Thank you for sharing these video. I was born and raised in the Philippines and my family was fortunate to own the first generation Toyota Tamaraw. This video brings back good old memories
Its an Asian Utility Vehicle or AUV for short. These cars were popular in most parts of Asia during the 1990s up to the early 2010s. Toyota has been competing with Mitsubishi and Isuzu in this segment but this car was discontinued in favor of having a MPV/minivan succesor in 2006. Too bad these cars are being overshadowed by MPVs (Multi-purpose Vehicle) or what they call in the west as minivans. Mitsubishi already followed Toyota's footstep and discontinued their contender Mitsubishi Adventure in favor of a minivan. Isuzu is the remaining seller in this segment and its the Isuzu Crosswind/Panther.
Im a Filipino and we use these revo's alot back in the days and we punish them to the max and they still get going. My family used to own a Mitsubishi adventure and thats similar to a revo. Much respect and you can tell the love this bloke has for his car.
My family has the old look the 1997 tamarraw fx 1.8L gas. Awesome car. 180k km on the odometer and still works. I recommend toyota’s, they are the best
This we called Toyota unser, manual gearbox bulletproof reliability.until today still running strong, very cheap to maintain, low fuel consumption, still good after 300 thousands miles.
I owned this car, I live in Indonesia. I can confirm that this car was one of the most durable mofo on the road. One of the other durable mofos I owned was the Nissan Terrano (Pathfinder) from 2001.
The old diesel versions were used to be public utility vehicles plowing the metro. Tamaraw FX was the king but now, it was replaced by Nissan Urvan and Toyota Hiace
@Venturi Atlantique yes even more durable. That 7k engine is OHV chevy style with low end torque. Thats from 70's toyota design but produce till 2004 so very reliable and strong but gas hog
@Venturi Atlantique In Indonesia that engine is cheap to fix, easy repair, many aftermarket spare parts.. it's carburetor engine not CPU electronic. So basically if got nuclear war, engine get start with no problems with EMP radiation after all.
Question: is it possible to import it here in California? (I was originally born in Caloocan and I had faint memories of my grandpa driving the Tamaraw and I would like to experience this nostalgic vehicle again)
Can't believe this thing finally appears in scotty's channel. Our family used to own one (kijang 2003 model) with automatic transmission. Owned for 4 years and only changed the ATF once (still shifts right though). Unfortunately we had to sell it due to financial need. Basic tech, boring model, minimum features, comfortable enough, and extremely reliable and utilitarian. Will buy it again someday when we got extra money
I figured that out when Toyota stopped importing those Mini Trucks from Japan..I owned one of the last ones..not to buy anymore. The one shown is at least as good if not better. The modern stuff, with the Sensors buried inside the engines, get costly as time goes on.
Hi Scotty ! We simply call this car a TANK in Indonesia, just because it's hella durable. It can go over 300.000 miles easily with extremely low maintanance.
my parents had the Tamaraw with 4K gas engine - 1998 Toyota Revo gas engine - 2007 Toyota Innova J 2.5L Diesel MT and now a 2011 toyota innova 2.5L Diesel E AT which has 275,000 kms and still going. This one swam through Typhoon Sendong flood in Iligan City and Typhoon Vinta in Cagayan de Oro. Never had engine issues except for the a/c and never overhauled. The tamarraw FX to innova line is a strong line for Toyota. I never really trust the new Avanza - Rush line. Weak gas engine and flimsy build. May the Innova line continue and keep the diesel too. Good job on the review sir and to you @ScottyKilmer

Making great cars that last "forever" isn't compatible with capitalism. It is compatible with winning market share for a brief time in history. Every successful car manufacturer will reach a point where quality becomes less important than profit!

I figured that out when Toyota stopped importing those Mini Trucks from Japan..I owned one of the last ones..not to buy anymore. The one shown is at least as good if not better. The modern stuff, with the Sensors buried inside the engines, get costly as time goes on.
I'm from the Philippines and I love this channel. Thanks, Scotty!
Nice feature on the Revo! My cousin has one, too.
