Pleas do not minimize this degenerative disk disease. I have went from a very muscular strong independent man before this absolutley wrecked my life. 2.5 years later and 17 doctors telling me they see nothing...until I was diagnosed with stage 3 ddd. My life as I knew it is over. No more trsveling rhe country or picking up my grandson we are raising. No more road trips no more playing the drums or even no more washing my own feet in the shower...please do not minimize this as this is exactly what ruined my life. I was fully functional when I went to see doctors. Due to their dismissal of my symptoms, including genetal pain, I was labeled a drug seeker in my area and have had NO pain meds to at least help with the emence crippling unbearable pain. 10 months later Im in the ER with pain. They suspected Cauda Equina my pain was so bad and crippling. Please do not say it is common. Do I sound like a common person anymore? Thank you

I didn’t mean to minimize anyone’s pain and I apologize if you came away with that understanding. I was trying to articulate that the radiography of degenerative disc disease is not unique or in and of itself diagnostic of a pain. That is, it’s very common even in people without pain. And with that said, many people have very severe and crippling pain precisely from their discs and that’s a terrible thing and clearly needs to be treated and empathized with. Both are true at the same time. And so I’m very sorry that you are going through so much pain. If the pain is diagnosed as being purely from the discs, it’s worth noting and emphasizing that that kind of pain should be treatable and so it may be worth getting another opinion for your pain. It may be that the pain has more than one pain generator and that can get more complicated. In any event, I can’t give any individual medical advice on this type of forum and you didn’t ask for any. I just wanted to say that I definitely didn’t mean to minimize your or anyone else’s pain and so I am sorry if that is what you took from it. I wish you all the best.

And now I just realized that this comment was made to my short video. I think if you go to the full video that I did then you will get the full context.

@@PrincetonSpineJointCenterDon’t take it personal the problem is within the medical field pain is being minimized. I’m an intractable pain patient that survived the opioid epidemic I can’t tell you what doctors put me through taking me off and denying meds that give me some quality of life. Pain patients should be protected instead we were tossed to the curb while those that abused the system were treated for opioid treatment disorder with the very same meds. It’s a very messed up situation especially for pain patients I’m just thankful I finally found a good doc. I’d encourage you to look into the number of pain patient suicide we already had a 50% higher risk than the general public and this pushed many past what they could handle.

I read a comment below that closely echos my situation my low back started 2 years ago progressively got worse before an mri confirmed severe DDD, I Can't sit very long or stand very long walking long distance is out working out again hasn't been approved yet but will be radically different I can't lift anything above 25 lbs , I'm in physical therapy ( pool ) which helps a little but my life if going to be very different moving forward , I also have bulging disc's l1 to l 5 - I don't sleep well , I've tried all the tricks even went keto lost 50 lbs nothing seems to help , my doc thinks surgury is an option but it could make things worse , so I agree don't minimize this , for many many people this is a nightmare

I am 23 and have DDD as well as l1-l2 fractures. I live with the pain every day and it takes a deep mental toll as well as physical. I get sharp pains in my groin area which I thought was a hernia for months. Many test and scans later they found a problem with my lower back and a full scan showed the fractures and misalignment of my spine. I also have kyphosis in my upper spine. My back is already starting to make an “S” shape and like I mentioned before I am only 23. I could not imagine having to live the rest of my life like this. It truly puts a weight on my minds for my entire future.

I found out at 18 when my back went out playing soccer. Nothing has happened in 17 years. I'm 35 now and was jogging to the car yesterday and it happened again. Excruciating pain that comes and goes. Hopefully it will go away again
