During the same era, a rap group that was similar (In that they too had a unique sound that blends jazz/rap/spoken). Digable Planets...you should give them a listen. "Where I'm From", and "Cool Like That" are two songs that were more commercially popular.

Man, I loved this song back in the day, such a fun song. Plus got to give a shout-out to Bootsy Collins, he was the guitar guy you would see and the rapper was Q-Tip.