This called Toyota Unser in Malaysia. Boy this car is tough as hell. So many are still on the road even after >20yrs
A car designed to handle the corruption and poverty of the rougher parts of this world
You just described indonesia 🇮🇩
@@ksam8987 And you guys know how much you love the Kijang
Describes Indonesia and Phillippines..
🇮🇩
Real pleasure listening to him speak. Good stuff Scotty!
All durability , powerfull ,handling, easy mantainenance, simplicity, last forever..
It Made in wakanda
Ah my childhood...
My dad still keep that car working and really great looking :)
Nice, hope my daughter feels the same way in years to come
Hi Scotty !
We simply call this car a TANK in Indonesia, just because it's hella durable. It can go over 300.000 miles easily with extremely low maintanance.
Kevin Julian , yes mantaf Kijang. Memang tiada duanya 🤣
*You spelt ‘94 Celica wrong in the title, Scottie!*
Just found your channel; I’ve been marathon watching your videos because they’re so good!
His 94 Celica is the cleanest best pleasure.
Amin G. Smith I’m so happy you get the reference 😂 TCAP for life
I tip my hat to you sir. A great video and description of your excellent car.
It’s sad we can’t get any in the United States
In a few years, you might be able to legally import one to the US. It's already legal to import to Canada.
You will never get quality cars because you are able to afford to change cars every 5 yrs you are rich. That’s what Gm and ford say .
Never understood why these cars are not available in USA. It's like the government want our cars to fail 🤣
@@Arz2003 It's because initially it might be because cars like these do not pass US standards.
Pitate buddy I’m to broke to afford cars ever 5 years that’s why I like Toyota’s
my parents had the Tamaraw with 4K gas engine - 1998 Toyota Revo gas engine - 2007 Toyota Innova J 2.5L Diesel MT and now a 2011 toyota innova 2.5L Diesel E AT which has 275,000 kms and still going.
Thank you so very much for that
Nice sir Scotty Kilmer!😊 I'm Filipino 🇵🇭and im amazed that you did review some car to our country.
Btw i hope you enjoy your day here God Bless!
I have enjoyed 11 years of days here so far my friend and hopefully 11 years more if God permits
Toyota revo
Currently dailying my 1990 Toyota Kijang, 440.000 kms and still counting. The thing is a tank.
He said some truth for sure. Truth corporations wont like.
Corporations have more than enough money not to care.
Because Toyota, that's why.
This is the best featured video yet, the time has flown by and I just really like his polite and detailed explanation of his ownership. Thumbs up, and have a good live in the Philippines. Great dude.
Wow. This guy should be narrating for a living. He's right about Toyota's golden age. We'll never give up our 97 Lexus LX450.
Making great cars that last "forever" isn't compatible with capitalism. It is compatible with winning market share for a brief time in history. Every successful car manufacturer will reach a point where quality becomes less important than profit!
I was only a month old when our family bought the Toyota Revo Sportsrunner (brandnew) now Im 19, it still runs flawlessly and I now drive it... truely it is built like a tank, recommended 101%
Damn good reviewer as to content style and attitude!!
I really enjoy the way he talks.. Very Humble and such a family guy..
Thanks so much, very kind comment
TOYOTA... simply the best!!!
Cheers from Argentina!
Hello Buenos Aires from the Philippines!
Been there in Southeast Asia, the roads are horrible! Almost as worse than New Jersey! Great video!
That's what I call pride of ownership! :-)
What a great speaking voice this owner of the Tamaraw has. He could be a great spokesman for Toyota! Did the chicken come with the vehicle? :-)
My wife did the voiceover shortly after killing the chicken
@@BritishBikerPhilippines Not only do you have very reliable transportation, but you sound well fed after killin' the chicken. I just had to say that, because I'm listening to Lightnin' Hopkins, the great American blues man as I type this, but you're clearly not singin' the blues with that Tamaraw. :-)
@@audiophileman7047 Good sounds never fade away brother!
