In a world full of fuller louder voices, she made a difference with her delicacy, beautiful phrasing, vocal fluency (both ease and clarity on every note she'd sing). On a personal note, the most beautiful timbre of all, delivered with finesse and pose. My absolute favourite.
@Barone Vitellio Scarpia People that really don't know about Classical Voices always say that Callas is the best jajajajajajaja, please listening more Soprano's voices, there are many Sopranos with better Voice Quality than Callas. Many Opera experts have coincided that Callas had an ugly, dark and metallic voice, her high notes are so bothering. it seems you don't know Norman, Price, Tebaldi, Freni, Peters, Gruberova, Milanov, Dessay, Popp, Serra, Moffo, etc, etc, these were really beautiful voices!. Callas maybe could be the best actress but the best singer, NEVER! ...
@Barone Vitellio Scarpia OMG!... How you dare! .. Edita is considered one of the best Queens of the Night and Coloratura Soprano ever, she continued singing until she had 70 years old and Callas lost her voice at the age of 50 :D ! ... Price, Norman, woofy? .. Price was one of the best Aidas! .. Norman was one of the best Wagnerian's! ...No, no!, now I can understand why you like the ugly voice of Callas. Yes, Callas had a powerful voice but horrible color! ...
@Barone Vitellio Scarpia nop, the best Queens of the Night are Luciana Serra and Diana Damrau, The best Aida is Price, Kirsten Flagstad yes could be but Norman was absolutely stunning as Wagnerian. Yes, Callas lost her ugly voice when she was 50 and for that reason she was depressed and died at 54. Callas's Life always was controversial, polemical, scandalous, and her voice showed her sadness. Callas never gonna be the best, NEVER!.
Adrian Vargas yes, I was just thinking the same. I’m new to opera. I’ve been spending days listening to versions of this beautiful piece. I think that this is the first one that truly reflects the story and I can easily imagine that this is the voice of the young girl singing to her father. She sings beautifully and simply - without trying to convince people that she can.
It’s only watching her live that I think people have issues because of that weird thing with her jaw that she does on the really high notes, looks like she’s sticking her tongue through the bottom lip and curling her lip in. Lovely voice otherwise honestly just looks annoying live
@@rubi588 HI: Opera singers are trained, and they know how to use the instrument they have, that is their mouth and throat and all to create beautiful sounds. It is not something to say that looks odd. she is not speaking, but singing. That is how they use their instrument, which is God Given. If you look at other professionally trained singers, you will note that they have similar traits. It is what they do and it may look strange, but they are trained.
This is a spectacular tragedy not to hear Kathleen Battle singing like an angel. Her rendition brings tears to my eyes it is so beautifully expressed with power and virtuosity. Bravo!
Tender, intimate "O mio babbino caro." Loving and caressing. It's a different expression from most other sopranos' interpretation. but just as beautiful and impressive. In her time she was a magnificent singer and I still like her very much.
One of the best renditions that I've heard of O mio babbino Caro! Battle's voice is a bit lighter than I'm used to hearing for this aria, but she still sounds amazing and angelic!
All sorts of things can be said of Battle, - here's mine. The sweetest voice to come out of the USA (where God knows a sweet voice is needed) in these terrible times. If my comment doesnt show, I dont care, - my middle name is Ucalegon!
@@photo161 you can interpret it that way or let it be sincere. Personally I think the sincere choice is more surprising and touching in this otherwise absolutely ridiculous and piece of comedic music theater, I mean opera. =)
The butterfly that comes in your garden, and the Bee, they come to give you a Grace song and rejoice in excellence henceforth have come from Kathleen Battle, lest we not lose our ability to recognize that. Such a gif
Aside from her typically sublime performance I noted that Ms. Battle curtsied when she took the stage, which I found to be very charming. That, her impeccable carriage, and her elegant attire all exuded class. How many female performers still do that in the world of classical music? By way of contrast, Yuja Wang often appears onstage dressed like a performer in a Las Vegas lounge act, which does a disservice to the music that she plays, the composer, the audience and, most of all, herself.
Her voice is heavenly! I never heard her sing this before; my favorite rendition was sung by Kiri Te Kanawa but I think Kathleen Battle's is just as amazing!

My absolute favourite.
I agree. During my soprano studies, she was my favorite
I agree completely! I discover this wonderfull voice now! That voice! Marvelous voice!
One of the most beautiful voices ever.
To me, she is the greatest soprano of all time. Nobody touched my heart as strong.
@Barone Vitellio Scarpia what a stupid comment
@Barone Vitellio Scarpia Callas had a horrible voice, so dark, so metallic, hard to bear.

