So it got wrecked pretty good. But it is flying. And it looks like I am not going to get away with making long video about first flight later.😂 And will have to make short video about it now and longer video later explaining everything.
Hello ivan your the project has attracted everyone's attention very well. Yes, breaking the sound barrier is not an easy task. I also suffer to do this. my project is to make shock diamonds from a jet engine (breaks the sound barrier).I have been trying to get shock diamonds for months and I finally succeeded. Many people on you tube have made an afterburner for a micro jet engine and their design works but fails to break the sound barrier. Everyone misses somewhere (your afterburner design also has this mistake) the nozzle should be a converging diverging nozzle so that the shock diamonds are taken and the velocity of the exhaust gas is greater than the ambient air flow velocity due to its high temperature and low pressure . That last sentence was a bit confusing, but I believe I was able to explain it. good luck with your project.
bro, you are right, I also thought about it, but I wasn't sure about it, so I didn't complain, but when I see someone has this same idea I am sure I was right. But you don't have to change the afterburner to make the exhaust gases flow faster. My desing included a solid rocket motor, that would made additional thrust for the plane when breaking the sound barrier, so that the jet engine isn't alone at this point, but there were some complains about the center of thrust then, so I changed to take it to 2 smaller engines placed near other like airbrakes in F-16. Unfortunately I can't make it becouse I am struggling with only jet engine, becouse it must be hand made :(
Like the afterburner control mechanism is pretty hard to make and in further desing it needs pneumatic things or something that adds mass, and maybe air drag so you can obtain it by getting more thrust for just the barrier. Like when the plane is travelling with uniform rectilinear motion you just power the rocket motors.
Hi Ivan im student of Aerospace engineering from Madrid, im impressed by your work. I’ll love to watch a video talking about the engine in detail emphasizing in the adaptative nozzle. Greetings from Spaim🤘🏻
Controlling such a small plane going at mach 0.9 will be extremely difficult! I can hardly control my 250km/h planes without FPV haha. I'm sure you can do it, however! Good luck!
Also please use express lrs for your control link as its latency is far lower than crossfire, this becomes drastically more important the faster what your controlling moves at. It also has better range.
@Ivan Markov I watched your channel from the whole start, and I am pretty impressed by progress you made, but if I would suggest you some tech, that I was trying to achieve. Once I thought, there is only one single thing that makes a airplane moves slower, and that is the air resistant. You might say you've done everything to minimalize this, but I think that there is next way to do it. Like why don't we just remove our air intake, and replace it with some small intakes placed at all of the airplane surface where it is possible to get the brand new air from. Then you close and open these intakes depending on where you are, how fast you do steer the airplane, how fast you go. That would allow you to basicly manipulate the drag of the airplane by sucking the air that makes this drag. If done correctly it could basicly make your airplane more manouverable and also by it you could reduce the nose cone surface by removing the intakes, and replacing them with small wholes in the nose cone.It would be very profitable on lower speeds. Like I know it is kinda going back to the 60's where you saw airplanes like mig 21, f-86 or anything like this with intake on the front, but it makes sense to me right now. Just take small Lambda probe and measure, how much oxygen you have got to take into burn reaction. Kinda long commen, I hope you read it :) good bye.
First Ivan, thank you for taking the time to do this Q&A video for us. I'm learning a lot. I do have a generic question in case you have some time: are all the aerodynamic "rules" apply at the speed you expect to reach for this scaled model? I know we test models in wind tunnels but do they reach your speeds and do they extrapolate? Amazing work!
You don't need to use a high power low frequency fpv system for line of sight flying, you can fly for kilometers on 5.2ghz systems which are far lighter. Another note is I would recommend you do not mount the antennas inside the carbon frame but instead as a small protrusion on the top and bottom of the plane. This could be done with minimum effect on drag due to the small size of 5.2ghz antennas along with a shroud to cover them in a more aerodynamic shape.
Great to see an update from you. Can you talk about which types of design and manufacturing processes you are using which are widely available? It seems you are at a high tech facility (printing inconel...) and I wonder if others could achieve similar results with less sophisticated equipment.
Are you gonna use a mechanical or software tweak that will allow lower deflection of control surfaces at higher speed ? Because there is a point where you will be so fast you will have to do super small inputs for the plane not the go nuts
Hi Ivan GL with the project, I had a question, how are the access ports are integrated into ur aircraft? and do you think imperial measurement is better? and what are the specifications like angle of incidence, NACA number, dihedral or anhedral?
re# reynolds number obviously, due to the small wing chord, no matter the airspeed the re# is very low. therefore, the use of a FLAT-bottomed profile should be considered.
information i see some less-than optimal design choices. (7:00 most people do not fully understand winglets or flaps. one fact about winglets that is generally IGNORED is that, winglets that are oriented roughly vertically act as (small) wrongly-located VERT-STABS. as you discussed, winglets represent an increase the frontal area of a wing. in other words, there are two factors that Offset the potential benefits received from the use of winglets.) 9:26 what you just described would result in unwanted constriction of flow, followed by an unwanted drop in pressure, where the cross-section 'increases'.! d
wow I was thinking how fast you would get out of range, so I calculated at 1000kmh you would do 30km in 1.8 minutes. I have the feeling that ELRS 900mhz might be even more reliable than crossfire, but either is a safe bet, specially since you're flying line of sight.
I’m building a flying wing platform and having trouble finding CG. I’ve crashed 7 times and no flight lasted longer than 30 seconds (I have flown other wings perfectly before this). How do I find Center of Gravity on a new build?
I’m confused why you can’t use the FPV. Is it a rule for the record or a legal requirement or something? I don’t know the specific details of your situation
I can't imagine how you will control it without FPV, it will be almost invisible. In 3 seconds it will fly 1 km, but it will probably not be visible from 200 meters. Unless it will be followed through a telephoto lens and display the image on the monitor so that you keep visual contact with it.
Impressive work! Sorry if you've answered these questions before... How do you plan to cope with wave drag? The equation you used for the inlet design is the incompressible flow energy Bernoulli equation, not the compressible flow one. As you speed up higher than Mach 0.3 you are going to have more compressibility effects.
Ivan, please, it is a bit odd to leave us hanging and not tell us what happened to the plane. Don't be embarassed, it happenes! Totally normal when doing something such experimental. Crashes *bugs* are there to use as valuable lessons, you will get there. But if you don't tell your community what happened we can't help. FPV Transmitter: TBS Nano, very reliable and super tiny and leight weight. Keep in mind to not have the antennas inside the carbonfiber fuselage, it wont let the radio signal through.
I have a question! WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PLANE????
I'm really excited to see more about your project. Really cool stuff man