@@BritishBikerPhilippines Yes, just like your Tamaraw. Hope you saw the TH-cam link I posted to Lightnin's "Big Black Cadillac Blues" song. That might bring back some memories of the '60's. It's a fun car themed blues tune. Cheers, man!
We have 1998 Mitsubishi L300 and still running fine, and last 2016 we bought 3rd Gen Mitsubishi Montero Sport and it's still running fine.
I had a 1989 4wd Delica and that engine was so durable the 4D56. Sadly discontinued now I hear
Mana suaranya KIJANG MANIA 🇲🇨🇲🇨🇲🇨 Kijang sampai tua. Salam dari Borneo, Kalimantan Tengah. Thx Scotty, i still use this car for going town to town. This engine are badass ✌️✌️✌️
Greatest car video ever. I want one. This guy could sell you the Brooklyn Bridge!
I already have a deposit on the bridge.
he should be a sales manager for FIAT
Great car and excellent presentation. I was glued to the screen the whole time. I'd love to own one!
This video gives me National Geographic vibes 😂
YEAH i fell the same
Because it is sitting on the grass Lands... Or a park or a golf course
"Here's a tammaraw in it's natural habitat, a very smart creature indeed"
As an owner of a 1998 2lt hilux i can say that he is correct.
340k
I could listen to this old man all day
My wife and daughter laugh when they read comments like this, I think they want me to shut up lolol
I really liked this guest, he seems like a cool old chap! Love that Toyota.
cool as a hot brick
So we're just going to ignore the 90s Hilux?
*Edit* - Glad the Hilux did get its shout, as well as Clarkson, Hammond, and May. Furthermore, The Grand Tour is STILL Top Gear as far as most of us are concerned.
As if I would forget any of the above!
And TGT has already been ended. The third iteration of the series was the grand finale
used Toyota prices just skyrocketed. :-)
I remember what happened 3 or 5 years back when an empty steel container toppled on a Metro Manila highway & it fell on top a Toyota Revo similar to the one on this video except for its color.
The Revo had no serious damage & its roof survived that impact. The tires did not even explode on impact! I also remember that demand of Revo at that time resurged because of what happened!
@@yengsabio5315 I believe it. Would be nice to find one...Unfortunately I live in the rust belt and even tho those years Toyotas etc were great the rust took them to the boneyard.
Back in 85, my dad own late 70 toyota kijang, he sold it in 95, and about two years ago the mydad met his car buyer, still being a real workhorse because the buyer owns a grocery store... I just drop my jaw.. that box with engine still run well, solid steel there I can tell
great video, a clear and honest description of a car. this guy speaks very clearly.
Love you Scotty! Love your winner! I also agree with, God Bless!
Amazing narration! I very much enjoyed your video Sir!
Thanks brother!
Fun fact, it was called toyota unser in Malaysia, so they were the 'unser' for many household in SEA
i ever have it, Krista diesel 2003. now i use Innova Reborn diesel 2018, newest generation of Kijang.. but i often use his smaller brother everywhere, avanza 2017.. i just have a habit to sell my car every reach 100K Km, that is why i don't often use my innova for daily use...
I Taiwan, 5 seater Toyota Zace Surf (Revo) used to be a business vehicle, Professional mourner’s vehicle, alot of cargo to put on 3rd row, etc...
You Sold me on The Solid Steel Bumpers..What A Magnificent Beast She Is.
David Attenborough hosts Asian Top Gear. 😂😂😂
Scotty: the best Toyota ever made?
Me: Supra
Scotty: all of them
For real!
Yeah you're right
For me its the kijang grand extra
That thing just won't die
In Malaysia we call it "Toyota Unser", I bought mine in 2003, still own it, runs very well. Today my son is driving it. I absolutely love it when he said it does not feels nor looks like any other old junk from 2003.

Wow the Tamaraw FX! A very popular AUV back then here in the Philippines.
All your Subs are Lusting after this Hooptie now! Hes probably getting Offers as we speak! LOL. Kilmer....You're The Man!!!
we had one, and it's still alive, the diesel pusher is a monster! 8 seats occupied and towing 600kg, and it pulled everything uphill.
