12 Very Different English Gardens - May 2022

- I take you on a tour of 12 beautiful English gardens. The gardens are located in the picturesque English village of Caldy on the Wirral Peninsula alongside the River Dee Estuary in the North West of England.
The gardens are open to the public for one day each year. This year the open gardens was held on Sunday 22nd May 2022 as part of the 'Caldy Open Gardens' in support of the chosen charity 'Koala North West'. England.
The natural stone in this area is sandstone, so many of the gardens have a natural sandy soil. The area benefits from the warming Gulf Stream which travels year round, across the Atlantic Ocean from The Caribbean and, along with the warming South-Westerly winds, laps the coasts of Britain. This has quite a warming effect on Britain and particularly the West Coast; so the area - despite its Northerly latitude, is USDA Zone 9a.

Hi AJ! It is an 'old' historic village AJ, with some of the buildings dating back to the 17th Century - a lot is so old there - so 20, 30 years is brand new! 😎.
Because I move with my job every 5 to 7 years (I get a house that coming with the job) I never get to work long term on a garden. I would love to be able to give years of planning etc into a garden. Loved all the gardens and different ideas. Loved the neat lawn edges too, they really set the boarders off.
Pauline, you’ve obviously got an interesting job but it must be frustrating to have to leave your gardens.
I’m sure though you can create something beautiful quite quickly.
I am a Methodist minister which means I live in a house that is provided by the church. Hence the moves. It is frustrating to leave a garden behind. I like to think that the garden I leave is better than when I arrive. Although I do try and take some plants with me. I have started to keep special plants in containers.
@@paulinecrispin121 that’s nice to be able to take the special plants with you. I’m actually quite a fan of containers and how they can be arranged, and re-arranged, to suit the changing seasons. I should do more of that.

It’s true Nancy - mature plants can develop quite a character.
That was a lovely peaceful tour through a wide range of English gardens. The manicured lawns made me feel quite ashamed....how beautiful they were. Also I loved the idea of making terracotta pots into a feature instead of stacking them away out of sight. And a lot of gardens with little summer pavilions. A great way to enjoy the garden even under English weather!

This was an amazing look into English Gardens, and the music was perfect (I especially love harpsichord music). I have a very new English style garden (5 years old), even though I am "across the pond" in the US. I am so filled with inspiration now on how to make my garden even better!! If you ever come to England in the Summer there are ‘open garden’ days everywhere. You just turn up - pay a small entrance fee - which goes to charity - and enjoy the day. Usually a place to sit in the garden for tea and cake.
What a beautiful and peaceful experience! I fell in love with the tree at about 11 or 12 mins in. So lovely. Thank you so much for sharing this Paul. Also great music 🎶😁. Made my day ❤️
