Oogie boogie was my first introduction to VoicePlay and remains one of my favorites. I love to see people react to it just for the "shocked Pikachu" expression at that one part...no spoilers. 🤣
"When you're a singer and your voice is so low you can make glass shake around you, they call you a bass. When you're a singer and your voice is so low you're called on to reproduce the awesome power of a Viking war horn, they call you Geoff Castellucci."
I second this. Goeff is *amazing* in this. You want a song that inspires you to battle? Do not miss this one. Oh, slight prewarning, the song starts *deep* into the musical scale, some of the deepest notes I've heard from Goeff!
Jose and Cesar went to the same high school and performed together there, so Hoist the Colors was a bit of a reunion for them. The original collaborator wasn't able to get to Orlando for filming so Jose stepped in at the last minute and is fabulous. And if you think Eli is scary as a Viking, wait until you see him as a pirate. I like how Cesar is wearing the same cloak in Valhalla Calling that Jose wore here. If you want to hear Geoff's full range, highest to lowest (at the time; he's since gone lower) watch Oogie Boogie's Song. If a VP song pushes Geoff to his limits, it's probably a Layne arrangement.
I love the "what? how?" regarding Layne's vocal percussion. The man legit sounds like he swallowed a drum set, drum machine, dj turntable setup, soundboard, and the sound guy. When Christmas comes round again, or whenever if you don't want to wait, you should hear his "slay" (sleigh) bells.
His solo of "High and Dry" is just insane and beautiful. No Geoff clones, just him singing those subs as well as notes so high that even I, as a woman, cannot hit! (He's in falsetto but STILL!!!)
I am apparently on a VoicePlay reaction binge and I just discovered yours. Love this song and I had a blast watching you reacting to it. You're absolutely adorable. I'll have to find more. Thanks for my best grin today!
Voiceplay always put 110% into everything they do, they're so fantastic. I honestly think you'd like their version of Hoist the Colours, it's not vikings but it is pirates and absolutely insane. 💜
The separate backgrounds were created by Eli, the bald tanor. He does all their lights and effects. This was recorded during all the Covid madness, so they had to be separate. Each recorded in his home studio. Geoff posted a short bit on Patreon of him coming into his kitchen and grabbing a salad. Full costume and makeup. Speaking the costumes and makeup, they were used again in Valhalla Calling. Except Geoff. The facial makeup was the same, but they dirtied him up considerably in Valhalla. This was made less than two years ago. They have worked ceaselessly to hone their skills Try their cover of Dream on by Aerosmith or Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean 3. Trust me!
I have been listening to Geoff over these years, and honestly, I do not believe he has reached his final form yet. His range just keeps growing, both up and down.
Note: they usualy include those who work in the music video (make-up artist, costumer, stage production, etc...) in the description, since you are curious about it.
There is a reason Geoff is sometimes called the human didgeridoo Geoff has a much higher voice than that. He goes from falsetto to subharmonic in 4 lines.
They have a bit of a connection when it comes to costume and sets. Layne, and former group member Tony run Pattycake Productions, a TH-cam channel that does a lot of Disney based stuff. But some of the costumes they get themselves.
Eli created the backdrops for this and has beening the same ever since I think. They buy some costumes, but Tony Wakim, ex member who left to join Layne in doing Pattycake Productions, also makes some costumes. They have a makeup artist and what Geoff refers to as "beard wrangler" for these costume productions. You can see Jose again in Hoist The Colours, their venture into piracy and another costume piece.
Great reaction! Jose is great, and yes, he fits right in. He's also in Hoist the Colors, looking forward to your reaction to that as well. For more Eli as a mage check out Dragonborn Comes!
You and me both! I think I even mentioned it in the captions I added :P. I may have only thought I did though.... I love the vibes Floki gives in the show. Somehow the most sane madman I've ever seen :P
If you wanna see Geoff reach for the heavens with his voice and scare the hell outta the devil himself with his low ends check out Nightmare before christmas Oogy boogy song from voiceplay
Dragonborn Cones and Hoist the Colors are two others of theirs that sound absolutely epic. I'm also a huge fan of the way they arranged Dream on and Enemy.
