I saw them around this time. They were cool, dangerous, sexy, fun. And that's just Cait. Plus Shane could really sing. Pretty soon it went down hill. All the OGWT clips are a reminder of what a great band they were and not just a good time drunken sing along.
I've seen this band four times. In Hanley, Nottingham, and twice in Wolverhampton. They were incredible! Each time the audience were so excited, and pissed, that things were kicking off. In Hanley, the fire exits and corridors were blocked by sleeping kids that had maybe started abit too early. I had no shirt when I got on the train home from Wolverhampton. It didn't matter. I've seen The Stranglers a few times, Stiff Little Fingers, Sham 69 , Selector , Big Country , The Alarm, and they were all great, but these guys were something else! Pogue Mahone!
I saw them at Leeds Uni very early on,(1984 I think), the barman refused to give Spider a tray before the gig as "I gave you one last time you played here and I never got it back" :)
When Bob Dylan the greatest songwriter of words popular music has seen (McCartney wins on melody) respects you and your drunk and drugged and depressed and you still achieve all he did in 4 years! Just wish we could of seen what he could of relatively sober and clean line here when he done all his best work. Once he became dependent he ne er wrote another good song or sang properly again or even smiles. People forvet how energetic and cheeky, witty and cocky he was at first..and shy
