I like the Allstar node, and GMRS node in the truck! And the redundant battery (& charger) is a great idea! Nothing kills a car battery faster than a Ham radio! They seem to draw power, even when off. Another idea, is a 2nd, Deep cycle battery, under the hood (if there is room?), connected via a battery isolator. And run all the secondary electronics off of it!
Would love to figure out allstar one of these days. Do not know anybody near me which would help me learn what I need and how to make it work . Maybe one day
Wow that’s a lot going on. But a cool setup. I use mine with a mobile hotspot and just an HT. I don’t have a need to port forward for incoming connections so it works great for me. Small footprint and tucks neatly behind my seat. Was going to attach a picture but it wouldn’t let me. Love your channel!!!!
If I could afford a 100AH battery I'd make it fit! Time to move your switches to the front so you don't have to go into the back seat to control stuff. And I'm sure there is a WD40 and Ram joke in there somewhere.
First off awesome job on the content. You’re videos have helped me immensely. My question is about your allstar mobile node. I use my cellphone as an hotspot and I setup my mobile node that way. I know you have to forward ports to allow incoming connections. Is there an easy way when using a mobile hotspot connection to allow incoming connections to the node? What is your work around for forwarding the mobile hotspot port is really what I would like to know? My node works awesome in the mobile for outgoing connections,incoming not so much 😅Thanks I really enjoy the videos 🤙
Well The Netgear NighHawk AP I am using allows for the Port Forwarding, BUT CellPhone Hotspots do not to my knowledge. You will always be able to make an outgoing connection but not incoming. I can get incoming connections on mine, because of the port forwarding. If I find a workaround I will surely let you know. Thank You for the kind words 73 DE KD5FMU
@@HamRadioCrusader It looked like those radios were blocking the field of vision, but maybe that was due to the camera angle. I have a Yaesu FT-5DR and an SharkRF OpenSpot4 Pro for the YSF digital modes. I also setup the XLX941 Reflector on a Linode Cloud Debian 11 computer. I've noticed that the XLX941 Reflector, and other XLX Reflectors don't have anywhere as good audio quality as the AmericaLink Reflector for digital voice. I don't know what AmericaLink is doing to get better sounding digital audio. It still doesn't sound as good as analog FM, but it sounds better than the other digital Reflectors. I'm thinking about getting setup for AllStar because AllStar is going to sound better than the digital radio, even the AmericaLInk Reflector. I've heard that AllStar sound better than EchoLInk too. I thought about getting the Shari / Rasberry Pi3 or Pi4 that is already assembled and tested. They offer VHF and UHF versions. I have a Motorola GP-68 portable transceiver that would probably work pretty well with that AllStar setup. I also plan to build an AllStarLInk hub, the equivalent of the XLX941 Reflector that I build, but for AllStarLink and analog FM.
so you have to have the netgear mobile hotspot to get the radio on the echo link or Allstar setup??? So that cost you like a cell service so much a month>? How much does that cost?

It’s wireless internet for the node yes. About $45 bucks a month from FirstNet/AT&T
And you don’t have to use this service. Some folks use thier hotspot on their existing phone. But you will only be able to connect outbound.