Great job now do pirates voice play, hoist the colors, and blow your mind with Geoff castelluchi solo work , Elvis cover of, way down, you will find his 6 octave range lol
and if that is high for Geoff there's always him floating above everyone for a moment in Enemy, or his solo of High and Dry... the man just can't stop one upping himself.
That deeep sound of Geoff with the booming added IS enhanced by post production of course ... Geoff himself said, whenever he sounds inhuman it probably is not 100% "only" himself. But postproduction is okay - that's why all the qualified reactors out there have something to talk about. Geoff does "naked" recordings too: in his studio just singing into the mic/camera. And yeah: That man CAN sing!!! ❤❤❤
I don't think you've yet seen any of Geoff's "solo" videos. Or any Home Free. I think you'll like Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold by Geoff Castellucci. Misty Mountains by Peter Hollens feat. Tim Foust (Home Free's bass singer) is the same song, which is from 2012's The Hobbit movie. I love playing them back to back when I'm out and about. The next movie was The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Ed Sheeran wrote and performed "I See Fire" over the end credits. Peter Hollens did a wonderful version of this song, solo and a cappella, layering his voice into a true masterpiece IMO. Geoff also does a wonderful job in The Rains of Castamere and in Ghost Riders In the Sky, which along with the Elvis cover Way Down play on how his name is so often mispronounced and misspelled.
This was actually the very first Voiceplay song I ever heard. Sometimes you look at people and guess what their voice might sound like and Geoff didn't strike me as having a bass voice, so when he first came in it surprised me big time. And while I'm still surprised in he comes with a sound like a digeridoo! It made me curious to find more of their stuff, and after Oogie Boogie I was totally hooked XD All of their songs are awesome! Layne's my favorite beatboxer ever, and Eli's range is as impressive as Geoff's! I miss Earl and J-None, but Cesar has def grown on me a ton and I'm loving the character his voice has been taking on lately. Awesome group, all their songs are worth a listen!
This gave me chills the first time I heard it. I love the Khal Drogo kind of smirk Jose gives us. So fitting for a warrior clan chief. My favorite fan comment on this was.... LAYNE: Hey! We need Odin's war horn in there somewhere. GEOFF: Hold my mead. Yep. He went there. I think you would also love to hear Geoff's solo version of Misty Mountains from The Hobbit. I'm a die hard VoicePlay fan and Geoff is my favorite bass, but you also need to listen to the Dwarvish version of Misty Mountains sung by Colm McGuinness. The latter will actually make you believe you're in the mines of Moria and a Balrog is joining the chorus. It's simply amazing and his style of singing is totally unique. Zero disrespect to Geoff because I love his version as well, but Colm's version is what I imagine Tolkien would have picked as the truest to his world. They do all the costuming themselves, with a little a little help from Layne's production company PattyCake Studios that he co-owns with another former VP member Tony Wakim. PattyCake also puts out some awesome videos created by Layne and Tony including original songs. Large scale make up is done by Rick Underwood and he's a genius as you can see. Eli is the one who did the work on the backgrounds and does a great job showing different Viking clans. Funny you should mention necromancer--he plays one in Dragonborn and kills it.
As long as we are discussing different versions of Misty Mountain, there is the also-awesome version with Peter Hollens and Tim Faust (from Home Free). I'll go check out Colm's version because that is new to me.
I believe this was recorded during 'lockdown', so they were all in their own places against a green screen, then Eli put them into the different backgrounds. Jose Rosario Jr. has also performed with a group called 'Rockepella' as well as in theatre in the Chicago cast of Hamilton - he also knew Cesar from school! Like some of the other members (and guest performers) of VP, he has also worked in both DisneyWorld and Universal Studios theme parks in Florida, so possibly where Geoff and co. knew him from?
I just realized, there was something really familiar about you. I suddenly realized you're the Viking Reacts from back when you started your very first Nightwish reaction! I still remember being in the Nightwish discord and seeing you discover Nightwish was such an amazing journey. Here I am, two years later, finding you again through a different fandom. Glad to be back, glad to see you back doing reactions again! 🥰🥰
yeah you can definitely 'feel it vibrating' One of these days, my teeth are going to vibrate out of their sockets and i'll have to sue him for personal damages. That I won't get because I'm the one who jammed the headphones onto my ears in the first place and then refused to take them off.
