Over here, winter can get terribly cold, (-40C) so the only way to have a reliable water source is to have heated water bowls. It's an investment ($50 a bowl) but has been amazing for us this far! We just have to keep an eye on the water when it gets colder than -20C just because there are limitations to those bowls compared to arctic cold temps, but they make life easier 97% of the winter for sure!
We too build our own nesting boxes amd the best designs we could find had 1/4" mesh bottoms and a lip on the front as a kit squeegee lip on the top of the front to help keep them inside the nesting box. Awesome job!
How did you get your rabbits to be so gentle and calm. If I stuck my hand in the cage when they are mating I would probably get bit. I struggle with them scratching me when I try and move them or handle them. I interacted with them a lot when they were small but still they are difficult. Maybe it is the breed. Mine are mixed breeds except for 1 and she is very shy. I'm impressed with the way you take care of your rabbits.
Thank you! The silver Fox breed is very docile and some shy. I think it’s just the breed. I have had Rex rabbits in the past that have not been very nice.
@rabbitathomestead I was wondering if the barrels just have a filter and collect directly into barrel or connected to down spouts from the roof. Thank you!
@@julieb2605 no filter. We have the barrels positioned to collect water from two creases in our roof. A lot of water drains off the roof in those spots. I use the water for gardening and I give it to my rabbits. When I give it to the rabbits, I put apple cider vinegar in their water with it.
If you're thinking about raising rabbits and that's how you feel, I recommend researching colony style for raising them. You will probably like that better.
When you breed rabbits you are looking for what they call a "fall off". It's when the buck successfully breeds with the doe and falls off dramatically. I have videos that show what I'm talking about. 🐇
It is simple. Just feed from pellets let's you butcher a month sooner and gives animals more fat witch is what the femal needs for raising young. They eat like a horse in nature. Anything you feed to your horse you can feed to a rabbit. The main difference is most not have land to grow hay grains and such.
You can most certainly supplement most of a rabbit's diet with foraging. However, it'll likely result in lower weights, slower growth, and higher mortality due to unbalanced nutrition and risk of disease from wild rabbits. With meat rabbits, the goal is to get to slaughter weight quickly, and the rabbit food companies have streamlined that process quite nicely. Rabbits are absolutely a great meat animal to have in a tough spot, though!
Yes but it highlights the negative just as much. This is where culling and selective breeding are key. Most fail because they emotionally can cull and are overrun.
Your set up is lovely you explain everything clearly and your rabbits all look so healthy one of the best rabbit vlogs I have seen all the best! 👌🏻
Wow I appreciate that, thank you so much!

If u cut a hole in the wire your feed container can sit on the outside so you can feed without opening the cage
Yeah, I have seen people do that. I don't like it tho. I explain why in my everything you need to raise rabbits video. Thanks!
Thanks for your quick reply...God Bless
Good info and I like your hutch setup!
I think your rabbits and family is beautiful!
How sweet of you to say. Thank you 💜
Great video! I like the relaxed way you explain things.
Thank you!

At tractor supply they only had chicken boxes so we covered up the hole with cardboard. Works for us really well
Stormy is so cute! 🥰
ceramic dog bowls from the dollar store or Amazon are great
Same bowls I use so they can't turn it over
I like your channel 👍
Thank you!
Bună,sunt din România, știu puțină engleză, aveți un videoclip bun, very nice channel!
Thank you!
Nice sized doors
Where did you get the rabbit house from?
can you ask what size the box? thanks
You should put the box for the mamas at 27 -28 day because they would probably eat it or use it as a litter
They don't use it as litter. And I make sure they have plenty of hay everyday. Day 25 works for me.
Does the bottom and front of the hutch stay open in winter?

One of my bucks bites me and the other doesn’t care lol
This morning my doe bite me she always love to attack when she's starving
Hi. Good videos thank you. Can I ask you how much meat do you have from these monthly?
I am honestly not sure, I process every 3 months tho.
New to your channel. Great content. When you switch to stainless steel for water what size do you use?
Thank you! The bowls are 16 oz. They are on Amazon. :)
@@thestonehearthfarmhouse thank you!

Can you please explain your rain water catch system in a video?
Sure, when it gets nicer out I will mention it. It's not much, just barrels that collect water from the roof when it rains. :)

A bit of salt in the water might stop them freezing?
do you have a link to the feeder and waterer?
NicE ❤🥰😍🤩❤
How much apple cider vinegar do you ad to their water?
Just a tablespoon per gallon of water.
為什麼不放腳踏墊? 他們的腳會痛, 他們的腳會不舒服.
In the video it is clear that I give my rabbits plywood mats plus they all have nestboxes to sleep in during winter months.
That wires is made specifically for rabbits. It's the best and safest thing for them. It certainly does not hurt their feet.
What kind of rabbits are those
Silver Fox rabbits
Wait a minute, that looks like it worked.
Look at the way his ass was shaking.
She needs to lift her rear end to give him access. When he gets access and finishes the job, he will spasm and fall over. It's called a fall off.

I researched and understood that after seeing your video.
So basically, she shut the door on him?
Damn ‼️
❤w😮w❤
Do they ever get to run around? I don't think I could keep rabbits in small cages like that.

I don't get it? I just saw you breed her twice? How do you know that wasn't successful?

What did people feed rabbits before pellets and corporations existed? Surely it’s simple.

Parents and children share more common DNA than siblings. Breeding siblings is totally ok to enhance certain desirable traits.
