I have been saying this as well for more than a year. Big12 brethren may not like this and say as a Houston Alum I am still stung by not having my Alma Mater in the Big12 at the creation of the conference; but the ACC will do exactly like Big12 and not drop below 10 members let alone lifeline like the Big12 did and add from Non-Autonomy colleges and the last two remnants of the defunct PAC and have the numbers and votes to maintain Autonomy status and like Bigger12, get a better media deal than previously with the two to six disgruntled and disenfranchised and disassociated schools that desire but not deserve to leave for BiG10 or SEC or Jupiter or Saturn or wherever the hell they feel like they belong 😅😊😅😂😂.!.

Couldnt be farther from the truth. Football is NOT king. MARKETS are king. SEC already has the Florida and South Carolina markets with UF and SC. Charlotte would be a coveted market. So would UVA with Norfolk and VA Beach. Dont take my word for it. ESPN knows they can make more money with matchups like Clemson vs Bama or Florida St vs Georgia. UVA vs Vanderbilt will not draw eyeballs. UVA can’t fill a stadium. Clemson has played at Chapel Hill and had as many Clemson fans there as Tar Heels. NC State and. Va Tech actually have the best fan support.

If markets were the king, why did the B1G take Oregon over either Stanford or Cal? Washington is in a large market, so that is expected, but still not the size of the Bay Area tv market. Same can be said about ASU. They sit in Phoenix, another huge tv market. How about Oklahoma to the SEC, not exactly a huge tv market, similar to Portland. There are other large markets out there that have been passed over.
It’s about tv ratings and who brings in the largest audience. The proof is in the pudding. They are grabbing the largest name brand teams because they draw the largest tv audience. It’s simple economics.

As a long time Utah fan my opinion is this. Utah has always been the little brother of byu in football. They weren’t really good until urban Meyer came and busted the bcs. Utah has only been a football school for 25 years. They have always been in a small conference. When the pac 10 called we felt like Cinderella being swept off our feet by a handsome prince lol. We finally overcame byu dominance. We were in a major conference and they weren’t. Utah was always going to be loyal to the pac 12. They didn’t want to leave. The only trepidation about joint the big 12 was that byu was there and we no longer had bragging rights. I am honestly happy to be in the big 12 over the big10 or anywhere else. The big 12 looks like the most competitive and evenly balanced conference. USC and ucla are going to suck for a long time in the big10 they weren’t even dominating in the pac12 they are going to get smashed in the big10. I think Utah is going to have a down year as they get adjusted to the new scenery. As long as they beat byu I will be happy. Go Utes.

My reply to @Chevy265V8 disappeared...so in a nutshell OSU's numbers were low because they played a lot of games on the Pac-12 Network and got zeros counted for those games. The Beavers were ranked in the second half of 2022 and that carried over to 2023 and they had nine counting games on regular networks and got the much higher numbers because they were ranked for pretty much the whole season and played several other ranked teams. But the 1.48 million views for the OSU-WSU game is very telling. Not saying they are elite but they have proven that they are capable of very good numbers if they play on regular networks.

Then when 3-6 schools bolt out of ACC to the BiG10 and SEC respectively, you will have no less than 21 full members playing football and 22 Olympic schools and a possible max if only 3 leave ACC of 24 full members playing football and 25 Olympic schools. If 6 leave, then could look at two MWC schools (not Bozo Horse Humping State “Boise State “) in San Diego State and either Nevada (NOT UNLV!) or Colorado State or Wyoming. The ACC doesn’t have them as a priority either, the ACC needs to stabilize and survive by not allowing the BIG12 to poach the upper/middle tier schools within (who knows what will happen).
If the ACC decides to expand, they have better options with other G5 teams that bring bigger markets on the east coast like UCONN, Memphis, and USF.
If the ACC decides to expand westward, they have better options in markets like UNLV and San Diego State. @@Chevy265V8- Houston is a bigger brand than Oregon State?

@@Chevy265V8 Yes, but Oregon State had lower numbers because they played on the Pac-12 Network so much and got zeros for those games. And yes, those zeros are counted. The Beavers went 10-3 in 2022 and was ranked for the second half of the season. That carried over to 2023 and OSU had nine "counting" games on regular networks. The Beavers stayed ranked for pretty much the whole season and played several ranked teams. I'm not saying OSU and WSU are elite or that they are going to get great views playing MWC teams on the CW, but that 1.48 million number is pretty telling and they are definitely capable of good numbers given the chance to play games on regular networks. OSU definitely proved that in 2023.