I cry everytime these guys get together. Music is my heart and soul but I could never touch these guys. What an amazing talent. Thank Them All For Sharing Their Hearts With Us!!!
Man, I wish your thumbnail for this one had used your face the moment you heard Geoff hit that first F1 at 01:58! The shock was almost as much as what I'm sure I looked like hearing it for the first time!
If you want to experience Geoff's range, try his solo "Blackbird" Beatles cover... As well as Voiceplay's "Enemy" Imagine Dragons cover. He goes super high and quaking low.
Great reaction, glad you picked up on the game vibes, whenever I see this video it reminds me of a viking rpg that I play on pc called Valheim, as the backgrounds are very reminiscent of that game being plains, meadows, mountains and a made up biome called ashlands whith Geoff being inside a building the game features basebuilding as well. as far as I know the backgrounds are all cg renders by Eli. keep the great videos coming. 👍
Great reaction! New subscriber here. Welcome to the Voiceplay and Geoff Castellucci rabbit hole. You ain’t seen nothing yet. Voiceplay recommendations, warriors, enemy, attention, if I were a rich man/girl, oogie boogie song, superstition and any of their medley’s. queen in 5 mins, boy bands in 5 mins, Moana medley, little mermaid medley. Geoff Castellucci solo recommendations , house of the rising sun, over the misty mountains cold, the reins of castermere, high and dry, blackbird, ghost riders in the sky, the headless horseman, monster mash, way down, man of constant sorrow or ain’t no sunshine. Have fun.
I’m not sure what Jose is doing now. He was in a production of Hamilton (don’t know details) and also was a member of Rockapella (another acapella group), but is not anymore. I’d love to hear him with these guys again. It’s been too long. Now you have to check out Hoist the Colours, just for kicks and giggles. Awesome reaction!! Fun to watch a Viking check out the Vikings!
🙂 Loved this reaction, as I loved the Valhalla's one. Now I'd suggest you to react to their "The Dragonborn comes - Skyrim", from, well... Skyrim (duh!). 😁 That will blow you away AGAIN. 😅 And then I'd suggest their "Halo theme", INCLUDING the long outro in which their "featured singer", Scott Porter (one of Voiceplay's founders and their original beatboxer) explains the story and the reasons behind that particular video. Really worth the while. ❤ But then you could try "other sides" of VP... Funnier sides. Like in "Boogie Boogie Song" from Nightmare before Christmas. Or "We don't talk about Bruno", from Disney's "Encanto". And mainly like in "In the hall of the Mountain King"... A very famous, classical, orchestral music with no lyrics that they transformed in an hilarious trollish storytelling with no lyrics at all 😁😅. Or then their "emotional" side, as in "I can't make you love me". Or their rock side with Aerosmith's "Dream On". Or whatever else... You just can't go wrong with them 😅🙂. BTW, Geoff has his own solo channel... Worth exploring. You have no idea how high he can sing, and how good he sounds up there 😇😇 I'd suggest "Far over the Misty Mountains cold", as a starter... and then his most recent release, "Man of constant sorrow", and "High and dry". But again, anything you pick is good there. And he has a nice sense of humour. 🙂😁 Just subscribed. See you next time!
Thank you for another great reaction to Voice Play. Please do a reaction video to Geoff Castallucci Man Of Constant Sorrow. It is his newest solo cover & we get 5 Geoff's this time. As with all Voice Play & Geoff's videos always wait until the credits stop rolling before you stop any of their videos. Sometimes they have a pause or blackout before the actual ending. An example of this is their covers of..Running Up The Hill...Geoff's Man Of Constant Sorrow & Halo, the theme song from the Halo video game. The composer of the music was totally amazed & said it was the best he ever heard.
There’s a place called patty cake production in Florida (USA) and Geoff’s wife Kathy help greatly with wardrobe And set scenes ! ❤ they live near Epcot / Disney studios … they know a lot of helpful artists in the entertainment business ❤
Those are the connections you need :). Thanks for the trivia! It makes me appreciate the artists better and I love to get to know these people in whatever way possible!
