I think the tracker for me as being more waterproof is important, or I'd be in my Vibram Five Fingers. Do you have any thoughts on the TRACKER TEXTILE AT? Sadly every time I check out the Vivo website the colour ways and size 8 size is always out of stock 😞
Hey mate, hope they restock the Tracker Textile AT for you soon! Which color would you go for? Any particular reason you’re leaning towards textile over leather?
@@OwenJackson Only one Vivo claim to be waterproof, which I thought strange as the leather ones should be. I am torn between the beige and orange. I'd prefer the Leather Tracker in the brown however.
@@OwenJackson Maybe the TRACKER LEATHER AT MENS would work as they have that in my size? Not sure how this differs from the ESC version - is is just the sole?
I’ve taken my Magna ESC’s on many rugged mountain hikes this past summer and they’ve been amazing. I don’t think I would have been able to climb some of the larger mountains in barefoot shoes without the Michelin treads. I never felt like I needed more boot. Super comfy even after 10-12 hour mountain hikes
The combination of barefoot flexibility with the Michelin treads must give an awesome mix of comfort and grip 🙌🏻 Have you noticed any particular trails or terrain where they especially excelled, or is there anything you’d want to add or change about the shoes after so much use?
I find these boots excel in the roughest of rough terrain. Boulder fields, steep trails, scrambling, loose rock, mud etc. I think maybe the toes could be a bit more protected in the same way the Primus FG’s are. I’m sometimes worried about loose rocks. The tops of these boots are quite soft and don’t offer much protection. Other than that I’ve enjoyed every step and I’ve put them through a lot of abuse. Quality is excellent and these are built to last. Worth the price.
HNY Owen, hope you and the fam had a great one. I have now completed my walking set from Vivobarefoot. I have both of the Tracker ESC’s and a pair of the Textile AT Trackers (JJF) as these have the waterproof membrane. I could not be happier. On snow up here in Scotland the Tracker ESC’s were faultless, in muddy wood walks the Magnas were my go to and my everyday boot is the Textile AT. A point of note, the Textiles are not as breathable as either ESC’s so feet are prone to heating up if coupled with thickish socks. My merino Injini’s are the perfect combo for me and I could not be happier.
HNY, Jockneyranger! Fantastic barefoot collection. Glad to hear the Tracker ESCs performed so well in the snow. The Textile ATs seem like a solid everyday choice too. I hope o get up to Scotland later this year so maybe we'll share a trail 🤙🏻🗻
Used your OJ25 coupon and it worked, i have the forest esc in an 8 and they are huge! Was looking for a more casual wear so the magna in a size 7 is it!! We’ll see if the sizing works out…Thanks so much for the great review and the coupon! 🎉
You're very welcome, Helene! 😊 Awesome choice, fingers crossed they’re the perfect fit! 🎉 At least you have the 100-day return policy as a backup. Thank you so much for your kind words about the review, truly means a lot. What do you have planned for your first outing in the Magnas? @@OwenJacksonthank you so much! I’ll be taking the magna around moor and forest for their first outing a nice 5km tour, it has a nice mix and you can vary the length up to 10km. Hopefully the snow will hold off for the next 2 to three weeks! Thank you again 💚
Excellent review, Owen. I’ve both, and tend to wear the Magnas for summer drier hikes. Both perform superbly with that Michelin sole. Overall the Tracker wins for me; I can do the fashion crime Rambo Tuck in with my trouser bottoms, in place of gaiters 😂
I have both of these exact same boots. LOVE them both. For shoveling my driveway, hiking in snow, really cold weather (15 degree or below), or just wanting my ankle locked in place well, I love the Tracker. For running errands in the slushy, snow, cold rain, going out on town in the cold, I love the Magna. Through the winter I apply the Renapur once/month to condition and protect against the salt. I could easily live with just one, but I absolutely love the flexibility of both and will always have both in my boot arsenal until something better comes out by vivo. I use both without the esc inserts, even hiking around in 0 degree weather. As long as I have my wool socks, I'm good to go.
