been wanting to build a "chuck box" for my SUV but your build looks better!
Eric T yeah, I spent a lot of time looking at chuck boxes and decided I didn’t want to have to lug the kitchen out of the car and set it up every time but it all depends on how you like to cook and what kinds of camp sites you visit. I like that I can have a functional kitchen anywhere and make some quick sandwiches in a parking lot because things are accessibile
I agree! What really impresses me is the combination of off-the-shelf, factory-made components (because most of us just don't have the time or skill to build something better than a $100 file cabinet, and if we did, the hardware would probably cost$150). But then combined with some great custom work to integrate them. The shelf and sink, the waterbrick and rechargeable pump-faucet...wow! Really well thought out integration! Thanks for showing us.
Thank God. Someone is actually using their brains and doing things the easy way. It would be sooo easy to use this even in a van build to save time money and effort. Kudos dude. I'm not sure why people don't use a goal zero for their solar power. Most people I know dont need a huge amount of power while camping anyway.
I like how you demonstrate how you secure everything down to the vehicle. One issue I always have with people's builds is that they have too much loose stuff in their vehicles that will turn into projectiles in an accident. Its all fine and dandy if people can fit and organize everything in their vehicles, but not so much if it all kills them in an accident.

so many smart ideas even i could put this together. many of these "easy diy builds" i've seen look overwhelmingly complicated. this looks functional, smart and doable.
That was my plan. No need for fancy tools or weeks of woodworking. I knocked this together in a few days and won't feel bad taking it apart and refining it as I figure out what parts work and which don't
Very functional and thought out build. Im a full-time rv'r and used several items "off the shelf" because it was much nicer than building things from scratch.
Awesome setup!! What I like the most was done on a “real family “ car. Not a Truck or Expensive Land Rover with over head cargo racks. And the detailed info about locking bolts&nuts. It is so hard to go to hardware store and stand in front of the 100’s of bins . That all look the same to me.

I’m impressed and love the use of magnets which appear to be my go to always. I wish to car camp so need to use a platform for my bed. This design incorporates that and more with the drawer shelf for cooking /washing etc. I can take so much from this video for my car camping days. Love the water bricks too. As a newbie and in the UK I must admit to not having seen these previously and the faucet blew me away too. Thank you so much for sharing your camping kitchen. My future car camping days are looking seriously brighter now.

Very nice! I too had admired that fold down sink set up one the egoe nest box. I love the magnetic rechargeable faucet - perfect for fold away kitchen. Kudos for fitting that all in a car.
@@KMF3 Be careful with the one I bought. It's fancy and touch sensitive but I dropped it soon after this video and the top panel popped off. I siliconed it back down but the touch sensitivity is a bit wonky now. Kinda wish it had more of a real clicky button.

Love these kinds of builds....What I did was car camp and start waiting ideas of things I wanted or needed while camping that night. What I learned was that even though it would be so cool to cook out the back of my 4runner hatch what I found was I had to keep my hatch closed most of the time because if I didn't I'd have all kinds of insects from mosquitoes, spiders, moths and fleas all in my car.

Just for info only. Big Lots sometimes has a collapdable sink without drain plug for less than $15. When u see it. Buy it becausr its a hard fine. Its in my camping gear.

While working for them, I happened to buy several of the blue water bricks, which I have storing fresh trxd. Water. These will work perfectly for me and never gave it a thought. Thank you! Because of my age and my husband's not an adventurous spirit, I believe I will be a little tired from the marathon to one and not to two. I will try to copy your ideas although, I would also like to sleep in the car.
Best of luck in your travels. If you’re going to sleep in the car, you might need to make a smaller, lower kitchen so the top is part of your bed. We’re in a tent.

I bought a costway fridge (rebranded alpicool) and it stopped working within 3 days. I ended up just paying the premium cost of a $1k arb fridge for reliability and peace of mind. They also draw less power.
Jonathan Ramirez Yeah, I was hoping I’d luck out but I figured if I wasn’t fortunate to get a refund (they didn’t have to), bought another cheapo fridge and that died with the next few years and had to buy a 3rd, I’d ~$1,200 into it which ya what a good brand costs and will last for decades.