@@VikingReacts If you want to know more about the group, watch their HALO theme cover; including their tribute at the end. You'll like this and their Dragonborn Comes cover because you're a gamer.
Enjoyed your reaction. You have a new Subscriber now. Voiceplay is phenomenal at whatever they do. They never disappoint. You definitely need to hear--Hoist the Colours, Oogie Boogie and Headless Horseman. Geoff in Headless Horseman is one of my favorites to hear Geoff especially in his Subterranean lows along with Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold (Lord of the Rings).
That was a cool reaction. Personally I don't know anything about the background to this video but it totally striked me like some representation of diffrerent elements if you will. Light, Darkness, Earth, Air and fire maybe.
I thought similarly but for me it was Earth, Wind, Fire, Water and Aether (breath of life, It breath of the gods, represented in the 2nd Thor movie as the red stuff that invaded Natalie Portman). I think it is also to represent that the Vikings came from many areas.
you may want to watch the on they do from skyrim dragonborn comes basically anything voiceplay is good but they do have a few that feel very viking like
Actually, Geoff has done a LOT of solo work, like Over the Misty Mountains Cold, where you can get a better look at his vocal range. You've only had a tiny appetizer
New to your channel and I've watched a few of your reactions..I think you'd really like miracle of sounds two god of war songs the first is ode to fury and then to be better
Yeah, Geoff has a crazy vocal range, and you get to see all of that on his solo channel. I really recommend Sixteen Tons as a starting point for him. If you like bass, though, you should look into Jonathan Young as well. He has been known for his hard rock and heavy metal covers of songs, but he's been pushing into doing more original work. He did a really fun cover of Roll the Old Chariot Along with several other singers (all of whom are worth checking out), but one of my favorite original songs that he's done is definitely Land of the Living.
Layne just really like to throw jeff into the spotlights. Jeff's arrangements feel generally more balanced (not better or worse, just less jeff heavy lol)
As recommendations I would truely love to see your reactions to these: Halocene, Lauren Babic & Violet Orlandi - Aerials (system of a down cover) - th-cam.com/video/a2ieONOQtfU/w-d-xo.html Halocene, Lauren Babic & Violet Orlandi - Chop Suey (system of a down cover) - th-cam.com/video/vUpcCN_PWYw/w-d-xo.html Jonathan Young & Lauren Babic - Your Gonna Go Far Kid - th-cam.com/video/67G_iQuMgN0/w-d-xo.html Halocene, Lauren Babic & Violet Orlandi - Toxicity (system of a down cover) - th-cam.com/video/Y8liMsWDC80/w-d-xo.html
This is probably my favorite VoicePlay song, but it's not my favorite version of this song. My favorite version is the one by Dan Vasc. Please 🙏 do a reaction to it, his cover of Amazing Grace, and any other song on Dan's channel. Dan is absolutely amazing and EPIC!
You haven’t experienced Geoff in his complete form until you’ve experienced oogie boogie.
Or the stuff on his channel, where he harmonizes with himself.
FACTS!!!!
Absolutely. Oogie boogie is perfection.
@@bagginssupercat I don't know - The Headless Horseman was REALLY great, too.
Oogie boogie was my first introduction to VoicePlay and remains one of my favorites. I love to see people react to it just for the "shocked Pikachu" expression at that one part...no spoilers. 🤣
Note to Geoff: Heimdahl called. He wants his Gjallarhorn back. ☄️
"When you're a singer and your voice is so low you can make glass shake around you, they call you a bass. When you're a singer and your voice is so low you're called on to reproduce the awesome power of a Viking war horn, they call you Geoff Castellucci."
"That was quite high for Geoff" ......Geoff *Laughs in 4 octaves*
Hahahaha. I just spit water all over my table at this comment. 😂
Eli plays a necromancer in Voiceplay's "The Dragonborn Comes" from Skyrim. Another jaw-dropping performance awaits
I second this. Goeff is *amazing* in this. You want a song that inspires you to battle? Do not miss this one. Oh, slight prewarning, the song starts *deep* into the musical scale, some of the deepest notes I've heard from Goeff!

Layne is widely suspected of being an alien.
It's not actually high for Geoff. He can sing tenor!