I’ve just decided on a pair of Magna Forest Esc to replace my work boots. I’ve been slowly transitioning into barefoot trainers after using a cheaper brand as a test. I feel such a difference and comfort when I use them to wearing my heavy work boots. We are required to wear black boots - have worn Altberg Peacekeepers for near 7 years so Hopefully be a good alternative! Looking forward to them arriving the next few days and giving them a go! Love the content and reviews 👍🏻
Thanks for sharing your experience and your support Mordy. Let me know your thoughts on the Magna Forest ESC 😃 Are there any features you’d love to see in future barefoot boots, or future reviews? All the best on your barefoot adventures 👣
@@OwenJacksonfirst impressions are brilliant. I had to size up due to having different size feet but for the limited time I’ve had them so far I am very impressed. Love the feel underfoot walking about and can see me wearing them all day everyday. The lightweight feel and big toe box feels so alien after having my heavy patrol boots for years. I eventually want to try and change all my footwear to barefoot! Cheers again.
Really enjoying your videos. I have the magna esc . Took them on a few hikes and even on a 2 day snow shoeing trip. I like them a lot but in the cold weather, my feet started getting cold when not moving. I just ordered the tracker esc 😅 (used) hopefully they will allow me to use a thicker sock and maybe a second insole for colder hikes
Thanks so much for this, I have the tracker forests, and wanted the magna version as well but size down, this suggests i should get them in the same size
From my experience, anatomical differences and foot shape can make a big difference in how each style feels. The Magna models do tend to have a more conventional fit, in my experience, so if you're comfortable with your usual size in those, it sounds like sticking with that choice would be best. On the other hand, the Tracker Forest ESC, as you mentioned, has a bit more room. With Vivo you have 100 days to trial them so some security should they not be perfect for you. Let me know if you have any more questions and don’t forget to grab a discount linked in the description 👍
How about using these with gaiters? Great to see how these do in winter. I think with be warm enough with thick socks or insulated insoles if needed, my primus trial runners are very water resistance, used them in water and deep mud and only a little water comes in and after a few minutes of walking i dont notice it 😁 Thinking primus trial runners for summer and my gym shoe and mangas for winter hikes with gaiters if needed
That sounds like a solid plan Henry. Gaiters would be a great addition, although I'm yet to try them. Maybe someone in the comments has feedback on using them together? Primus trail for summer and Magnas for winter hikes is a great combo, versatile and adaptable! All the best with your barefoot adventures and sharing your Health and Fitness 👣 There's a limited time boosted discount code in the description if you're interested ✌🏻
@@OwenJackson Thanks so much! If you have a pair of gaiters I think it would be a great video with the mangas. I heard the mangas are fine in the cold, i think their Achilles heel is breathability in heat and some people said they are really bad with some rain. Have you tried the zero hiking boots? I heard their durability is not great but looking at the scramblers 2 or the scramblers 2 waterproof but I think i am going to try the magnas over the winter and see how they do (especially with gaiters). My old Merrel Moabs were perfect apart from not barefoot. I wore them in -20 to +38c, did every thing of extreme hiking over 4 years and they looked new. Excellent grip, breathability, gotex 90% waterproof just on really long hikes the lack of barefootness was really noticeable. I gave them to a charity shop for the forest ESC boot which I returned them
i have both. i use the tracker for hiking andthe magna for fasthikes and trailrunning. as for sizing i needed to get both, tracker and magna, one size smaller than my usual size
@OwenJackson i loved both of them since the moment i slipped in. first i thougt they are quite redundant, but they are not. as you say in your review, the magna are nimble even though they dont look like it. so, as there was no other shoe available for my fast hikes ans runnings in the forest, i gave it a try. and it worked perfectly. so they are my trailrunners now. love them. and for the trackers...for me the perfekt hiking boot. comfortable, made my knee problems go away nearly completely on long hikes and they ground me (as every vivo i own does). i just love the feeling i get as soon as i step into a vivo and feel the ground. i have replaced every shoe with vivos exept those for mountainbiking and motorcycling. by the way, i bought the motus flex because of you. love them 😄🤷
I have 2 pairs of Magna, they are my favorite shoe, I have never wore anything more comfortable, I tried other barefoot shoes from vivo, but none of them fit like the magna :D
@@OwenJackson Mostly walking and hiking, the Michelin soles really makes walking on concrete a bit more pleasant, yet you can still feel everything, I kind of wish they incorporate these soles in more of their products. currently I wear the brown version of these shoes more than the black on, but it would be nice if they have more variety of colour, such as a black top and a white sole :D maybe someday.
