"Hi, this is Mato." For almost five years now I've been a Mato addict. Even long before I found out I had Asperger's Syndrome and Bipolar Disorder II type and was very sick mentally. Funny how this channel has followed me in very bad times and very good times. At the beginning I never found the Killer Move. Now I found it often and I enjoy killing my opponents OTB. Winning chess games is some of the best feelings there ever is, has been for thousands of year and will be so for thousands more. "In sickness and health". Heck, it's like a marriage. Alternating between the pieces, both black and white. Forming intimate realationships between the players, they exchange ideas and strategies. Chess is a jar with both marmite and honey. In chess, I learned to lose, I learned to win.
En passant (from French: in passing) is a move in the board game of chess . It is a special pawn capture which can occur immediately after a player moves a pawn two squares forward from its starting position, and an enemy pawn could have captured it had it moved only one square forward. The opponent captures the just-moved pawn as if taking it "as it passes" through the first square.
Hi Mato! I started to watch your videos after I found it in my recommended videos. I watch your videos everyday and it has helped to improve my game tremendously. Your narrative in all your videos is uniquely pleasing. Thank you very much. Warm Regards.
Hello Sir Mato.....I am a big fan of urs....I like ur instructive videos..they help me improve my game. I like them bcoz they r short and sweet. Well...ur voice is v calm and cool too..I want to know also that wt software u use on the videos..I mean board and pieces....plz let me know. thanx a lot...
Knights are good in openings and middle game as their attacks are not blocked by pieces. Bishops are best in end games due to open diagonal files to maximise the full use.
You have yet to do an amazing Judit Polgar game. I forgot who she played, but one move towards the end of the game Kasparow said it was one of the most amazing moves he's ever seen, and he never saw the move!
Great job Mato. With your play by play, you can almost feel the frustration of the pursued king and the disappointment of the resignation. Very dramatic actually.
Great game! The Moscow variation is usually thought to be a "boring", quiet line, but Ivanchuk shows that a creative player can make any variation exciting.
does 9...Gxf6 seem like the critical "mistake" of the game? Taking with the G pawn seems just to stop black from castling kingside and traps the king in the middle. Would taking with the E pawn have been better?
This opening transposed into the Sicilian Richter-Rauzer, where black is happy to accept the worse pawn structure in return for the two bishops, compact pawns around his king in the center (he frequently leaves his king in the center but is known to castle on both sides of the board), and play on the c- and g-files. The problem for black is his difficulty maintaining both center pawns (as in this game), especially his d-pawn, and in other lines white can threaten to penetrate the kingside with his queen to good effect.
This game is one of Ivanchuk's best games ever, but not the best! Mato, do you plan to present his famous "Queen to g7" game against Shirov? That move is considered as one of the most beautiful moves played in the history of chess. Thank you for reading and I wish you good luck this weekend :)
Damn, what a game! Did Kasparov make any mistake in particular, or did Ivanchuk play any brilliancy in particular? Or was this just a win by accumulation of small advantages?
My game has definitely improved, since I've been following your chess analysis, but it's only slightly better, compared to the caliber of opponents who you cover.
Terrific game between two giants ,howerver Ivanchuk squeezed and strangled Kasparov, after each move, like an Anaconda ! Ivanchuk shows here his cruel agressiveness like Fischer ! The 2 nights being very superior to the bishops in this game , depending on the position .A pawn can be superior to a queen, this is the magic grace of chess .
+Locutus D'Borg I'm not sure who it was but a grandmaster once said: "In my opinion, the most beautiful chess trap is when I play e4 and my opponent responds with c5. Now I just have to play a perfect game to win.....". I mean seriously, what does everyone find so good in the Sicillian? Freaking stockfish is at 0 at the start and when e4, c5 is played it immediately goes to +0,5. That means that white is already half a pawn up!!!!! I don't know what kind of myth made everyone believe that the Sicillian is GOD.....
Jack Carter What? Am I wrong when I say that the Sicillian only works when you are playing against inferior opponents? Take 2 players of the same skill and the Sicillian never ever works..... Not to mention that Kasparov, one of the best players ever if not THE best player ever, lost this game playing the Sicillian.....
the pain of sicilian is losing the pawn on d6 i think since kasparov play with knight on d7 after chheck with rossolimo attack and knight was pinned this is all the trouble
Agreed - an excellent square clearance idea. The knight is so strong on c4...I think after Nc4, black's only way to make a fight of the game is to play Rxc4...
This is the most impressive game of Ivanchuk that i've seen and he defeated Kasparov. Wow, I always thought that Ivanchuk is some kind of idiot, especially with his game against Caruana. I was wrong.
Ivanchuk clearly outplayed Kasparov but at 3:40 Rxc5 was a mistake, since that move allowed white knight on d2 to be active and disrupt black's game plan. Also black's queen was unbelievably passive in this game.
Very nice open game... And good to know that even nowadays there is open chess at highest levels sometimes, not only boring positional maneuvering with only one goal (bore your enemy till he doesnt want to play anymore)