Has there ever been a more gorgeous voice? I can't think of one. I saw her live in recital, and she did not disappoint.
Pure Beauty in every sense...A Gift From The Creator....
Her voice has such a pretty sound. I never get tired of listening to her. Thank you Kathleen for blessing us with your voice.
The best interpretation of this masterpiece. She knows what she is saying, she feels every single word and note, and she plays the character.

So pure and light yet powerful at the same time, perfection in the voice with a gorgeous face
At my daughter's wedding, I had this played when we did the Father and Daughter dance. It will always be a special song for me.
To say that this is beautiful would be an understatement. It's more than divine.
How can you not enjoy Kathleen's amazing voice?
It’s only watching her live that I think people have issues because of that weird thing with her jaw that she does on the really high notes, looks like she’s sticking her tongue through the bottom lip and curling her lip in. Lovely voice otherwise honestly just looks annoying live

She has a beautiful and soft voice. Amazing.
Kathleen enters and departs the stage like Princess, so Regal! And what a voice, sorry I didn't get a chance to chat to her.
When one talks perfection at singing, she always arises. A great Diva. Beautiful and loving voice.
She's so gorgeous and talented love her
Wonderful, I am in awe. Wish I could have been there.
Stunningly beautiful! Fantastic covering of the voice-so FULL!
This is a spectacular tragedy not to hear Kathleen Battle singing like an angel. Her rendition brings tears to my eyes it is so beautifully expressed with power and virtuosity. Bravo!
I got to see her sing it live
Brava! Diva Kathleen!
There's something vulnerable to sopranos' voices, they seem like fragile beings, and Kathleen's voice gets to me on such an emotional level.
Extraordinary - even Maestro Dutoit is in total awe......
outstanding very powerful and soft and the same time
PERFECTION!!!
Superb! Such a pure, clear voice. I am awed!
Her voice should be heard amongst the galaxies and stars as a welcome to Mother Earth
This is my fave rendition
Effortless and simply celestial! Brava, Kathy!!!
Just beautiful I love this so much
By far the best I have heard here on
Sheer clarity and pure beauty. What a gift
I love Kathleen Battle. Precision and excellence.
She is wonderful. Thank you for posting.
gorgeous performance

MAGNIFICENT!!!
Amazing !!!
The best soprano of our time...omg😢 beautiful voice...
So beautiful.
Brilliant !
Touched my heart😢😭
Now that is a wonderful voice.....
One of the best renditions that I've heard of O mio babbino Caro! Battle's voice is a bit lighter than I'm used to hearing for this aria, but she still sounds amazing and angelic!
That's the thing. The aria is supposed to be light, as it is sung by a teenaged girl.
Magnificent
So pure and lovely
Simply beautiful...
Unbelievable beautiful-especially the covering of her voice!
I feel this performance truly captures a teenage girl’s drama and emotions. Brava!

Can't top the previous comments. Glorious!

OMGOODNESS.....THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL!
Beautiful voice.
Thank you so much!
Wow!!! Angelic voice!
True talent, she has a beautiful voice.
My gosh that was so beautiful--so much like a little girl talking to her daddy.
drewqq yes she does the little girl voice a lot
exactly, instead of a very canny and determined young woman who knows exactly how to get what she wants from her doting father...
eoselan7 good point

So beautiful...
i even love her choice of dress and colours
i saw her front row at a recital with piano in 1990. best concert i've ever seen
Wonderful voice...
Uau...
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
She is more beautiful today, with a voice to match, if either can be possible. I will love both, forever.
Kathleen Battle singing "O Mio Babbino caro" with the Montreal Symphony is my favorite rendition of the song
sweetest voice
yes, but only rarely is a character in opera "sweet"...
I think she's one of the greatest soprano's ever.
magnificent
Exquisite!
those amazing interval jumps no one like kathleen . singers of this calibre missing today
Anne Fridal h

Went to "like"... saw that i already HAVE!
I guess that equals "love"?
Her voice is heavenly! I never heard her sing this before; my favorite rendition was sung by Kiri Te Kanawa but I think Kathleen Battle's is just as amazing!
That eyebrow raise. Gets the job done every time.
Absolutely beautiful. ..wow...
es maravillosa la interpretacion de Kathleen Battle, una voz priviligiada.