I will definitely make one!

This is one of the best series on TH-cam
I want more TH-cam channels like this, it's so inspiring.
Good luck Ivan! ✈️
all the best Ivan! we'll always be here to support you! 👍🤙
The hair is a good look lol, keep up the good work mate can't wait to see how everything turns out soon enough!
How long will a flight last do you think? Fuel economy and tank size would be interesting to know.
From 3 to 6 minutes. Depends on how I use throttle.

Can’t wait to see the test flight video!! 🎉🎉
Очень классный проект Иван, продолжай в том же духе:)
I learned many interesting things during this video! Thank you! Looking forward to the new videos and to the plane being restored!

Great video! Excited to see that test flight😉
project of the year ‼️‼️‼️
you are so amazing! when you were younger, what made you interested in this field?
Congratulations bro
Great to see an update from you. Can you talk about which types of design and manufacturing processes you are using which are widely available? It seems you are at a high tech facility (printing inconel...) and I wonder if others could achieve similar results with less sophisticated equipment.
Congrats to 10k!

Are you makeing the engine by yourself or just the afterburner?
super excited to see more content
Hi Ivan GL with the project, I had a question, how are the access ports are integrated into ur aircraft? and do you think imperial measurement is better? and what are the specifications like angle of incidence, NACA number, dihedral or anhedral?
Great work, now what will power this plane in the final version, electric or gas turbine
Every serious crazy scientist sports messy hair! Keep up with your dreams buddy!

Love the project! What is the carbon wheel behind you off of?

what about the jet engine? have you tested it yet and do you have footage of it running?
Right now I’m missing only one part. But it is one of the most complex ones. Currently trying to find sponsor to make it.
I’m building a flying wing platform and having trouble finding CG. I’ve crashed 7 times and no flight lasted longer than 30 seconds (I have flown other wings perfectly before this).
How do I find Center of Gravity on a new build?
Send me an email. I can help you!
ivanmarkovavia@gmail.com
were you thinking about making identical but less pricey plane for testing?
Hi Ivan why did you decide to use an afterburner and not ram/scramjet for the extra power needed when you first designed the aircraft?
good stuff
Fpv uses almost no power in comparison to fuel pump…
For weight go 5.8 and even then range is no issue since you don’t want long range
where is the fly clip? thanks
Привет Иван, are you aware of the jet engines and airplanes of Игорь Негода?
Nice!
man I'm bummed I can't make cool shit like this. I'm gonna move to the US hopefully
How much fuel goes in the plane?
I’m confused why you can’t use the FPV.
Is it a rule for the record or a legal requirement or something? I don’t know the specific details of your situation
It is one of the rules for a record.
it should be remembered that CF is a bit like metal. as a result, its over-use in a Radio Controlled model is Not recommended.
How do you get such awesome hair?
nice
W ivan

I will explain it in details in future video about aerodynamics. The equation you saw on the screen is not the one I used to calculate inlet.