Thank you for your comment
Wonderful words in a great comment! Chess is one of the best things in our world. Good luck for you, my friend!
Alcides MFJr. Thank you very much, mr Beethoven!
Amazingly sculpted words flowing from the mind of the poet that you are!
No words to say...
I wish you the best from the bottom of my heart..❤💙💚
+Moussa Kaddour Thank you for your comment!
Incredible game by Ivanchuck. That's the first time I've seen Kasparov get destroyed like that!
Great players like Kasparov need to be humiliated every so often to be reminded they're human too. Well played Mr. Ivanchuk!
And he's still got it. He humiliated M. Carlsen in Doha Rapid Chess just yesterday. Completely outplayed him.
Samuel Young Fischer would have destroyed him worse
Samuel Young I've heard Ivanchuk always was Kasparov's nemesis...
I've heard it said that Ivanchuk was the only player Kasparov feared.
before i discovered Mato.....chess videos were boring....thank you for every video
+Nazih Benkhelfa Thank you

*I've watched this game countless times on Chessbase it's one of Ivanchuks most impressive wins and against Kasparov - simply a brilliant game*
Ok, we got you... no need to use the BOLD letters please! :D
Very interesting game. You really manage to select very good matches to show to us.
Thank you for that! :)

Thank you
"Did 2 knights outplay 2 bishops, or did Ivanchuk outplay Kasparov?" .. I love that line :)
you have a really soothing voice, thank you for your videos, I have watched them all with delight !
Easily one of the most beautiful games I've ever seen. Chucky is a beast.
wow of all your games that I've watched, this one is my favorite. Title should be Chess Brilliancy

Awesome.
Now I can see why Kasparov feared Ivanchuk
really love your work... thankkkxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx :)
Mato keep your good work up! Many thanks!
hey mato, please bring more games of rossolimo humself . you are the best commmentator with the most understandable english. thank you.
brilliant game by ivanchuk
Thank you for your comment
Awesome video Mato!
Thank you !
Hi Mato, you present the online chess games very good and make it interesting to watch. I enjoy it very much as this is chess at its best.
Mato, keep it going. The videos are great.
great chess video once again the way you explain the moves are clear and precise
Knights are good in openings and middle game as their attacks are not blocked by pieces. Bishops are best in end games due to open diagonal files to maximise the full use.
Mato Thanks for your wonderful uploads! I am learning a lot. However, I never understand the move Kg1 to Kh1 after castling. Is King unsafe on g1?
You have yet to do an amazing Judit Polgar game. I forgot who she played, but one move towards the end of the game Kasparow said it was one of the most amazing moves he's ever seen, and he never saw the move!
It seems on this occasion Kasparov's ability to see many moves ahead was not as strong as Ivanchuk's. Thanks for posting this brilliant attack.
What an epic line. Did the knights out play the bishops,or was it the playrtd amongst themselves. Thank you for your flawless presentation.
Great job Mato. With your play by play, you can almost feel the frustration of the pursued king and the disappointment of the resignation. Very dramatic actually.

