Wow.I forage alot but have been missing out on loads! Never considered hawthorn, cleavers or brambles. Mine love sow thistle, dandelion, sorrel, cocksfoot grass, apple leaves and bamboo leaves.
Hi Vicky, great to hear that you forage too as there's so much great stuff to be had out there and another great thing about them is that they're not treated with fertilisers, pesticides or anything like that and much fresher too! Sow thistle and dandelion are real favourites with our piggies :)
I love this video! I’m adopting a Guinea pig from the animal shelter I work at and a lot of these plants grow here in the US as well. At least in my area.
Hopefully you should be able to find lots of free food for them where you are :) If you're interested, I have a printable forage guide that you can purchase on my website here: www.guineapiggles.co.uk/downloads
I'm really glad this was helpful. I think there are a lot of things that grow in the UK and the US - have you seen part 2 of the video as there are more things you can forage on that one - here's the link th-cam.com/video/sHdGydRGTFE/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much for your lovely comment :) I hope you enjoy foraging for your piggies! Keep an eye out as we will probably do a 2nd one with some more weeds and plants you can forage for your guinea pigs!

We are pig sitting 3 females for my daughters classroom over the summer. Considering getting 2 of our own when they go back. What im curious about is how much of their diet can be made up of grasses, flowers, etc. Everything i read says to give them only small amounts for treats and feed them only timothy hay, and i understand they should always have hay available, but in the wild their diet would be varied and not primary one type of hay, right?
Hey, quick question: My friend is having to give away her guinea pig and I’m going to be taking her. My friend said that they housed her with another piggy and they fought so they separated them and she said that now the piggy that I’m getting seems happy by herself and I was wondering if it’s okay to keep her like this if she seems happy or is it absolutely mandatory to have a pair? Thank you and love your videos!!
Glad to hear you're loving the videos! :) We always recommend a pair. Some piggies don't get on with certain other piggies but if they have a really large cage, the right food, things to keep them happy and occupied and are kept clean there is a better chance they will bond.
Hi! Your piggies are so adorable. Your information is really of great help. Thank you! Anyway, can i ask what kind of breed is that white/gray combination piggie with long hair? Sooo cute. ☺️
Thank you! I'm really glad you find out channel helpful. The grey/white piggy is Sparkles and she's known as a Sheba Mini Yak, otherwise known as a Bad Hair Day Guinea Pig! :)
Borage is fine for guinea pigs but I would recommend small amounts of a variety of plants rather than a pile of one or two. That way they don't get a concentration of one thing that might not be good in large quantities - variety is the spice of life but everything in moderation :)
I woud love to feed my guinea pigs with wild plants but i am scared that i woud miss it with some posionus plant. Is there anything you can be scared of?

This is really useful. I already pick dandelions and sticky weed but wasn’t very confident at identifying all the other plants.
I hope this helps with identifying other weeds that you can feed your piggies!

Could I also dry these foods after washing? So i can have some for winter? Or will that alter the nutritional value / make it not safe for them?

I just have a question. Can my guinea pig eat greenhouse grown green leaf lettuce? That was the only kind in the store so I had to get that kind.
Yes, green leaf lettuce is fine and it won't make any difference that it's grown in a greenhouse :)
How often can they have each?
U r great but I don’t have any of these plants 🌱😕😞😔
What breed is bayleaf? :)
Baileys is an Abyssinian piggy :)

Hi. I have loads of borage in my garden. I have found conflicting articles on whether it is safe to feed piggies. What is your opinion of borage?
Borage is fine for guinea pigs but I would recommend small amounts of a variety of plants rather than a pile of one or two. That way they don't get a concentration of one thing that might not be good in large quantities - variety is the spice of life but everything in moderation :)
