    Trent has singlehandedly raised the prices of used Kitfoxes and increased the wait times for new kits.

      @@russellfreeman4931 Good for Kitfox themselves and the bush-plane industry overall, just adds a few months to those building their own kits. I can see why they're so impatient though, what with similar time spent waiting as it takes to build the thing!
      It's almost good I can't afford one now or else I'd be complaining I can't have my bush plane now with you!

      Personally, I didn't realize how affordable bush type planes were until I started watching his videos... $30-50k is something I can save towards, a normal small aircraft's $200k+ price isn't nearly as attainable!

      Nate See 30 to 50 if you build it yourself. Otherwise your looking at $80,000, $150, 000 $200,000 And up! Depending on what your talking about.

I've been fortunate that all the time I've spent busting my butt at work has allowed me be debt free and collect enough savings to do some of the things I want to do. Happy New Year Ian. Ready for that comparison flight? Every time I go up (which is very frequent) I have so much fun just goofing off or landing on 900 ft grass strips I forget to make some meaningful analysis to pass on to ya. I’ve found myself cruising sometimes between 105-107mph, climbing after takeoff at rates that put me at pattern altitude halfway down the 7500 ft runway at CXO and takeoffs and landings both getting more consistent at around 250 ft as I get better at it. The turbo and variable pitch prop is certainly helping over the standard fixed pitch and Rotax 912. Get those big tires on and let’s go BarHopping!!!

      Interesting question. Given my choice of only those two I would take a Highlander. Given my choice of rag and tube side by side kitplanes I would take a rans s20. Given the choice of any side by side high wing I would take a rans s21. All modified to my specs a bit.

      I only ask because you mentioned side-by-side in your reply.

    Ian, I am a glider guy too and just sold my Sinus and now am looking at a STOL, quite a different world. I used to be able to fly at 18,000 which was nice in Colorado. That would be different and a few other things, I'm sure. Just something about STOL aircraft taking off from towered airports, it seems so unbecoming to the STOL. Did you get your glider cert first and then transition? I wonder if there were any transferrable hours?

      IansLife I guess I meant buying, but owning ain’t cheap either. You need a place to keep it, maintenance and god forbid you blow a engine. Anyway I guess in a way I’m glad it costs a lot or there would be so many people doing it that it wouldn’t be cool or fun anymore. I’ll get the money for a highlander, I’m just gonna have to sell a few toys like one of my Harley’s and my expensive dirt bikes I’m getting to old to ride dirt anyway.

    Если это переднее колесо сдвоенное вилка которая лежит эту конструкцию сделать как хвост обтекаемой формы,то на воде можно поворачивать.

    ТриАтлон у БушМэнов появится .

      How would you compare the speeds between the two, cruise and top speed? I think the landings are about the same, I've read

    • @ianslife210
      @ianslife210  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the wing. I have a stock Kitfox 7 wing with no VG's which won't hang on quite as hard as a highlander or a kitfox STI. They both stall fairly slow but the highlander is easier to work into a small spot than the kitfox. The kitfox kicks the highlanders butt in cruse. The highlander wing hits the wall at 100mph. 28-35" of manifold pressure, same speed. I can match that speed at 24" in the kitfox with a solid 20mph in reserve. That wouldn't be true if I had the other wing though.

    Hi, I’m super interested in getting into aviation. I’ve been watching different guys on you tube for a little while and I really want to get into stol style flying. I randomly came across your video and I live 5 minutes from Hooks airport. David Wayne - I think. Any way I can message you non public to talk with you? I’m just excited to see someone in Tomball area is into the bush style planes. I have a lot of questions.

      Hey Paul, you’re in a good place! Lots of flight training going on at Hooks. Get started on that basic training and you’ll be ready to get into Bush flying sooner than you think!

      IansLife sounds good. Some of my in-laws in Arkansas got their license recently and suggested buying a small plane to get my license in. Apparently it offsets some of the costs and I end up with an asset. My ultimate goal is to get a bush plane, Kit Fox, or similar. My question can I buy a bush plane (experimental) and use it to train and get license? Is there anyone you recommend I talk with at hooks to get started? I really would like to meet you one day, I actually live off of Stuebner Airline north.

      That can be a good option if you have the financial ability to do so. Can add complications however as if anything major breaks your entire advantage could evaporate in one expense.

      The bars were soft and heavily rutted from recent rains so I I just drug them to check the surface. My "little" 850 tires don't offer a ton of insurance for rough ground so safe is better than sorry. The highlander with its 29's could roll over things I couldn't safely.

      @@ianslife210 the speed just baffles me because that's a 4 and a half hour drive with 75mph speed limits on between. You're cruising at, what? 100-120mph? I feel like it shouldn't knock that much time off but evidently there's a factor I'm missing. Are there differences in ground speed and air speed?

    I can't afford a Highlander or SuperSTOL, so I'll build a Zenith CH-750 STOL.

    • @ianslife210
      @ianslife210  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Be sure to calculate total costs with avionics, paint, engine and accessories. Building is often less cost effective than you would expect sadly. Highlanders and super stols are quite expensive but there are other more affordable alternatives.
