So MRK1 Consulting and Driven International, the two companies that worked on this redesign with Karun Chandhok, have seen this video and shown me some love on Twitter for it. Feeling good! Thanks so much guys, it means a ton.
@@hamza-chaudhry Here's a video from 2014-era SPR explaining what happened th-cam.com/video/ZsAgRQ8BUrM/w-d-xo.html TL;DW: shenanigans involving procedures surrounding his birth.
It's amazing. Around 2013/4 something like that, I made an alternate layout to the track using Gmap-pedometer. It's almost exactly, to the corner, the layout that they have ended up using, with only one change I made not there. But, I'm 100% saying that this is now my track design and it's being used in F1. On this video, I really loved the overlaying of the two different tracks. That showed such a good representation of the changes.
Everyone and their dog is now going to be doing online critiques of race tracks and suggesting improvements etc in the hope that within a few years the circuit owners will implement them. :D
And very few of them good, I just hope "good" track design is something that hits the mainstream, Or Rhys could just get 500k subs, works fine for me both ways
Basically, after years of every track being a Tilkedrome made to the exact same rules by the same guy, the enforced introduction of new circuits last year to complete the calendar, rather than the "sell to the highest bidder" format, means that fans - and circuit owners - have seen the improved racing that's resulted and decided to improve their tracks to compete. Which can't be a bad thing.
the realigning of the straight going into the marina really gives a better flow to the double apex right handers. one thing that's notable about that section is how if you run too tight you can easily bin it into the wall. I think they are actually trying to make it a much more appealing and action filled circuit, and it's kinda worked...
I'd have liked a littlte deeper analysis about the effects of banked, quick turns on the ability to take different lines and follow each other more closely, and some more detailed analysis on the probable outcome in terms of overtaking in general, but nevertheless, this was a very well put-together analysis with very helpful graphica design, so thx for that.
Banking can be used to decrease aero dependancy and adds support to less conventional lines through a corner. The more banking, the more a component of the car’s inertia gets sent into the ground, generating more grip and in theory turning the corner into more of a straight line. For this new lefthand sweeper I think they will try to optimize an inside and outside line by supporting different parts of the track at different times. I think in general they will try to add more banking to the outside of the corner to speed up that part of the track, but they can also run simulations to optimize the corner’s geometry. Another positive when including progressive banking is that you can prevent inside cars from washing out wide, ultimately killing anyone attempting to pass around the outside. Also, the less stop-starty and single file a track is, the less the field spreads as those characteristics usually mean a single overpowered racing line thinning out the herd.
8:28 I think Codemasters have said that they won't be updating any of the tracks with their new layouts and that they are only committing to adding the new tracks - Portimao (already added in September), Imola (October) and Jeddah (November). Istanbul will not being added to the game :(
Only thing that would Make it better would be to get rid of the weird awkward exit to the back straight and make it a better passing area where cars can race out of the exit too down towards the new banked corner
I know I'm in a minority but I think the chicane before the hairpin is fine, and all that needs changing is to give the hairpin a bit more shape to make it harder to just hug the constant-radius inside (which allows a driver to defend the entry without losing out on the exit). Make it tighten up in order that the optimum racing line is to swing out wide and apex late (opening the door for dive-bombs, or if you defend against that with an early apex, switchback overtakes on the straight)
Hey, thanks for the video :) At the Losail circuit last weekend we saw some cars being able to follow fairly closely through the fast corners. As you mentioned that's unusual, and was unexpected, fingers crossed it continues to be possible in the last two races!
I just watched an onboard of an Aston Martin car going around the new layout. Looks like a better flow and F1 cars are going to be fast! I think it'll really come into it's own with the new ground effect f1 cars in 2022.
FYI Codemasters won't update Yas Marina for this year's game, and they also are not going to update Spain or Australia either, so we have to wait for an Assetto mod or something
Ya know.. your point about all these tracks changing after 2020 made me think - I actually do think it is connected. 2020, with all the amazing substitute tracks, not only showed to all the bad tracks in the world that there are better alternatives, but most importantly: It showed it to the fans. Portimao, Nürburgring, Istanbul, Imola, Mugello, Bahrrain 2 - While all of these have their issues in my book, each and every one of them beats Spain, Abu Dhabi and Australia. Yes, Abu Dhabi has "Fuck you"-money, but F1 can only ignore the fans for _so long_, and when you actively show them how many better tracks there are around the world, even the casual fans who maybe don't know any tracks outside F1 will start to ask questions. I am excited for the Abu Dhabi changes, THAT BEING SAID, fuck the country and it's backwards fucking monarchy, and I still hate F1 is giving them the chance for their fucking propaganda (with no offense to the people of the UAE, who are not at fault for their leaders).
honestly, to improve this circuit even more, it would be interesting to take out those slow and tedious corners that pass by the hotel, and make one more straight before the main straight, possibly creating a new DRS zone
It's the great hypocrisy of the F1 calendar isn't it... Yas Marina's hairpin? Get a chicane in there. Baku's castle section and the entirety of Monaco? No worries!
If they keep the current track layouts as well as the new changes i think they will leave the new fast left flat so that the original track layout is still usable in other series which would be unfortunate, but if they scrap the old layout and only have the new one then they will have to put some good banking on there surely!
CodeMasters have already stated that every track in 2021 will be using 2020 track layouts. They just got bought by a billion dollar company but they can't find the manpower or time to make a few changes at a few tracks. They'll charge $80 for a deluxe edition with dumb liveries that no one will ever use though.
I feel like these changes have been made with next years cars in mind, maybe the race will be better this year but I dont think we can really judge until next season
I liked the now old layout in racing games especially those tight 90 degree corners and chicanes. It was fked up but I think it was fked up in a way that it made it one of a kind. We have so many great tracks they could have leave it the way it was.
6:14 - Very Mugello indeed. Which reminds me...... *_BRING BACK THE ITALIAN TRIPLE!!!_* Three F1 races in Italy was magical, and honestly could be the start of something beautiful if they get it right. Imagine an F1 World Championship season with a few mini-cups thrown in! A trio of Italian races could be their own mini-championship, and it'd be not a moment too soon due to how important Italy is to Formula One's history. I also just REALLY wanna see Mugello make a return to the calendar, in any capacity. That place was so freaking FAST and opened many eyes to just how amazing speed is, in and of itself. I calculated the average speed of the pole lap around there and....Jesus H. Christ on a bicycle. *156 miles an hour.* Can we get some more of that steroidal roller coaster action, please?
Only tilke could have a totally blank canvas to make a great track with, look at it and say, you know what this track needs? More chicanes! Lol i just dont get that mindset at all
I've been watching you for several years now, but that hand thing you've going on irritated me really for the first time... Is that new? Or did I just not mentioned it before? And what is it? So many questions. p.s. Good Video thx
Finally, the worst tracks are changing or dropping. Abu Dhabi huge change to the good. Sochi most likely dropped for a much more exciting Igora drive in St Petersburg. Catalunya going into the good direction, if only they would get rid of the last chicane.
Codemaster should just make a complete F1 game and run it as a service with the yearly subscription fee similar to the current games or lower, when there is only updates on the cars...
@@juliusfucik4011 They can certainly sell the new stories as chapter DLCs. It's like mangas: if people really love them, they will continue to buy them.

Y'know, despite the fact that Mugello itself wasn't great for passing.
