As a car detailing fan, I'll advice you to get a real leather cleaner and conditioner. Dish soap is highly alkaline and it dries the leather so much to cause cracks. After cleaning with a brush and wipe off with a damp microfiber cloth to remove any excess, you can apply a leather sealant. This works like a car wax for leather, dirt won't even stick to your shoes, even water will beed.
One problem with that Luca. These are not made from leather. I'd stick to car detailing. As a woodworker, I find sandpaper works best to get things flat and smooth. I advise you to try it on your car paint 😂 fool
I love the music... and by the way sometimes a fat-soluble dish soap even cleans perfect a dirty bike, drivetrain, ... I always find useful advices in your videos.
Only you can make something so mundane as cleaning shoes seem engaging to the point of watching the whole thing. And I was actually waiting for you to show up in person!
If you touch up your shoes with paint don't forget to add a finisher. I highly recommend using liquid kicks. I, coincidentally, just did a wee video of a ketchup test of some newly customized Giro Empire shoes earlier today. Love your videos mate👍
@@LucaBonato those shoes are not leather. Most cycling shoes aren't. Definitely shouldn't use anything except mild soap or specialty leather cleaner on leather uppers. For smooth plastic like these Shimano shoes, Mr. Clean works great!
Hello RideOfJapan!(: I love your cleaning videos and this may not really be related to cleaning shoes, but will wanna know if you have any tips on cleaning tan walls on road tyres?
The trick is the same as with shoes, clean them often and you don't need to do anything special ;) I just use a soapy water and a brush and go over the tires every time I wash the bike. However, keeping real tan-walled cotton casing is a loosing battle then will get discolored sooner or later. The recent crop of "tan" or "transparent" sidewall type tires (Schwalbe, Conti etc) are a bit easier to keep clean in my experiance compared to something like the Challange open tubular-type tires
Have you tried those Silca wipes? I got one included in the box when I bought my Hirobel clamp. I tried it on the white bar tape on my 3T Exploro, and it definitely was a lot less white before I used it. Now I just need to figure out if someone sells them in Europe, or if I need to order from Silcas web site, shipping from the US is such a nightmare these days...
Plastic shoes does clean easy yes, I do enjoy spending quality time with my leather Lakes, they smell much better as well ;) TH-cam knows how to take care of leather shoes, even how to make them rain resistant.
I’m worried they will smell if they get wet? can I dry them in an airing cupboard as I’m worried direct heat from a hair dryer will distort them? And do you think baby shampoo could be better than dishwashing liquid - not quite as abrasive? Great video!
When my mtb shoes get really muddy I throw them in the washing machine. It beats them up more than hand washing but is the only way I've found to actually get all the dirt out.
Storage on a shoe tree, with some small silicone bag inside. Even if it is synthetic, any remaining wet can cause a deformation on the upper part. Always remove the dirt from the head of the cleat screw.
Thank-you for the ”Bonsai" link!!! BTW: where did you get your sweatshirt with the "F+U" cat design?(absolutely brilliant!!!)... However, my wife has given up hope finding one as she has searched everywhere in Greater Tokyo to no avail. : ( Keep the Great Videos coming!! (Your humour & earnestness is top tier!)
can't believe I spent 7 and half minutes watching someone else cleaning his shoes 😅 great tips except for the alcohol tissue. Not sure if that's a thing to do because most of the wet tissue from 7/11 have a great portion of isopropyl alcohol.
@@ridesofjapan and I had to resort to stuffing my washed shoes with newspaper yesterday. You truly are living in the future, by more than 12 times zones at least
Man, that’s keeping them spiffy. I only clean mine when they get vomit or the occasional urine splash on them. Because you did not cover the removal of these types of contaminants I may need to reevaluate my riding habits....
My feet smell like a bed of roses so can’t relate ;) But i would try and make sure they are always dry... leaving sweaty damp shoes in a dark closet is not the best thing for smell I imagine.
Go to some climbing center and ask them to ionize the shoes, they do that all the time to the climbing shoes. Always use drier if you have. Boot bananas (or some DIY equivalent) are nice too. The salt like cat sand in socks also works.
So now I feel bad about my white road shoes that I didn’t clean for maybe since I bought them over a year ago 🤔 Thanks got that I bought some black MTB shoes 😬
Short but sweet - and as classy as ever.
It's always nice to see someone, who is even crazier than myself. I'm looking forward to every new video! 😉👍

Only you can make cleaning cycling shoes a must watch video! Excellent quality again, thanks but I wear black shoes to avoid cleaning.👍
Did I just spend 7 mins of my life watching someone clean his cycling shoes?
I made it 1:55. As a Gravel cyclists, I'd rather just ride my bike with dirty shoes. ;) Peace!
@@Rambl-n_Man I felt the same
perfect timing with this video, after yesterday's ride i was thinking it was finally time to clean my shoes 😅
satisfying, succinct, helpful. In other words, a typical RoJ video
Very useful - thank you. I especially like your shoe dryer - ordered the Iris Ohyama 760W unit from Amazon Japan!
Cleaning bikes and bike stuff is basically therapy.
that guy is a total gear head. he really loves his gear deep from the heart... :-)

The only dirt I saw was on my screen. ^^ Loving your videos.
Thank you for the ASMR
Great tips! Will clean my own shoes now.
Also a nice throwback with just the music. ;) But I appreciated that you popped up in the ending.
Glad that this vid puts my own OCD in some proper perspective ;-)
Pure chillout bliss
What a throwback.
I can’t believe I just watched you cleaning your shoes and thoroughly enjoyed it!!!!😂
all your 'filthy' examples are super clean in my terms :)
Blimey you gave those shoes a good hard scrub, I thought the pattern was going to come off 😂
well thats one way of getting rid of those grams, no free loading dirt :)
What about the paint on the toe? Must have added loads of weight to the shoe?
I also had a scar on my white shoe. I just used latex paint, the stuff you do the walls with. Worked perfectly.
Only you can make something so mundane as cleaning shoes seem engaging to the point of watching the whole thing. And I was actually waiting for you to show up in person!
Nothing like a good carbon-fiber towel to make everything look nice!
Keep you kicks clean, and your heart's pristine!
Sorted👍

The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser cleaning sponge does miraculous things for shoes with this kind of finish... Even removes the stubborn scuffs...
It actually removes part of the leather too

Neat freak! Hahaha! Love it!
You need crep protection spray! I 100% recommend it. give your shoes a quick spray once a week, very good product but might add 0.1 grams
Happy Feet! 😀
that air dryer is cool
How bad is the wear on the soles of the RX8s? I don't know if I should buy them for gravel biking and bikepacking, they seem pretty fragile.
TEAM DREAM! I'm wearing the same sweatshirt right now. :)

This is why i love my black Specialized mtb shoes, i just get a wet micro fiber tissue and wipe the shoes with and they look clean ! :D

An occasional cleat lube ? I like to use a car vinyl cleaner on the black bottoms of my shoes (them silver ones) to bring that area up :)
How can I get that Bonsai cap? I have checked several sites and didn't find any source. Great video as usual.
