Outstanding and extremely enjoyable. I love circuit history like this, understanding how they came to be, what transformed them to what we have today, and what could have been. Spent so many hours reading up on these things, but this has brilliantly visualized the history of one of the most interesting tracks in the world. Hats off!

Tarzan is called the way it is because in the early stages of building of the track, the owner of the part of land that covered turn 1's territory was owned by man who refused to give it up, no matter the price, his name was indeed, Tarzan.
In the end he did give it up.

Congrats from a Dutch racing lover on the R&D and neutrality on all the stories you did here.
Another one of those is that the material for the straight build during the war, sold as a parade part to the Germans, was the build of the Atlantikwall, completely destroying all the buildings on the seaside, providing rubble to build it. It is litterally Zandvoort's history buried there, and driven over daily.
In combination with later laws to not build hotels and condo's at the seaside, make's Zandvoort that weird beach place with just a single hotel (The NH next to the track) at the beach itself.

    Superb video, really informative.
I grew up about as close as possible you can live to this track right at the entrance (the nearest bungalow to the entry so even beating the hotel lol), I was at the track with my little quad bike nearly every day after school, either playing on my ''own'' tracks or helping out the event companies moving their karts from the pit buildings to the track on the paddock (which as a 10 year old was great for me and my friends, and it saved the employees at least 2 hours a day...and on top of it all we got to drive in the kart races very often whenever there was a kart or two left over if the group was too small!).
However I was never very exposed to the proper history of the track and it's been very insightful. Loved it!
The latest rescan for iRacing is just fantastic..the SF23 on this track is a workout and a half!

Great video, very well done in all areas and it's nice to see you back.
I shared your concern when it was announced that F1 was returning, but was pretty relieved with what they did. It gets a bit of hate and people saying it's a bad track for racing, but I think it's a super fun track to drive. I have seen some fun races there, but I've also seen a fair share of not great races there... but I could say that about lots of tracks. I find it works best with grip cars since you don't have to worry about the aero wash.
My AC league just raced here today so perfect timing.

All those years spent in the 90's looking at Zandvoort as a shadow of its former self must've been painful, but still it rose.
Honestly, the high-speed, banked nature of the current layout strikes me as bringing the track's nature full circle too. What was once a fast dash through the sand dunes became a technical club circuit of basically half the length, which itself became larger and more flowing. And now, with the banking? Back to being one of the gnarliest tracks on the F1 calendar, I'd say.

I just wished Williamson didn’t die out there, it truly was the downfall of the long lay-out, now there’s a golf course there.
Though, the short lay-out is very good too.
Also I drove there before the rework, so did my dad, we still need to go out there sometime and drive the new track.
Also, I have never seen the Euro-layout (shortcuts at Slotemakers, which is the dip between Hugenholtz and Scheivlak) being used, it’s always there but blocked off. I think the truck-races use it, but they’re fast enough to use the full layout as well.
Also, the designer, Hans Hugenholtz, also designed Suzuka, and I think Tsukuba took inspiration from Zandvoort turn 1, 2 and 3, if you watch one of the “Hot Version” races on Tsukuba, then watch Tarzan-Gerlach-Hugenholtz on the Zandvoort track, they are very similar, except Tsukuba is flat.
6:32 Edit: The Tarzan bocht name supposedly comes from a prototype layout that wanted to curve left, through the allotment gardens (is that how you say “Volkstuintjes” in English?), but there was resistance from a rather large chap, nicknamed Tarzan because of his tanned skin and rough hair. After which Alphen decided to turn right as a first corner.
Again, sounds a bit like a legend.
Edit 2: 14:25 Also known as the “Audi-S” I think because of DTM
Edit 3: 15:24 There’s a lot of different names, but the Masters is also known as the Renault, the corner following that is Marlboro, then “Bocht Zonder Naam”-corner without name.
I never knew the Audi-S/Hans Ernst was called the Nissan either, you learn something new don’t you
