Between this and Too Much Brandy are my top favorites. Let's Push Things Forward was my first video circa 2003 or so, and this album has staying power. Also Stay Positive is creepily still relevant a decade and a half later. Skinner is a legend.
This video is deceptively simple. It's just him with rapping at the camera in various locations. There's no crazy special effects but it flows and tells the story so well. I bet it took a lot of work to choreograph. Also, there needs to be a HD version of this video out there.
I remember seeing The Streets at Reading Festival 2002 in the dance tent. It was a bit special. Life's been up and down since I walked from that crowd.
London is loved and respected by all of Europe. You are our capital, not only because of your mere size but also because of London's influence over the World. Keep it up. Greetings from Sweden/Volvo Land
A new day another morning after, leaning back on my chair in a greasy spoon cafeteria Last night was some beer laryness done our way but again we're back in the light of day Chatting shit, sitting at the wall table telling jokes playing with the salt, lookin' out the window Girl brings 2 plates of full English over with plenty of scrambled eggs and plenty of fried tomato Get my phone out, 'bout to give this girl a shout, see if she had a nice time last night up town Ask if she fancies trying it again sometime then Cal grabs the phone like oi oi oi! Hold it down boy, your head's getting blurred I know you can't stop thinking of her By all means you can vibe with this girl But just don't mug yourself, that's all don't mug yourself! Seriously Mick you fucker No no no Cos ya know what I mean Don't mug yourself I'm fucking, I'm know way really d'ya know what I mean I can take it or leave it, believe, and then Calvins like oi You need to hold it down Jack, put your phone back Quit staring into space and eat your snack, that's that She'll want you much for not hanging on Stop me if I'm wrong, stop me if I'm wrong Why should she be the one who decides whether its off or on or on or off or on Now the girl's rude, I know she's rude but she screwed right through you, you'll be on your knees soon Hold it down boy, your head's getting blurred I know you cant stop thinking of her By all means you can vibe with this girl Bust just don't mug yourself, that's all don't mug yourself! Hold it down boy, your head's getting blurred I know you can't stop thinking of her By all means you can vibe with this girl But just don't mug yourself, that's all don't mug yourself! Hold it down boy, your head's getting blurred! I know you can't stop thinking of her! Like girl is she as smelly ala piss! She must have crab and fuckin' shrimp in her teeth!
way before the word grime or hip hop was thought of, in the 1920's-30's,there was artists like Willie Brown, Woody Guthrie doing talking blues....American Beat poets in the 60's such as Bob Kaufman,Jack Kerouac were rhyming over musical beats and later in the 70s, artists such as Ian Dury, John Cooper Clarke were rhyming over beats so it ain't just a hiphop black or white thing,or grime ...funny how each generation thinks it invented a new way...their way...yet it been around since beginning since people told stories to the beat of a drum...
Oh God... I have tears on my eyes... (nahhh)... itsI just that I stumbled by accident on this song... and I can not believe that I forgot that I loved this song many years ago when MTV was playing some good music...
you can sit here n think of what youve done in your life and think you are very unique, but its all bin done before by millions of people.. mike skinner has the abillity to put it into words
happened to see a Streets video on Much Music a few minutes ago...just made me jump on youtube to bring up all the old songs...still got The Street CD somewhere...got the last 2...
Everybody thinks this is UK Hip Hop but it's actually Punk music. This sort of music was around when Lovers Rock was in the in thing during the 80's. British Reggae gave birth to this with a bit of Breakbeat of course.
Havent followed this whole conversation but I think the word we'r looking for is dialect. There are many different dialects in the UK whether it be scouse (Liverpool), geordie (Newcastle), Brummie (Birmingham), Black Country (West Brom, Wolverhampton) and I think Mike Skinner is somewhere near the last two. I quite like the guy, at least he's being himself and not copying American rap.
@onepiecesuit if you dont like the song dont comment. just because its different doesnt make it shit. the streets are fucking influential and pretty innovative. skinner is a fresh lyricist and everyone can relate to what he writes. They might not be to everyones taste but if its not yours then get out
His delivery is so relaxed and just perfect haha
This song is what I need right now... In the process of mugging myself
randoman11 Don't mug yourself.

This video is deceptively simple. It's just him with rapping at the camera in various locations. There's no crazy special effects but it flows and tells the story so well. I bet it took a lot of work to choreograph. Also, there needs to be a HD version of this video out there.

Everybody thinks this is UK Hip Hop but it's actually Punk music. This sort of music was around when Lovers Rock was in the in thing during the 80's. British Reggae gave birth to this with a bit of Breakbeat of course.
"Done our way, but then again, back in the light of day" is the new best way to call oneself a "night owl".
Ahhh, this song. Good memories.
I listen to this on the way to school to wake me up :)
Saw the streets a few years back in Dublin, Mike shouted "HELLO LONDON" and for the most they werent too happy about it. ha.

Makes me feel so old to see TH-cam vids that are now 11 years old. I remember this video like it was yesterday. Haha
Fuck.
Never gets old
I never had good enough friends like this. They would just laugh at me 😂
This was released over a decade ago and it's still relevant. I don't think three more years is going to make much of a difference.
is there a version with decent sound quality?