Thinking about something like this for my CR-V. My concern is being able to access my spare. Next vehicle I'll make sure it's mounted outside because I don't want to take apart my kitchen by the side of the road!
Something to think about Kristen is how often have you actually had to use the spare? In 111k miles on my Element, I've used the spare once and it was a local around town trip, not cross country. I made the decision not to worry about any extra effort to extract the spare when camping.

There's lots of good options out there. I'd try to get one that uses a LiFePO4 battery - they are a bit bigger and heavier but are safer and have a much higher cycle count. Not sure the perfect unit is out there quite yet...I keep looking! I'm pretty disappointed by the new Yeti X line so although I like my Yeti 1000, I think I may try a different brand at some point.
I am using a Bluetti EB 240 solar generator. The only drawback to this is that the inverter is only 1000 W. Bluetti has some newer products with larger inverters. I have a 320 W rigid solar panel bolted to my roof rack that charges the Bluetti.
FRIDGE UPDATE: Some bad news on the Alpicool dual zone fridge freezer. It just randomly died. It was sitting plugged into AC at home (freezer mode) and I noticed the panel lights were off. Checked connections, tried DC, opened up the panel to check fuses, nothing. Just dead. It has been running perfectly since March but seems the power supply or control board just blew out suddenly. I contacted Alpicool through Amazon and amazingly they agreed to credit me if I sent it back. I think I learned my lesson: these Chinese knockoffs are a great deal but if they only last a year or two (or less), it's probably worth paying 2-3x as much for a Dometic, ARB, etc. and know it will last and be repairable. I have my eye on the CFX3 75DZ because the dual zone feature is so useful year round to me as a second fridge/freezer at home.It's a bit large for the Mazda but I'm getting a minivan this fall and it will fit great there. I'll make an updated video on this soon.
Thanks for the update I was just thinking that the refrigerator was such an expensive part of this build. Because I want to keep costs way way down I was thinking of not doing the refrigerator or solar but just doing a heavy duty cooler. Especially just for a weekend trip.

Yeah, I agree. They do sell drop in units but they are very pricy. This is a pretty basic build so if you can build a cornhole set, you could probably built this. No fancy workworking required.

Excellent video i did a similar build in my Jeep but instead of a filing cabinet i used a craftsman toolbox, I also have a similar water system the slide out for the sink is ingenuous i may need to borrow that one keep up the good work. I guess i need to do a video this has been very helpful for a weekend camper like myself

I just did the motion sensor lights for the hatch lid on my 4 Runner after watching too many videos of gearheads doing all sorts of complicated, switched, hardwired installations. Cheap and effective. GMTA!

So glad I tripped over this video! I have a CFX-35 that I've used in my GTI. It's only drawback is that I have to pull out the fridge to get anything out of it. I've contemplated some sort of slide-out. They're tough to find in an application as small as mine. HAHA! Keep up the good work!

Just for info only. Big Lots sometimes has a collapdable sink without drain plug for less than $15. When u see it. Buy it becausr its a hard fine. Its in my camping gear.

Because of my age and my husband's not an adventurous spirit, I believe I will be a little tired from the marathon to one and not to two. I will try to copy your ideas although, I would also like to sleep in the car.
Best of luck in your travels. If you’re going to sleep in the car, you might need to make a smaller, lower kitchen so the top is part of your bed. We’re in a tent.
Dont be like me and over pack. Dont think what ifs. I travel and do a lot of solo car camping. Never could sleep in car. Now I grad to a truck.

