cheers, its a good idea to use old versions of the standalone player to avoid possible adobe introduced bugs; i'd say 10.3-11-12 is good enough.

@@yy6u Absolutely. Unfortunately, college is getting pretty intense and I want the sequels to be better than this video. I'm working on this as much as I can, but it'll take a while. Sorry about that. Oh, and for Flash Player, I'd rather err on the side of caution and use the latest version as the older ones are definitely not secure.

I was so excited to see some of my favourite old nitrome plateformers from back in the day and only a little salty that you hated them :( square meal, toxic, and snowdrift were all great as a child (although I admit I haven't played any of them since the early 2000s) still listen to all the music though (also while I agree that twang wasn't anything special gameplay wise I have always been a huge fan of the music) Also, I played square meal, skywire 2, and all the later 2 player games (twin shot, double edged, etc) with a sibling and can confirm that they are all even better when playing with someone else

I can relate to your intro as well, Flash Games were my bread and butter until I shared a GBA SP with my siblings and then got my own DS later on! Even then, I'd be looking to see if there were any new Nitrome games every week or so! It was nostalgic to see a lot of these games again, but yeah, Nanobots is a huge pain. 52:20 That there was a common issue with flash. It didn't receive events outside the frame of the flash element, so unless a game specifically looked for when the mouse leaves the frame it would never know that you stopped holding the mouse button. I think Unity got around that by making it so games can capture the mouse button, preventing it from leaving the frame, but it was a stop-gap solution if any.

One thing I'd like to say is that I'd like to hear your thoughts on the music in these games in addition to the other elements; the music in some of their earlier games isn't terribly notable but their later games definitely have music that ought to be talked about.

Sometimes simplicity is what makes a game lovely. I adored Skywire (all) (music, sounds, simplicity), Thin Ice (perfect music, simplicity), Knuckleheads (gameplay), Off the rails (musiiiiic), Jack Frost (the feel of making ALL the blocks of ice :D), Yinyang (sounds), Thwang (that ftaaang sound), Cheese dreams, and many others - which means the company really did a good job - and still, 15 years after I looove them! - and I must say, their visual identity and music was also something that attracted me a looooot! And still attracts me - I would make them as instrumentals to listen to

