Haha thanks! I had a heads-up from someone who said, "Wear your Ew, David shirt in the next episode. I can't tell you why because spoilers, but just do it." lol. Turned out to be good advice.
I haven't played the game and I knew nothing going into this show. But I think it's interesting how Kathleen earlier in the season and the guy talking to the pastor in this episode both said something about how maybe kids are supposed to die. Meanwhile Joel is doing everything in this power to keep her alive, and obviously now is seeing her as a daughter figure. And honestly the puppy made my day!
Yeah, that's a really great point about Kathleen's comments and David's. Interesting. I don't know if it's coincidence or they're headed somewhere even darker with that, but I hope not! Aww thanks for the sweet words about puppy lol. She just got her little silver tag with her name on it, and she's still getting used to navigating it around the food/water bowls haha
On rewatch this episodes beginning changes so much with context. Especially when David tells James that he's not talking in code about the medicine, then going back and re hearing David and James talk before that point of the show.
The lines David says about the fungus ties into a key theme in the series: what is the difference between something like the fungus that is just doing what it needs to to grow and survive, and humans doing what they need to to grow and survive? What makes us different? What gives human life meaning beyond mere breeding and survival?
These questions and thought experiments are always so intriguing. We as humans are really good at separating ourselves and placing ourself above all other life. I think what makes us different is our capability to realize these moral dilemmas and seek the best path. The trouble is that the best path is never the easiest. Self preservation always wins, but, do these fungi so carelessly and willingly destroy their own kind like humans? If not, does that make them morally superior?
Not at all, Robert! I appreciate the info. It's funny because I have seen that actor in photos when I google "Joel Last of Us" to make my video thumbnails, and I STILL didn't recognize him! That must have been an interesting experience for him.
David! I enjoy your videos. Your smile and reflections are warm and welcoming -- super important when watching a show like this "together." You notice all the important emotional details of these incredible actors. And for the most part I don't think I've seen you celebrate the gruesome stuff -- just appreciated how intense it was and the character's energy. Wishing your channel lots of success.
Awww thank you SO MUCH @Garden Gnome! You totally made my day with your comment. I really appreciate the kind words. I hope that you have a great week ahead :)
I haven’t played the game, but I feel like Ellie has always remained true to herself-resilient, and strong. Physically and psychologically she is certainly broken, but I found it nothing but holding on to her own dignity, her own goals, and that something she has to live for in the face of pure evil and fear. She came out of it, and definitely scarred, but she never wasn’t herself. Cheers, Spoonie :)
That almost felt like a foreboding sign, you seein' that ''false prophet'' as Vincent Van Gogh (actually I thought it was Spike Jonze lol), and then later on that sliced ear popped up lol. Btw, I almost thought it was Marc, ticking on a glass, to let you know (let's say) it is dinner time hahahaha
Spike Jonze! haha. Now that's all I can see. And yes, that totally sounds like Marc. Except "it's dinner time" meaning "feed me", not as in "I made dinner." lol
Hahaha girrrl, let me tell you a story related to this that you weren't looking for.. So on Disney+ there is a Frozen-themed fireplace video that you can have on in the background. It's literally just a cartoon version of those fireplace videos that you can find on Netflix, etc, that run for hours and have the sounds of a crackling fire. Anyway, in this one, however, periodically Olaf will run through and giggle. Well I was not prepared for that, and so when I am in my kitchen at 1am eating Doritos (like we all do) and I hear someone giggle in the other room, scared the s*** out of me.
They are in Colorado now and Utah is the next state over where the fireflies went. It's a rough trip through the Rocky Mountains to the Salt Lake area but they are still on their way.
Hey Gail!! Ahhh so SLC is the next stop? I haven't watched the finale preview yet- trying to go in as green as possible- but I am allowing for any kind of twist or turn.
and that was joel at like 15% capacity! when he's all healed up he'll be an absolute menace. no wonder marlene thought he was the man for the job if that's what he's capable of.
I know a lot of game players are upset there aren't any infected but the thing that always was in the back of my mind while playing the game was: why are there infected in subzero temperatures? To me it actually makes more sense to focus on the human monsters while the show is in the winter portion of the game.
Yes, that is a GREAT point. Every time I have wanted to complain about that either directly in the videos or in the comments, that occurs to me. Frozen temps = not great growth conditions. Thanks, @T Bear-Aspirin!
Oh yeah?? That's awesome! I've loved the amazing set design in this series so far. They really have done a great job. And that's awesome that your friend gets the bragging rights on the house!
😂😂😂 so now I’m traumatized… the puppers eating or drinking sounded like the people eating @ Todd’s steakhouse, I don’t know should we call someone. D A V I D!!!!!! 😂😢😊😂😂
This episode was probably the most faithful to the game for sure. So many scenes were nearly pulled straight out of it. They did a fantastic job as usual. I'm really curious if they will wrap this season up exactly where the game ends. I kind of hope not since I want more of it before they get there.
Thanks, David! I always appreciate hearing your thoughts. This episode was crazy, and even though this thread is not the place for it, I just finished the finale last night! Editing that video now..
Okay David, now is the time to say it, "We've got the meats." You got any Horsey sauce to go with this? How about A1? Now seating Donner Party, table for 45. As the Master of the House sings in "Les Mis": " Kidney of a horse, Liver of a cat, Filling up the sausages with this and that." I'll have the butt steak! 🤪
I love how she clears the guns but sits with her back to the door. I've always wondered what it would be like to start a cult, not a cannibal cult (at least not at first). TV/movies and real life make it seem like a walk in the park, easy living. Joel makes Mando look like a b@#$&. "It's OK, I believe him," badass line. Who wouldn't be enamored with Balla Ramsey. "Baby Girl." The way their relationship has developed is golden. PUPPY! Discord wants a stream dedicated to the puppers.
I LOVED "It's ok, I believe him." lol. Your thoughts on the ease of creating a cult immediately conjured up a video starring Larry David called, "So You Wanna Start a Cult? A How-to Guide to Take You from a Follower to a Following in 30 Days or Less" YES to the Discord puppy stream lol
@Kristian Berg I still wouldn't have sat in the middle. I know it was cold, but I would probably have stayed in the treeline. I'm not really going to fault her, she has no real tactical training and didn't even have the advantage of growing up with movies or books that include that kinds thing.

Talk about a crazy episode, I started thinking they were going to be religious nuts, then they seemed reasonable until he mentioned the guy Joel killed, I totally didn't see the cannibal thing coming, much less the Cartman move of feeding kids their parents. You can tell Joel was an 80s kid and played a lot of NES to break open the wall and find a whole turkey to regain some of his health.
14:49 Other people have mentioned the lack of infected lately. I'm fine with it since I'd just have to close my eyes during those scenes anyway. And I never played the game.
Big Easter Egg. Ellie kills Joel. David's right hand man is Troy Baker who was the voice and motion capture actor for Joel in the game. So when Bella cleavered Troy, Ellie killed Joel.
Haha that's pretty interesting, actually. To me it's a neat little tidbit, but to game fans, I'm sure that was an amazing turn of characters. And a fun experience for the actor.
