Side note.... just watch the video for Same Song which Tupac does the final verse (which I knew) but the Cameos of Eazy E and Dr Dre together threw me for a bit. Probably the last thing they did together.

Shock G was the leader of DU. He put on a fake nose and dressed crazy and made his voice nasally and became an alter ego Humpty, there’s actually a lot of DU songs with ‘both’ rappers in it, but it’s him. DU is awesome 🔥 peep Freaks of the Industry, Same Song, The Danger Zone, Return of the Crazy One 👍

Yes. Digital Underground was hip hop’s version of George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic. The character Humpty Hump was inspired by “Sir Nose D’Voidoffunk” which was a character in one of Parliament Funkadelic’s songs.

The nose he's wearing is based off of one of the Marx brothers, comedian/actor Groucho Marx from early 1900's -1970s. It's been used in film, looney tones,tv, spoofs, n comedy for decades. The thick bushy eyebrows, glasses, and nose and bushy mustache are all one piece.
I was a little girl when this was out, but it was a big controversy, at least in my area of the south. Ppl were up in arms about grab em in the biscuit line, getting busy in burger King bathroom, n some other foolishness. This is the most censored I have ever heard it tho. Meanwhile, rock bands were singing about picking up teen catholic school girls skipping school that they picked up n took riding in their convertibles with no objection.

Back in the 1970s, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic played FUNK music. Rick James was Funk. Early Prince was funk also.
Digital Underground was a hip hop version of Parliament Funkadelic. The lead rapper is Shock G. He wore a fake nose in this video and his character was named “Humpty Hump”. It was inspired by “Sir Nose D’Voidoffunk” which was a character in one of George Clinton’s songs.

Shock G was the lead man in Digital Underground. Humpty Hump was his alter ego.. As their hype grew he'd mess with the crowd more, by having his twin brother stand in as him, while he perform as Humpty. Seeing them both on the stage together added to the lure that they were 2 different people. The fake nose and glasses came together. It was from the comedian Groucho Marx from back in the 40"s and 50's

Love your review. Auntie is checking in. Let me explain why the folks are so hyped in the video. Before the internet and cell phones, our generation focused on going out to clubs and dancing. We had dance crews, etc and we loved to see battles. What is better than battle, someone introducing a new dance, that can be the Dougie, the Womp, the Bart Simpson, the Butterfly etc.... DU was huge, and this went on to be 1# on the Hood charts. Please keep in mind the year is 1990, and music genres were still not integrated yet, except for mainstream pop. Look up the Butt by EU. This is a perfect example of a dance that went to #1 on the Black R and B charts that Most of America will not know about. Peace and Love.. Auntie CC

This is another great rap group made it big but then he became a raging alcoholic Humpty. Rest in peace that's one song that will never die the Humpty dance it started a lot of other dances and know that's not his real nose it's just a cap that he wears and the fuzzy hat with the glasses was his trademark.