Good vid, and you're welcome for watching in its entirety.
Kept making slight comparisons of my own to games I've played while watching.
For Play -- Basically Connect 4 like mentioned.
Hot Air -- About as original as it get s from what I can see, what with how unique controls are.
Sandman -- Frustrating version of the Lemmings; Not even Kaizo, just overall... time-wasting Lemmings.
Chick Flick -- Anybody remember the "Fire" game from Game & Watch? A unique spin on that.. or you can loosely say Brick Breaker / Javanoid games.
Roly Poly -- Those little small maze things you used to get when you were younger, maybe from McDonalds where you had a small ball and had to rotate it to get it in the middle. Kinda like that.
Feed Me -- Umihara Kawase games or even before that, Bionic Commando are what come to mind looking at this game. Neat.
Gift Wrapped -- Mentioned like the Mario 64 DS game but I know it from what inspired that one: "Where's Waldo?"
Scribble -- Better Lemmings. In fact, you could say Lemmings meets Kirby: Canvas Curse. The environmental destruction feels very Worms-esque as well.
Frostbite -- Same as Feed Me that it reminded of Umihara Kawase or Bionic Commando -- more so the latter this time. Between the two games however, this feels WAY more like it.
Tanked Up -- Micro Machines (NES) with a battle mechanic twist that might make F-Zero liable to cry.
Magic Touch -- Makes me think of Educational games. I would say also Bubble Bobble, but that's SUPER loosely...
Skywire -- Another full on original to me, very interesting. Though it's usually physics based games that really shineee.
Space Hopper -- Yeah, Super Mario Odyssey is on point. Only other relation is those rotating things you might play with too much in Scrap Brain Zone of Sonic 1. (Think they had those, maybe I'm thinking too much Metallic Madness from Sonic CD?)
Grief Hunt Air 2 -- It's like a Lost Levels version xD Do love the Super Mario Bros. 3 inspired looking level screen.
Square Meal -- One of the few times that it looks familiar but can't put my finger on it. (Also don't blame for nearly falling asleep on it)
Toxic -- Makes me think of Pocket Bomberman, old Game Boy game. However, Pocket Bomberman had only one bomb type, bombs can be placed in the air and used as platforms, etc. Different from this game here.
Yin Yang -- The black and white conceptI've seen in an versus indie game before but not used as a puzzle game... interesting.
Nanobots -- Looks like an expanded Asteroids but given your commentary, expanded in the wrong direction..
The Rails -- Reminds me of the small mini-game in Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (but WAYY more better looking and fleshed out) or Mario Party's Handcar Havoc minigame but 2D. Nice looking
Head Case -- Kinda flipping VVVVVV on its head, haha. However, I think the game fails from not being as fast as VVVVVV.
Pest Control -- Like mentioned in video, Mario Paint's fly swapping minigame expanded.
Twink -- Wow. This one is pretty cool, Kirby: Canvas Curse mixed with Angry Birds going a bit there but that's just scraping the surface what with the rubberbands around. The physics based games are always a delight to look at.
Thin Ice -- Actually pretty neat and different. If Dig Dug 2 (yes, there's a Dig Dug 2) was less stiff and actually used 360 movement instead of 4 way movement, then I could see this.
Snowdrift -- Super Mario Bros. 3 , that's it. Sonic games got brought up as well so that too if they fused the sliding part and slow platforming into one -- but definitely more SMB3 to me.
Jack Frost -- Looks like a more tedious version of Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle... and yes Splatoon before Splatoon didn't think of that. Or the Graffiti game mode in Tony Hawk Pro Skater games.
Aquanaut -- Like mentioned, just like their Hot Air games. The way you hop out of water can't help me wish it was more Ecco the Dolphin.
Go Go UFO -- Movement mechanic is different but reminds me of the tightly packed levels in Crash Bash's racing games (Dot Dash, Toxic Dash, etc.).
The Fortress of Steam -- First platformer that made me feel like I'm looking at a Metroid game. Just imagine going through Super Metroid (SNES) with rarely unequipping the Grappling Hook, heh. Though that's a loose thing to say since using the Grappling Hook as a weapon in Super Metroid absolutely sucked while this looks much fluid and well suited.
Magna Boy -- Wow, not exact-exact but the way you move can sometimes make me feel like slipping on Ice in Chip's Challenge.
Cheese Dreams -- familiar looking but can't put finger on it. Not like if you just kept the Ball Ability in some Kirby games, but something else..
Snot Put -- Feels like every fourth flash game ever xD A good ol' game of... well.. Shot Put, yeah.
Knuckleheads -- Another neat looking game to me.
Sky Wire 2 -- See Sky Wire 1.
Small Fry -- neat, like the games mentioned that it reminds of Scribble and Sandman, but the way the drag and drop happens just now reminds me of Scribblenauts (Unlimited).

I first played Feed Me on Miniclip back in 2006, but didn't know it was only a recent addition at the time. But yeah, despite its highs and lows and not playing every single game, I've had fond memories playing these games. I just wish there was more special types of games for PC and consoles, so I wouldn't have to rely on the mobile market to look at their newer games. Though that's probably due to my lack of knowledge of said titles, since like I previously said: I didn't know about or play all of their games.

About that... I definitely know Flash will reach end-of-life at the end of the year and if you're worried about that killing off the other parts, rest assured that I have a plan regarding that. I'll give more details in an upcoming update video, but trust me, I wouldn't make a 4-part series that depends on a dying plugin without some kind of plan B.

@@SuperclassYT Ok I'll wait. Nitrome's games are not on the Flashpoint. And their html5 project is really slow

20:22 (magic touch) - wow, this one actually looks interesting and stands a little out
    - i mean, mechanically
    - can see how tedious and obnoxious the gameplay would be

I have thought about doing something like this for a long time. Do you think there is a flash game market on twitch?

    • @SuperclassYT
      @SuperclassYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Considering that for all intents and purposes Flash games are "retro" your audience would either be people who feel nostalgic about them (like me!) or people who are curious to see what these games are like. I'd say give it a shot and see what happens. You might just find a niche! Although keep in mind that you'll probably have to use Flashpoint or do something else after Flash Player reaches end-of-life at the end of the year.