Seriously, dude's range is insane and he sings every part himself in his own channel.
His solo of "High and Dry" is just insane and beautiful. No Geoff clones, just him singing those subs as well as notes so high that even I, as a woman, cannot hit! (He's in falsetto but STILL!!!)

Who needs a loud War Horn when you've got Geoff. You can't help it, the vibration. Yeah, gotta love it.

Happy to be of service :P. All jokes aside... I am glad you liked it!
That tape rewind at 7:49 was badass. As were they all.

for body percussion, Pentatonix's cover of White Winter Hymnal is amazing and I particularly love to see it performed live
🙂
Loved this reaction, as I loved the Valhalla's one. Now I'd suggest you to react to their "The Dragonborn comes - Skyrim", from, well... Skyrim (duh!). 😁
That will blow you away AGAIN. 😅
And then I'd suggest their "Halo theme", INCLUDING the long outro in which their "featured singer", Scott Porter (one of Voiceplay's founders and their original beatboxer) explains the story and the reasons behind that particular video. Really worth the while. ❤
But then you could try "other sides" of VP...
You have no idea how high he can sing, and how good he sounds up there 😇😇
I'd suggest "Far over the Misty Mountains cold", as a starter... and then his most recent release, "Man of constant sorrow", and "High and dry". But again, anything you pick is good there. And he has a nice sense of humour. 🙂😁
Just subscribed.
Loving your reactions!
it's a visceral reaction to the bass. lol
Jose has played in Hamilton playing I think 3 roles
Geoff in Headless Horseman is one of my favorites to hear Geoff especially in his Subterranean lows along with Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold (Lord of the Rings).
they do several Halloween/Christmas songs and video game songs like Dragonborn Comes from Skyrim
More Voiceplay and Geoff solo stuff.
Skal! Geoff is well known as a Viking war horn.
Already putting a like on this, because I know it's going to be _amazing_
I put my vote in for Oogie Boogie's Song. Layne, the beat boxer arranged it and he pushed Geoff to his limits at the time.
@@janetdw sounds right to me
Absolute best!! I love this and also The dragonborn comes
you may want to watch the on they do from skyrim dragonborn comes basically anything voiceplay is good but they do have a few that feel very viking like
#Voiceplay❣️❣️❣️
Actually, Geoff has done a LOT of solo work, like Over the Misty Mountains Cold, where you can get a better look at his vocal range. You've only had a tiny appetizer
Here's another fantastic rendition of this song! th-cam.com/video/TdOw6IZAS1c/w-d-xo.html
Do you hear Geoff 's solo stuff?
New to your channel and I've watched a few of your reactions..I think you'd really like miracle of sounds two god of war songs the first is ode to fury and then to be better
What group is this?
VoicePlay!
Sabaton put out a new video on Friday called 1916. You gotta react to it, it's absolutely phenomenal
You have to listen to dragonborn comes if you want one more voiceplay have done
As recommendations I would truely love to see your reactions to these:

Geoff and Tim foust both have epic bass voices. Tim is tricky since he can sing very high and beautiful too.
Try to listen to this.🥰🇩🇰
Hoist the colours
Hide and seek
Need to do dragonborn
You haven't seen nothin yet if you haven't seen Oogie boogie song
For Geoff: quite high. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 keep diving down the rabbit hole. This is NOTHING. 5 Octaves.
You owe it to yourself too see Dragonborn
This is probably my favorite VoicePlay song, but it's not my favorite version of this song. My favorite version is the one by Dan Vasc. Please 🙏 do a reaction to it, his cover of Amazing Grace, and any other song on Dan's channel. Dan is absolutely amazing and EPIC!
YOU SHOULD REALLY CHECK OUT THE GROUP, "BROTHERS OF METAL" VIKING LOOK AND CONTENT ORIENTED.
Haha, I have. There is one reaction on the channel. I do intend on making more though.
Voiceplay is a truly phenomenal group that I really like, but my favorite will always be PTX. Sorry! Lol😊
YOU GOTTA LISTEN TO HOME FREE THEIR BASS SINGER HAS BLOWN OUT SUBWOOFERS IN CONCERT AND THERE ARE VIDS OF THAT LIVE IN CONCERT