Ive read certain people have had a problem with thr tracker with the inside ankle area having a stiff bump/material rubbing and being uncomfortable that the magna may have solved with thr stretchy material.
Thanks for watching. I personally haven’t noticed a stiff bump or rubbing issue with the Tracker Forest ESC, they’ve worked really well for me. But everyone’s feet are a little different, so that’s not to diminish someone else’s experience. The Magna version do seem to offer a softer, more adaptive fit with their stretchy material. Are the Magna your preferred choice? Have you had a chance to try barefoot shoes before?
@@OwenJackson I just got my first pair of vivo barefoot shoes, magna lite wr sg boots. It also has a stretchy ankle material. I live in a warmer climate in Los Angeles, California.
Let me know if you will have a look at the jungle ESC’s. I spoke to Vivo about my Cape wrath Trail and that was a recommendation. Ill be traversing boggy ground for days as well as fording rivers but I’m still not sure NW Scotland in late May qualifies as a jungle :D
Personally, I’d lean towards the Tracker Forest ESC. The Jungle boots are great for breathability with that porous drainage design, which I know is a big plus for wet conditions. I haven’t used the Jungle ESC myself, but I’ve had good experiences with the Hydra ESC in summer hikes and swim-run's, which has a similar tech approach to moisture management. That said, in colder weather, I’d probably prefer the thermal insulation of a leather boot. My Tracker Forest ESC held up well even in a Finnish winter! Another option to consider, if you’re still thinking of the Jungle boots, is the expedition-grade Tundra ESC, which might offer the best of both worlds. Let me know if you have any questions, and don’t forget about the discount code listed in the description. Vivo also offers a 100-day return policy, so you’ll have plenty of time to test them out! What are you leaning toward?
Appreciate the response. 👍🏼 Vivo reckon that the extra drainage would be exactly what I should consider. It shouldn’t be cold enough to warrant the tundra and the extra breathability of the jungles would allow my feet to try between rivers and the boots dry out over night to go again next day. I have both the Forest trackers and the Magnas so I’ll try both of those prior to May and make a judgement call nearer the time. I appreciate the code tho, consider it banked. ;)
In my experience, the ESC sole excels in sub-zero conditions. While ice can be challenging, these soles provide a stable grip across all terrains and seasons. Are you a barefoot enthusiast? Which do you prefer: the Forest Tracker ESC or the Magna Tracker ESC?
How do you think the ECS soles would hold up to some light but daily use on pavement and hard polished floors in shops? I mean short trips to pick up some groceries after fishing/hiking/walking the dog. My wife and I spend a lot of time outside on cold wet ground, but I tend to only wear one shoe for all occasions for a single day, lol. And we basically have two seasons, wet/cold and summer. My all-rounder now is a Jim Green Barefoot African Ranger, but it is more of summer boot and kind of heavy. I've been interested in the Forest Escape for a while now but I'm on the fence. I could benefit from a pair of SG style soles for sure but kind of want them to pull double duty. Thanks for the comparison.
Hey Kit, the ESC soles should handle light daily use on pavement well, offering good grip even in wet conditions. I’d imagine they’re lighter than the Jim Green Barefoot African Ranger at about 525g. Their lighter weight should also make them more comfortable for all-day wear. While you might see faster wear on hard surfaces, they’re designed to be used and enjoyed. For a versatile, all-day option, the Forest ESC seems like a solid choice! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Another boot to consider is the Tracker AT, which has more of a firm-ground bias but is still a competent all-rounder: th-cam.com/video/Vb3JiAzC7_M/w-d-xo.html
