Great work on the install. One thing to mention that seems to be a misconception on these compounded articulated locomotives is you will only hear one chuff set coming from the front set of cylinders. Because the steam is being compounded and used twice, the front set of cylinders is only exhausted to the nozzle in the smokebox. If you listen to videos of the 1309 or even the Skookum, this most definitely is the case. Not only that, but the chuff is very subdued unless the engine is working hard up grade or just starting out. Keep up the great work.

Very good video. I just aquired a Bachmann Mallet B&O Class KK at the train show. It had one of the issues that you described and I was able to correct the problem. Good factory sound and performance.

I have a very similar Bachmann and hopefully this will help me with the decoder install. Thank you.

The C&O 2-6-6-2 #1309 at Western Maryland Scenic is a class H-6. The USRA 2-6-6-2 was a class H-5 on the C&O. Nice conversion. Also, your comment about the problems with the Bachmann connectors may answer a problem I have with a C&O H-4 2-6-6-2 which runs fine except the front headlight doesn't work, but the tender light does.

Thank you for the video. I was looking for information about doing a sound install on on a Spectum 2-10-2. But as you explained since the tenders are pretty much identical and the wiring is the same, this a great instructional for my conversion. Your note about the 2 and 4 pin connectors is very helpful and will save me some time with the multi-meter. Beyond what you did, I may install an internal baffle between the coal bunker and water tank. That migh help to concentrate the sound even more. Also, I was wondering what size resistor you used for the LED. Out of the box, the performance is horribly sluggish. I think it might be due to the capacitors. As an experiment, I'm going to remove them to see if that improves performance.

I used 1k Ohm Resistors 1/4 Watt 5% for some of my other locomotives and probably for this one too. Glad I could help!

I have a pair of the 2-6-6-2s mine are c&o ones an H5 and the other is an H4 I’ve been thinking about sound fitting the pair and this was helpful also it would be beneficial on those to move the outlets under the cab and move it behind the cab on the spot where the drop plate is parallel to when it’s down I’ve been trying to figure out a way to do that on my models but it would keep the tethers out of the way of the draw bar

I agree! If the wires went straight out the back of the cab under the transfer plate instead of straight out the bottom the wires binding on the draw bar wouldn't be an issue!

@@FJX2000_Productions oh also not to be mean or nothing but you engine isn’t the same as 1309 the c&o classed 1309 and the other locomotives in its class as an H6 the H6s came about because crews weren’t a huge fan of the H5s witch were made to be mass producible for WWll and the H5 was based off the H4 witch came before it and was originally a c&o design I don’t know what the nickel plate road classed there 2-6-6-2s I haven’t looked that far into the usra 2-6-6-2 yet

I have a spectrum 2-10-0 that I custom fitted with a TCS WOWsound decoder. I am having trouble with getting the chuffing to sync up with the wheel rotation. I don’t have any chuff cams. Does anyone have any suggestions? The locomotive runs good, and the lights all work, but I just have problems with getting the chuffing to sync up with the drive wheel rotation.

This model of the decoder (TSU-2200) may be too big, but perhaps the TSU-1100 would work?

I find it funny that nobody talks about the water that the Cole tender carries as well as the Cole? Think the back half of the Cole car carries water…?

Should have used a scale sound systems speaker

Pull that plastic coal and put mesh and real coal on it
