I really appreciate the t-shank saw blade mount. You can replace the blade whenever you need. Thats one of the most important features within the Surge in my case. Big thanks to Leatherman for this.
Definitely!
I do have a surge, don't carry it, and I do not know why I even bought it. Leatherman should offer custom build tools for the folks that are never happy.
Yeah I just have to make my own and so do many other guys customize things to work better for us, multitools are more difficult to work on due to the not very forgiving tolerances and having to be made so compact
Love my Surge been carrying it 9 years in my pocket. Use every single thing on that tool and saves me every day, love it, wouldn't change a thing. Only thing that broke after a ton of abuse was the tention pin of the pliers and I got that changed.
Thank for the video. As for me, Surge got everything it needs and updating its bit holder for something else not a great idea since there are bunch of adapters on markets. T-shank scalpel holder is the great example of this.
Is there a scalpel that fits into the LM Surge's standard T-shank adapter?
I bought the bibury since I sent my surge for repair. And let me tell that it feels quite nice. The scissors cut very well. Even better than the surge. The wire cutter cuts as well. It came with two blades, replaceable cutters and bits. Let's see how it holds up.
Victorinox Spirit X, no mods necessary. A multitool is like a first aid kit - quick access to a few tools for quick projects. Neither are meant to be, or replace, a full tool box or a hospital. 🤷🏻♂️
Plus, multitools that do not allow access to all their gadgets without opening the pliers are so 20th Century when we are now in the 3rd decade of the 21st.
Awesome mods can't believe it's taken so long for someone to make one
Thanks!!
Great find! I haven’t experimented much with the Ali express mods, but I did just order a similar 3D printed bit driver to try out on my wave (from metropolicity via shapeways) Can’t wait to try it out!
Oh and thanks for the shoutout! I’m trying to figure out a way to minimize the hotspot on the slim picks for the next iteration. Obviously it’s a balance between keeping it accessible and keeping it out of the way, but I definitely appreciate the feedback on that!
@@zachlyndeYT Thanks for giving more options to people in the multi-tool world with your store! That bit driver you are getting sounds cool!
I hope these mods get ported over to the GOAT tool 😁
Nice mod. My surge scissors are still broken, but I like what you did there. Nice job
Thanks! I like it.
👍🏼Whoa good timing with my post earlier. :) Goat doesn’t lock sideways but came in handy. Love the t-shank. Hope goat offers that some time soon.
That would be great if GOAT would offer some cool additions. I'm interested to see what modules GOAT meant when they mentioned it in the email they sent you!
@@hvacbudget8600 yep🤞🏻
At $45 I’ll have to pass. If I’m carrying That bit holder I may as well go with the Steelman, which gives me the driver as well. But I appreciate your videos.
thats more than the daicamping DL30, im using an angle ground bit extender, $45 is way too expensive
Thanks for watching! Makes sense.
Security torx.
For me, the Surge would be improved with better scissors, and a package opener. The scalpel is great, but I am not willing to sacrifice the other outside tools. Generally, I don't like removable parts. I'd rather keep the bit driver separate.
Nice find, but it's 45$, which is like 1.5x as much as DL30 multitool, which has much better bit holder already included ;)
Nah.
Ur shits wack af
cheers mate.
Thanks!
good video.
Just curious. It seems like your decision to go back to the surge was largely due to the normal 1/4 inch bit driver mod. So what do you have against the leatherman bit driver that comes with the Surge in the first place? I know people have their preferences but it sounds like you had previously given up on the Surge until this mod came out. So you must have REALLY felt that the Leatherman driver was just not an option...
I do commercial HVAC work. So Leatherman's bits just seem to flimsy for what I'm working with. I also use the 1/4" driver as a nut driver as well. I know I can pack kits with adapters that will turn the Leatherman bit driver into a 1/4" driver, it just seems like a hassle. For EDC carry at home or around town Leatherman bits are fine but not so much at work for me.
Also an HVAC tech, for me those tiny 1/4 bits are not any help trying to use them in the field.
I keep a Milwaukee fastback box knife with a bit driver in it. If the surge had that built into the tool that would be a dream.
Definitely!! That's why the Daicamping DL30 is so cool!!
@@hvacbudget8600 it’s on my list now
I saw some guy modded his Surge and wave and put gerber's center drive arm as an outside tool
Looks way too shallow to hold normal bits well... i really dig the 3rd party parts. Leatherman is really missing out on upgrade kits for their outdated designs.
It definitely isn't perfect. I agree Leatherman could sell a lot of parts like this!
But why buy the surge (which I have and love) plus the adapter, getting to almost $200? You could get FOUR of the Bibury or Daicamp pliers with the same tool layout for the same price. Is there something about the quality of the Surge that it worth four of the others?
Some would say yes, some no. I like options either way.
Wave Plus rules
Can you fit wiha double sided bits in there?
No, unfortunately it is too shallow.
So, that bit holder would fit the SuperTool 300 as well, right?
I believe it should but I haven't tried it.
Can the can opener be exchange with one of the tool in the other side?
I believe so, yes.
Does this fit the wave+?
@@babyg6934 No. They have one designed for the wave though.
Do you have a link for that aluminium bit holder from ali?
Unfortunately it was discontinued.
Link for the knock off bit holder?
Well I looked online and the item has disappeared from Aliexpress! It seems the closest alternative right now is this Steelman - amzn.to/3tnRUZo
how did you add a t shank scalpel tool?

Thank you so much!
Im surprised no company has made a multi-tool that has a foldout mini flashlight that uses AAA battery along with a pullout firesteel that has small built in compass on the end of the firesteel handle. I would much rather have those features even if it means the multi-tool would not have scissors or an awl ,etc because IMHO, those 2 features can be accomplished with the knife.
There are multitools with firesteels 💪🏽🔥 but a good compass is worth carrying next to it 🙌🏾
Sorry but just too Expensive, Have just purchased a B\BURY for £50 to replace my Leatherman Wave which was Stolen out of my car.
Wow! That's not good.
The price is just plain offensive....
I wish I could just buy the Daicamping driver as an individual part !!
Using the Surge as a wobbly ratchet handle is flawed & just plain silly.
Just make the real handle longer & hinged !
Overpriced as hell for a lackluster poor design. I'll pass even though the idea is good, it fails on execution and price.
LAME-ass Leatherman should be doing such innovations themselves. They just cannot compete.
