This video is a GODSEND! So many videos on the matter out there and most of them don't give you anything that isn't obvious. Thank you for making this!
Hi Mike, another great tutorial .I have the v5 custom cool it works really well I bought it after watching your review on it , will be getting another one for my next build . Keep up the good work 👍
Great video Mike...when i built dters pc i made rookies mistake of buying s/hand board without back plate. Bought cheap plastic one which didnt meet std cooler so literally bent mb so had to buy genuine back plate and all good. Would been same cost and easier to just buy new mb! You have covered all types of fasteners and for someone who only (re)builds occasionally this is a great tutorial to have in toolbox. Thanks for great content, stay safe everyone👍
Awesome video mate, lot of people come to me all the time; asking for ideas for the best methods to remove and also guidance on installation, this one will certainly be shared around. well documented n smooth flowed.
This video make me think how much easier it is working on servers, where you just order up a processor. Someone turned up in a white van in 2 hours and it comes with the heatsink already fitted and you just pop it in without having to fit at fan on top. This hobby PC building is just hard work!
Covered all the bases there Mike, most of the major kinds of connectors there. That Snowman one is awesome though, I still cant believe they are so cheap ! Thanks for sharing :-)
Wow, Mike's way of installing a CPU looks better then my way of just tossing the CPU at the motherboard from across the room as if I'm playing Corn Hole. 😂
I have a particularly bad one for you, Bob. At a linguist's funeral, a friend goes up to the widow. "Mind if I say a word?" She gives him a nod, "Please do." He looks into her eyes and says, "Plethora." She smiles and says, "Thanks. That means a lot."
When ever I install a Motherboard or cooler...I use an extra long Phillips or Cross Hatch screwdriver for the installation. Helps if the tip is also magnetized to hold the screw(s). The extra long shaft makes it easier to install the Motherboard or Cooler without having to angle the screwdriver tip which could possibly damage the screw head(s). Hope that helps.
Bought parts for a 5700G APU build. Thinking stock cooler should be fine for my needs, but certainly do not want to have to back and change the cooler later.
@@mikesunboxing Thanks Mike, Unfortunately I had installed the Wraith Stealth cooler using the AMD factory paste before seeing your message. Ever investigate replacing the wraith stealth fan? Although don't expect to push this machine during normal use, I am thinking there must be quieter fans.

Hi there Mike, complete newbie here. can one do the process above with the motherboard still in the case? Or would the motherboard have to be completely removed from the case to put in a new processor? I'm worried about the backplate issue. My PC is working great. But now i want to take out my Ryzen 5 5600G & replace it with a Ryzen 5 5600 {then obviously now put in a graphics card since i was always using integrated} Thanks for your advice.
Hi, may i ask what type of screw driver did you used to remove the amd cooler? I'm planning to put a thermal paste on my cpu but I can't unscrew the screws in the fan...
A real treatise in cooler installing! I have a hyper tx3 evo, which has a latch style, but I think it would apply a much stronger pressure than ryzen 2600 stock cooler. I still wonder if the backplate is rigid enough to prevent mobo bending, that tx3 is retired since my previous build and I didn't gathered courage enough to install it...
Thanks for such a nice and informative video. I saw some people change the stock cooler direction not to right/left but top/bottom. Can you please take a look at that and share it with us? Again, thanks a lot.
@@mikesunboxing thanks for the information. Although it would be more helpful for me if there was a short video on how to rotate the fan as I find that the fan's screw does not reach the holes. Rotating the fan seems difficult too as I am not a professional and a bit nervous too.
If you use a graphite pad instead of thermal paste to install a custom cooler, will it move into a position that does not touch the processor correctly when placing the new cooler in place since it is not stuck on the CPU or the cooler?
@@mikesunboxing This is an excellent installation video; however, there are idiots like me who require more than a couple of sentences on the removal of the current cooler b/c we've never attempted an upgrade before. it depends on the case dimensions and the processor type and the cooler you are thinking of getting. In general most coolers will fit the average ATX format case as that is the target market but don't always take that for granted
In the case specs, it will list the maxium CPU cooler height. My advice is to NOT get a CPU cooler that is at the same max height; give yourself some wiggle room and get one at least a few MMs less than the listed max CPU cooler height.