Here is a list of the key parts I used. I didn’t include the price of the fridge, Yeti, or solar panels in the video since these are optional add-ons (I happened to own). You can just use a cooler and skip the fridge and power stuff. The other commercial camp kitchens I mentioned don’t include these in their pricing either so I was trying to compare apples to apples. For refrigeration you can always go with a cheap cooler for a simpler setup that is much less money. I opted for a compressor refrigerator/freezer which is very efficient but costs a lot more, do what works for you. In this video, I had the Alpicool T50 dual zone which was awesome but just recently stopped working out of the blue - not recommended until they improve reliability but here is the link:

...if you get a compressor fridge, you’d also need some sort of battery to power it when the car is off. You could use a normal deep cycle battery hooked to a car charger but I already own a Goal Zero Yeti 1000 already and it’s a great portable package that includes the battery, charger, solar charger, and inverter in a tidy package that will run the fridge for about a day+ .

I bought a costway fridge (rebranded alpicool) and it stopped working within 3 days. I ended up just paying the premium cost of a $1k arb fridge for reliability and peace of mind. They also draw less power.
Jonathan Ramirez Yeah, I was hoping I’d luck out but I figured if I wasn’t fortunate to get a refund (they didn’t have to), bought another cheapo fridge and that died with the next few years and had to buy a 3rd, I’d ~$1,200 into it which ya what a good brand costs and will last for decades.

Thinking about something like this for my CR-V. My concern is being able to access my spare. Next vehicle I'll make sure it's mounted outside because I don't want to take apart my kitchen by the side of the road!
Something to think about Kristen is how often have you actually had to use the spare? In 111k miles on my Element, I've used the spare once and it was a local around town trip, not cross country. I made the decision not to worry about any extra effort to extract the spare when camping.

There's lots of good options out there. I'd try to get one that uses a LiFePO4 battery - they are a bit bigger and heavier but are safer and have a much higher cycle count. Not sure the perfect unit is out there quite yet...I keep looking! I'm pretty disappointed by the new Yeti X line so although I like my Yeti 1000, I think I may try a different brand at some point.
Hello I was checking out the Jackery portable power station 500 outdoor solar.
I am using a Bluetti EB 240 solar generator. The only drawback to this is that the inverter is only 1000 W. Bluetti has some newer products with larger inverters. I have a 320 W rigid solar panel bolted to my roof rack that charges the Bluetti.

FRIDGE UPDATE: Some bad news on the Alpicool dual zone fridge freezer. It just randomly died. It was sitting plugged into AC at home (freezer mode) and I noticed the panel lights were off. Checked connections, tried DC, opened up the panel to check fuses, nothing. Just dead. It has been running perfectly since March but seems the power supply or control board just blew out suddenly. I contacted Alpicool through Amazon and amazingly they agreed to credit me if I sent it back. I think I learned my lesson: these Chinese knockoffs are a great deal but if they only last a year or two (or less), it's probably worth paying 2-3x as much for a Dometic, ARB, etc. and know it will last and be repairable. I have my eye on the CFX3 75DZ because the dual zone feature is so useful year round to me as a second fridge/freezer at home.It's a bit large for the Mazda but I'm getting a minivan this fall and it will fit great there. I'll make an updated video on this soon.

Thanks for the update I was just thinking that the refrigerator was such an expensive part of this build. Because I want to keep costs way way down I was thinking of not doing the refrigerator or solar but just doing a heavy duty cooler. Especially just for a weekend trip.

Yeah, I agree. They do sell drop in units but they are very pricy. This is a pretty basic build so if you can build a cornhole set, you could probably built this. No fancy workworking required.

Excellent video i did a similar build in my Jeep but instead of a filing cabinet i used a craftsman toolbox, I also have a similar water system the slide out for the sink is ingenuous i may need to borrow that one keep up the good work. I just did the motion sensor lights for the hatch lid on my 4 Runner after watching too many videos of gearheads doing all sorts of complicated, switched, hardwired installations. Cheap and effective. GMTA!

So glad I tripped over this video! I have a CFX-35 that I've used in my GTI. It's only drawback is that I have to pull out the fridge to get anything out of it. I've contemplated some sort of slide-out. They're tough to find in an application as small as mine. HAHA! Keep up the good work!