Kasparov was outplayed.Kasparov was having to defend so he wasn't able to develop his pieces.Well played game by his opponent.
Ivanchuk completely crushed Kasparov. Thanks for the awesome game, Mato!
The g4 pawn move was pretty transparent, he did a great job setting it up though.
Ivanchuk dijo que los ajedrecistas no precisan dinero para el ajedrez sino movimientos hermosos. Esta es la prueba. Genio indudable. Gracias Mato!
I would rather watch Chucky play one game than Gaza play ten.GM Ivanchuk has an intensity that is inspiring !!
I've seen this game before its a veritable Chucky masterpiece .
Btw ,congratulation Mato for your new chess board !
Birthday present ?
nice game.
thanks Mato.
Then there's that other crazy Kasparov - Ivanchuk game, the French defence where Ivanchuk puts his bishop back on the starting square on move 5.
hey mato. you asked did 2 knights outplay 2 bishops or did ivanchuk outplayed kasparov.in your opinion which was it. again thank you for what you do.
Never saw Kasparov get the beating of a lifetime ! What a game !
What was the game they played, where Ivanchuk developed his bishop, then retreated it back to the starting square, and proceeded to win the game?
Sweet game!
mato what engine do u use???
This game is one of Ivanchuk's best games ever, but not the best! Mato, do you plan to present his famous "Queen to g7" game against Shirov? That move is considered as one of the most beautiful moves played in the history of chess.
Thank you for reading and I wish you good luck this weekend :)
one of my favorite games
Check the 9th move. There is same position in the game between Sergey Kalugin and Pavel Anisimov. Another variation and white won. Beatiful game.
Damn, what a game! Did Kasparov make any mistake in particular, or did Ivanchuk play any brilliancy in particular? Or was this just a win by accumulation of small advantages?
Very nice
Wow this game is awesome
حلوا ايفانتشوك فيم جميل مثلك
just to clarify I think it is called the moscow variation,
the rossolimo is
1.e4 c5
2.Nf3 Nc6
3.Bb5
Je vous le dis "en passant" : votre accent est excellent. ;))
Fabulous Chucky!!
Very nice game by Ivanchuk,Kasparov stoped playing Nb7 after this game. But this isn´t the Rossolimo attack, this is the Moscow variation.
What an elegant game. :)
Wow what a game. Talk about cramping up your opponent!
c5 follow by Nf4 is very rare idea. I like it!
One of the best and fascinating game I know
Mato did u play against Ivanchuk?
Mato why Kh1 at 1:59? What is the purpose?
great game!!
Woooow !
first I thought that Kasparov was going to win.........of course, but what a surprise
can you explain how pawn takes pawn in 5:15
1:09 qxe4 ?
My game has definitely improved, since I've been following your chess analysis, but it's only slightly better, compared to the caliber of opponents who you cover.
ivanchuk is too crazy playing hahaha i idetified with his style, to crazy playing
Very fine
Great game by Chucky. Its a pity that he is never so consistent. He is a genius who never could become the world champion....
great win ivanchuk. fischer would have been a great game with you
One of the best chess games
Wow!
Ivanchuk is an awesome player.
Terrific game between two giants ,howerver Ivanchuk squeezed
and strangled Kasparov, after each move, like an Anaconda !
Ivanchuk shows here his cruel agressiveness like Fischer !
The 2 nights being very superior to the bishops in this game ,
depending on the position .A pawn can be superior to a queen,
this is the magic grace of chess .
Don't be sad, man.
Kasparov's loss proves that Kasparov is still human :)
I admit when I saw White Rooks on f1 & g1 that Ivanchuk was going to get smothered with no counterplay. He outplayed Kasparov. Fun game.
White made room for rook to come to g1.
King is also safer on h1.
05:27
nice bishop
Sve si ti Mato, lepo pokazao, ali nigde nisam video "killer move", tako da nisam hteo da maltretiram mozak za dzabe.
Does the Sicilian ever work?
+Locutus D'Borg I'm not sure who it was but a grandmaster once said: "In my opinion, the most beautiful chess trap is when I play e4 and my opponent responds with c5. Now I just have to play a perfect game to win.....". I mean seriously, what does everyone find so good in the Sicillian? I don't know what kind of myth made everyone believe that the Sicillian is GOD.....
+OlympiacosFan You have a long, long way to go, son.
You can checkmate with 2 bishops, but 2 knights can be pain in the @ss. Never forget the Legal checkmate!
the pain of sicilian is losing the pawn on d6 i think since kasparov play with knight on d7 after chheck with rossolimo attack and knight was pinned this is all the trouble
In a many games, Kasparov is usually safe with the king in the middle with Najdorf. He has won a lot of games this way.
wow a game of garry losing, brilliant game :)
5.30: opposing Rook (not bishop) on C1 ;-) Very hard to find Mato making a mystake
2 knight vs 2 bishops . Great game
How Many times has kasparov won the world chess championship?
Hola mato!
i find knights to be more bothersome positionally at holding yyou down but the knight is trixy and very tactical
9...gxf6 is OK
c5 is fantastic
Agreed - an excellent square clearance idea. The knight is so strong on c4...I think after Nc4, black's only way to make a fight of the game is to play Rxc4...
2 Knights won against Bishops - what a beauty!
This is the most impressive game of Ivanchuk that i've seen and he defeated Kasparov. Wow, I always thought that Ivanchuk is some kind of idiot, especially with his game against Caruana. I was wrong.

Knights are better than bishops.. they can protect each other.. and they are best pieaces on the board.. :)
not really, GMs and IMs likes bishops better.
Very nice open game... And good to know that even nowadays there is open chess at highest levels sometimes, not only boring positional maneuvering with only one goal (bore your enemy till he doesnt want to play anymore)
It's the Moscow variation, Mato ;-) Rossolimo is with Nc6.
true that
Saddest game ever, seeing a bishop pair lose to a knight pair. :(
