    What a treat to be taken on this beautiful tour. Thank you, Paul! I started planting David Austin roses in my zone 5a garden a couple of years ago. Having good luck with the shrub roses. Planted a rambling and a climbing rose this spring. I’m a bit nervous as to how they’ll do since I suspect the roots will survive but everything above ground will die each winter. I hope you’ll take us on more tours. I’m especially grateful for the specific plant information in your video 🙏🏻

      I started two years ago in zone 6b. Our winters are not as they used to be, so all the five DA have survived until today. At present the problem is lack of water, it hasn't rained for two weeks and the temperature is above 30 degrees Celsius every day. It's going to be 36 on Thursday.

      How nice getting these big-name roses. Many of the names are new to me.
      As soon as I saw ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’ I immediately thought of the Moody Blues and Justin Haywood - until the 60s part of my brain got into gear and recalled Procol Harum. I was trying to remember the lyrics as well! How can we forget “We skipped the light fandango”.

    How lovely thank you Paul for your superb tour, everything looking splendid in the sunshine, I'm going next week. Yes Harlow Carr is in Harrogate I used to live around the corner from there :) I bought Ghislaine de Féligonde from Albrighton several years ago, she's a fabulous repeat rambler not too vigorous for a pergola and has a wonderful fragrance and no thorns! which is a welcome bonus. Of course when we moved at the end of last year she had to come with us.

      So interesting you have a repeat flowering rambler - can you tell me about Ghislaine de Féligonde. Does it repeat flower in flushes? How often? Do you deadhead then it repeat flowers?

      @soulgirlktf 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paultsworld Hi Paul, yes it repeats throughout the season I find it becomes more pink toned as the season progresses and fades to a soft blush while earlier in the season it's mostly apricot and peach tones that fade through lemon to the palest creamy white. It's very neat in it's habit and easy to deadhead as the blooms are dainty and tightly held they stay put until you nip them off no mess at all and because it's thornless it's user friendly too! I just nip them off as they fade and more and more buds follow behind it's quite profuse. It really is a lovely rambler and has a sweet honey/myrrh fragrance.

      @@paultsworld Oh fab I hope you do, no thorns is a winner I have been 'bitten' several times already this season from my roses and I am careful! She is easy to control as she is short - some ramblers can really get away. I do like climbers but they drop petals everywhere especially at the moment we've had some windy and wet days - there is something so very appealing about the dainty ramblers that hold on to their clusters no matter the weather, I was out early this morning picking up petals and there was Ghislaine just nodding at me not one petal dropped just a couple of dead-ish heads to nip off 😊

    Thank you for such an informative video. I've never had the opportunity to visit the place, anyway, I wouldn't have been able to travel overseas with a potted rose :-) As I mentioned in my recent video, I'm already a bit plant-potty ;-) The roses look beautiful, the garden, well, it is a question of taste, I suppose. It reminds me of the rosarium in Sangerhausen, but the German rosarium seems to be much, much bigger. I really love the rose called Desdemona, fortunately, I can buy it where I live. I must say I'm a little surprised at the fact that the nursery sells roses which haven't been bred by them e.g. Iceberg (Kordes), New Dawn (Somerset Rose Nursery). I used to think they only sell DA roses.

    Good Morning Paul, what a fabulous day out you have had. I knew English nurseries would be amazing. Someone on instagram had a wonderful photo of a D A Benjamin Britten. Much to my surprise we can get it here, BUT it was sold out 2022!! 30 pounds sounded a bit expensive at first but they are large and very established. I paid 10 pounds for a pencil sized rose online a couple of years ago. I so want to visit England and visit the manor gardens and go to some plant nurseries.. May be next year. Will be in Denmark in 4 weeks and we visit Egeskov Slot every time. It has a lovely rose garden. So I will get a mini dose of stately garden, (assuming the flights are not cancelled and that our baggage arrives. Absolute chaos, I hear.) Keep enjoying that marvellous weather you are having.

      Morning Margaret. Is your 'pencil sized rose' doing well now it's a bit older?
      Have a nice time in Denmark, I did a tour of the area a few years ago, photographing many of the slots - including Egeskov. Such perfect castles and buildings - I loved it there. I drove so my luggage was safely in the boot - I'm my own baggage handler lol.

      @margaretmichelsen766 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bought 12 Addictive Lure in the pencil size. They have grown well beyond the pencil stature, they will spring for their third year with me. They do very well for the first half of the season then they look dreadful. I have to be better with feed and drink for them, I think. We leave for Portugal on 4th July, travel through France and on to DK via a Paris flight, away one month. So I will not see your videos until August. I like your solution to baggage handling!! I wish I could do that! : ) Qantas goes to Heathrow b4 Lisbon...ggrrrrroooooaaannnn I would sooner pass through Siberia.

    • @paultsworld
      @paultsworld  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think zone 3 is right on the edge but there are plenty of people in Central Europe with really severe Winters who grow roses - however I believe they do put some good protection over them.
      Of course choose one of the hardiest roses and also maybe put it close to the house so it gets some protection and warmth. Or how about a rose in a pot that can then be moved somewhere protected in the Winter. Roses can look lovely in pots and there are plenty that are bred to be suitable for pots.

      As I showed in the video they do use nematodes. I don’t know what other methods they use. Lice isn’t a problem here.
