I ve been developing for 3 years now and I want to tell you something. I was working on a RPG game with my friend, and then out of nowhere he pulls up to me and says :"Yo, can you script this?". It happend to be a simple quiz game with a horror feeling. I put almost 0% in that game and after we released it, it got thousands of views and hundreds of players. If your game is complex it doesn`t mean that it`s gonna blow up. Wish you the best luck and keep your self motivated!

Yes! Always start small too. I had this massive plan to make a catalog-based game years ago when UGC first released - think "avatar catalog creator" if it was made in 2020. Finished it, polished it, released in January 2020 and it didn't get much attention.
Last year, I made a similar, season-based outfit idea game to showcase smaller UGC creators and clothing designers, which somehow managed to hit 12M visits a few months ago.

Dude I hate when this happens as a player, seeing solid but overused concepts or just mid games in general get thousands of players, not saying these games are bad or anything, but there’s some games out there that are absolute gems that get like 100 players.

Another tip that iim actively following is, Dont try to be too unique, or in better words, dont feel like everything you do for your game has to be completely new or different. Thats gonna make you want to quit after you realize theres just no way to be 100% unique. Theres millions of games on roblox, youre bound to do something someone has already done, and thats okay. Just focus on your execution of the thing instead of trying to compete.

    • @katdoestuffYT

true but uniqueness it still very important or the game might barely get a dedicated fanbase, like if you want to make a simulator i see soo many people just copying a basic simulator game expecting people to play, but if you changed how it actually worked that makes it different from others then more people would play

I think there's also another important aspect that I don't think was mention: knowing yourself and your own capabilities. Some people might try making large projects right off the start or get too ambitious and become unmotivated or don't know how to do something. It's important to start at a point you can actually handle.

i suggest instead of making a game design document make a obsidian vault. that sounds weird to those who dont know but obsidion is a connected note program that allows basically everything that a game design document would but with the addition of markdown, checkboxes, a canvas (witch is basically a spreadsheat) aswell as linking documents and seeing every document you make for the vault in a node graph. it is beautiful for orginization and i highly recommend it.

My best advice here to contribute would be organizing all your thoughts. It's really easy to add on something just because it's cool or immediately go onto making things for the hell of it but you have to have some foundations first. Whether that'd be actual scripting knowledge or getting a scripted foundation in or planning it out with something like Google Slides which was most helpful to me.

I have a amazing idea of making a 2d platforming game with unique sword animations, and movement animations. There would be different powerup you can get from different levels (double jump, the ability to phase through objects you normally couldn't to get to secret rooms to get items, dash, etc). It would be much like Hollowknight, if you know what that is. The problem being. I don't know how to animate, make a inventory system, or make good items. This idea has just been sitting in my head while I hope someone out there makes it. I feel like 2d platforming games on Roblox or 2d games in general could be a whole new popular genre on Roblox. The standout feature of the game would be the hard boss fights, and combat system.
I love this video, and hopefully I can put some of your tips if not all to good use some day. Thanks!

Not the creator, but I've also been a struggling scripter for a long time and I have to say, learn by doing has been wonders for me. I learn and understand concepts mainly from DevForums and Roblox Documentations and try to work from there. I mainly script simple stuff like saving a simple string that gets stored in a database. Trying to copy from Roblox scripting TH-camrs helps at times if they explain what they're talking about and doing the work step by step. Joining a Discord server that has channels for code help has helped me a ton since the people there can fix and explain why a certain block of code isn't working. Hope these tips helped!

There will be a little side story that is a war between brands that will lead to the development of a limited car depending on who wins that will be given to all players that played at the time. Other limiteds will just be in the shops or for events. This is all I’ve planned so far!

You are motivated. You were motivated to write this comment, were you not? You were motivated to wake up today right?
See you're motivated but it's on these things. The difference is habits & instant gratification vs long term faith
Most motivation is habit or instant gratification. To get the longer term results that need more work, you'll want to do work to look at the long term results and see them clearly in your mind, to motivate yourself towards long term faith, and not think about the pain it will take to get there but embracing it as you go
Then take those actions rather than quick motivations like watching a vid etc.
This difference is a huge thing in understanding motivation and what it is

Very interesting, definitely an excellent idea to make your game even better for your targeted audience,
But we all know Roblox unfortunately doesn’t have every kind of audience, for example.. horror games, like the mimic, it’s has a limited player count due to the limited audience, so how would I know if my game or anybody else’s game would have a limited player count due to the limited audience that they are targeting, and could this limited barrier be broken somehow?

Can someone tell me if this idea is strong? So I’m making a game called laser cutter where you have a, well, a laser cutter, and your in a randomly generated maze with a monster (that I made in blender :-)) and you have to make to the end, and it’s a really big maze, and if the monster finds you you have to shoot it with your laser cutter and it will take some damage and retreat, the monster will have 1000 health and your laser cutter does 20 damage (so the monster won’t die any time soon) and there is a game pass that is a rail gun that does 1000 damage. This is a doors inspired game and has gone through lots of plot changes, and there will be multiple chapters, so that when you finish the long maze and do a puzzle with a code found around the maze you will finish chapter one. Is this idea strong or not??????? I would appreciate it if someone told me😊.
