You missed one of the glaring issues with the new beast master, your beast attacks now use your wisdom modifier instead of your proficiency. So, in a sense this is the druidic warrior subclass where you pick up Sheilagh and a ranged cantrip, then cast support spells on your beast with an action and cast cantrips on rest of your turns. And if you need a bonus action spell, you can still give up an attack to command it. Also, you have paladins who now get two-weapon fighting style and the new divine favor which adds a d4 on all attacks against any target without concentration. And vengeance still gets hunter's mark as a spell. Finally, I know he said you would stealth up and cast it before combat but don't forget the stealth check for the vocal component of the spell.

Great catches and extra info! Do you feel they did enough to Rangers to make them fun to play?

@@rpgbtv Numerically it's better, but now any flavor is trapped behind the subclasses. Like you guys mentioned it doesn't meet the image they said of a class that ranges. Where is the feature to allow them to ignore difficult terrain and at later levels magical terrain.

For me, Rangers are alright, but I feel like they could have kept some features like the Spells from Tasha's or made HM not require concentration (at all or at lower levels) and the Capstone felt weak. It's not a bad spell per se, but with quite a bit of spells still requiring that concentration, I feel like rangers '24 is built around HM. And although rangers could have kept some (more) of the 2014 or Xanathar's features, it's not a bad class. But it does feel more of a "joke" class but it's still solid. I really hope that rangers do get a great update if they drop a 2024 xanathars or 2024 Tasha's.

But consider the balance from what Rangers got, or didn't get, to all the other classes in 2024. It just doesn't feel like enough was given. I could easily make a case that Monks, Rogues, and Bards are even more OP than before. It would've been nice to see the Ranger be up there with them.

2:45 LOL don't forget valor bards, but yea I think the best build for them is a STRanger or some troll gloom stalker not really participating and just egging the GM on to cast light in the area. I don't think anything else stands out versus say ArchFey Warlock, Echo Knight, OoV Paladin with a steed, etc. And then STRanger looks bad compared to just going Paladin. Ranger players are left with... gloom trolling with umbral sight.

@@CovertGhoul Who needs a valor bards when you can dance fight! 😂 I'm curious to see how Rangers get changed and updated by the community. Or what homebrew Rangers will come out of this to be comparable to the other class upgrades.

But yea, Fey Wanderer TWF Ranger/GWM Ranger is weaker than an Archfey Gish/Echo Fighter (not comparable). Gloom is gimicky, but stealth is way worse, and the 2-3 uses of your 1 damage power per long rest, is bad. Beastmaster is ok, but I'd rather play a OoV Paladin with Conjure Steed, and be insanely better. So, we are left with the Hunter which is.... trassshhhyyy. So yea, I think Rangers might be the worst class. I think I'd rather play an Arcane Tricker and have lvl 4 wizard spells, etc, than whatever Ranger combo people end up with. Being reliant on Concentration/Bonus action starved, and then even in PEAK scenarios, the damage falling off dramatically after level 4, seems... like a class that isn't worth touching with a 10 foot pole.
