Quite notably it was most prominently played in Druid even before then, but in a list that simply ran no minions. The nerf to Kazakusan did actually force that deck to run dragons, slowing down the old deck.
About Varia and Mida: Varia was good in standard shadow priest (the version of the deck that genuinely ran undeads) and mida was good for control matchups
Still baffled that Sindragosa wasn't just made significantly stronger and turned into a 2 or 3 frost card to make up for it. Frost DK could've used a more board-centric wincon rather than just shitty freeze interactions and unreliable burn combos. Product 9 on paper looked like a neat inclusion for Reno Hunter with just repeating the improved secrets from Tavish. But turns out that's just unnecessary value when it works and a dead card when it doesn't. Mi'da feels like it shows up in every "No-Wincon-Control" Priest deck I ever run into. It still sucks ass though. Fanottem, I just fucking love playing in a Dinomancer Disco Warlock meme deck. Real fun to just summon like 15 of the bastard (unless you play against Control Priest and they just wipe your board every single turn).
Varia WAS really good in standard for one expansion, shadow undead priest was one of the best decks to climb to legend and the one I used for a couple seasons.
1. Seriously, did NOBODY test Skyla when they made her a Rogue Tourist? How did NOBODY catch that coins were going to make Mage *absolutely cracked?* 2. You got Azerite Murloc's effect wrong, but it hardly matters since the card is ARSE either way. It *genuinely* needs a total rework from the ground up. Like maybe just reverse the effect, where it turns minions in your *opponent's hand and deck into random minions , but ones of the same cost. Finley ,tho, I will defend as a good card and a *great* addition in Paladin because Paladin's Excavate reward is actually pretty solid in context of cards like Tigress Plushie 3. *Tho'grun* , *Deepminer Brann* , *Puppetmaster Dorian* and the original *Yogg-Saron, Unleashed* are to this day some of the most baffling cards ever released. I've seen *fan cards* designed with more restraint.
I like using colosal Sindragosa, she gives good tempo for exavate Death Knight. Also good to give reborn with location (or use dead air) because wings spawns after reborn and they have freeze so harder for opponent to remove
"People are expressing great dissatisfaction with our card design and balance lately so let's print a way for Mage to summon 4 water elementals with charge on turn 4 consistently!" Also I just can't understand, what the hell was the point of buffing Millhouse to 9 two weeks before printing a 5 mana version of it? that's so pathetic, what's the point???
Sorry, but you never saw Mi'da? That card was basically in every single Priest Deck during March of the Lich King. It was amazing, especially in control Mirrors.
Deepminer Brann needs to be changed to where *only the first* Battlecry each turn is doubled. Its still an insanely strong effect but its balanced out by actually having to CARE about which one you're doubling
There was ONE deck Naralex was kinda crazy in. Demon Hunter in sunken city would run this if they ran Drek'thar. If you get Nighmare, you play it on Lady S'theno and it was the worst thing I've felt since facing pre-nerf Celestial Allignment
As a hearthstone player that enjoys not playing aggro for hours a day, this standard set is brutal. Mage is too oppressive and common to not play anything that cant kill on turn 4.
I’d really be interested in seeing Deepminer Brann’s effect, but for Deathrattles. Not sure what class/cost it should be, but Deathrattle as a keyword on its own has rarely felt good enough unless it’s specifically tied to a class’s identity(Death Knight) or had help from Battlecry(Yelling Yodeler). It being inherently a slower board based keyword seems like it’d be much more fun/interesting to play with/against.
Things Flare was wrong about in this video (IMO): Deepminer Brann: never had opressive winrates, and with a winrate of 43% now, sees 8% meta play, meaning reno warrior is actually a deck people enjoy. Thaddius: also never had agregious winrates? was nerfed because people didnt like losing to the decks Dungar: sees play in standard (mid winrate but playable) also some play in top 50 wild legend Replicator: sees play in odyn warrior, tier 1-3 depending on rank bracket Dorian: Mid winrates in wild, easily counterable, never had opressive winrate in standard(lower than average drawn winrate in tempo druid)
1.- Win rates and play rates are not the entire picture 2.- Deepminer Brann was an incredibly oppressive card and the best and most popular deck in the format for a while when Brann was 6 mana, but if you ask for my opinion the issue isn't exactly Brann but Thogrunn, I just hate cards that outright destroy the enemy deck, with Battlecries even! completely uninteractive stuff. At least with good ol' mill Rogue and stuff, you ran the danger of feeding an enemy a full hand giving them resources, these stuff like Thogrunn and Tickatus just outright destroy your shit... also deck hand and battlefield? so completely choked? might as well say win the game. Astalor was an issue with Brann but that was because of Astalor too, since Rogue made a similarly busted strategy with it. So in the end it isn't really Brann but the battlecries themselves, Brann might be a value bomb but won't win you the game alone. It is bad design in that it limits future battlecries for the game tho. 3.- Thaddius has been nerfed 3 times if I am correct for a reason dude 4.- Dungar is... meh, the decks aren't exactly broken or anything, but they aren't top tier either, I don't think it's the worst card ever printed tho 5.- I've literally never seen a meta deck that runs Replicator, even less so on Odyn Warrior 6.- Dorian does allow for some nasty shit, but it's also somewhat slow, it is annoying tho that if that 2/6 drops at turn 4 you have to kill it then and there or you lose and if you are a slow matchup and Druid pairs it with one of their several tutor cards then you are pretty fucked too. It only sees play in Druid honestly for a reason too.
@@TheSilverwolf97Thogrunn should’ve been reworked into an end of turn effect so you couldn’t combo it with Brann. that's the thing about making cards: sometimes you print random-ass cards and see what players do with them. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes a card you though was gonna be a meme becomes meta-breaking. honestly i don't think they should print cards with the goal of being fit into an existing meta and existing decks. new cards should be fun and push you to experiment. if they're too weak, it's the devs' fault and they should try buff them, but with cards like Replicatorinator it's more gonna be a case of "does this ever find a deck?" which eventually it might (think OG Jailer, hopefully it's not that broken).
The point about the game being just kinda... bad the last couple of years really hit home. Even this standart meta (before the miniset) being really diverse, with about every class having a decent to strong deck, the game just feels weird to play. Of course, I also happened to be ahead of my opponents, but he definitely played his part well. Definitely better than Millhouse imo, but I can see why you said what you said. Very niche card, but I liked him during his end time in Standard.
Ulthok would have been significantly better as a hunter card (most cards that are bad would be better as hunter cards) due to their large stats + opportunity cost of dealing a LOT of damage on turns where hunter wants to deal a lot of damage. Hunter / Paladin / DK fundamentally are better at using almost any card than most other classes due to the buff oriented / super value on board oriented minions they have that are great at both trading and playing aggressively
@@FlareIsGone Absolutely agreed there. Just imagining this card in either Hunter or Paladin would be insane due to their sheer aggression potential as a class.
