Monk is the class I've heard most people regret playing in 5th edition. Anybody diving in with a 2024 Monk in a new campaign?
🤦♂️ some people just don't know how to raise children.
seriously, i cant believe they would risk letting them outside on their own if intimidating beasts like that are present
@@trinityy-7 what? Sure, kid. Pop off I guess 😂
"Did you start the riot?" No, YOU DID! [NAT 20] "why... why would i do that?!?" ;<;
The dog is like " okay, child is freaking out... what do I do???"
"I need to help calm this child down..."
It was sooooo great to play with The Faint Divinities!
Loved this game!!!
Excited for people's reactions! What are we predicting for part two?
That child has either been attacked before or has been told things about dogs that are psychotic.
There is also the possibility the dog was simply there as he was fleeing something else, or he has been threatened to not approach the dog and now the dog is following him.
If that was my kid, 2 things could happen, either he goes up for adoption, or I'm killing myself.
Yup. Got scared halfway to death by an out-of-nowhere no leash dog when I was about 3 y.o. Been deathly afraid of a smallest little puppy up to the age of ~25 ever since.
I've been attacked by a dog. Had part of my arm ripped open when I was 11. I not only fought to keep the dog alive after but went back and played with the dog after my arm healed. Whatever going on here is irrational a parent deffiently traumatized the kid not a dog
When I was younger, I used to be scared of dogs for literally no reason. I wasn’t this scared, but it is fairly reasonable that the child may have a phobia.
Nat 20s for skill checks. I see we are using house rules.
Our Barbarian has -2 to Intimidation. Our Bard has +9.
"Do as I say, or I'll play Bardcore Wonderwall on repeat!" "Oh GOD, please no! I'll do anything! ANYTHING!"
Only if you have a shitty or an amusing DM
Me, every time a player uses a build they got from reddit
Yup
Drinking competitions at the tavern are the best!
Brutal! My man needs him some skill mastery
Major fumble!
I think you should use both the updated and previous Divine Interventions; either cast a spell instantly for free, or roll the percentile dice and do it the old way
3:55 I think of it like your god grants you your powers at level 1 for your devotion to them, and your level 1-3 experiences and actions you’ve taken decide which Domain of their power they decide to grant you
If you cast Power Word Kill with the gift of dance, wouldn't that make it Power Word Slay.
But yea, Fey Wanderer TWF Ranger/GWM Ranger is weaker than an Archfey Gish/Echo Fighter (not comparable). Gloom is gimicky, but stealth is way worse, and the 2-3 uses of your 1 damage power per long rest, is bad. Beastmaster is ok, but I'd rather play a OoV Paladin with Conjure Steed, and be insanely better. So, we are left with the Hunter which is.... trassshhhyyy. So yea, I think Rangers might be the worst class. I think I'd rather play an Arcane Tricker and have lvl 4 wizard spells, etc, than whatever Ranger combo people end up with. Being reliant on Concentration/Bonus action starved, and then even in PEAK scenarios, the damage falling off dramatically after level 4, seems... like a class that isn't worth touching with a 10 foot pole.
2:45 LOL don't forget valor bards, but yea I think the best build for them is a STRanger or some troll gloom stalker not really participating and just egging the GM on to cast light in the area. I don't think anything else stands out versus say ArchFey Warlock, Echo Knight, OoV Paladin with a steed, etc. And then STRanger looks bad compared to just going Paladin. Ranger players are left with... gloom trolling with umbral sight.
@@CovertGhoul Who needs a valor bards when you can dance fight! 😂 I'm curious to see how Rangers get changed and updated by the community. Or what homebrew Rangers will come out of this to be comparable to the other class upgrades.
Concentration was removed from most of the smite spells, but they also got other improvements. As a result though I believe most, if not all, smite spells can only be cast on a weapon hit.
You can't stack Smites. All of them are 'spend a Bonus Action after hitting', so only one per attack. You can buff with other stuff like Divine Favor in advance, but not Smites.
Wizards Power Word Kill, Bards Power Ballad Kill?
Never played the Assassin, so cant really comment. Thoght the Soul Knife was overpowered before. The Thief is i think a little underpowered, but at least you can use acrobatics to jump, and a climb speed is nothing to sneeze at. I liked the school limits on Arcane Trickster and would have liked to see them more restrictive, but maybe one more numbered slot.
I wonder what part of D&D 2024 they were talking about?
I think y'all focused WAY too hard on the nerf to divine smite to really appreciate that paladin's overall got a lot of good going for them now. universally for martials, they have weapon masteries, spellcasting is gotten at lvl 1 now, lay on hands is a BA and also has much more use, they get all the fighting styles of fighters while still having the bless warrior option to get 2 cleric cantrips, they get more than one use of channel divinity, a few of the subclasses got major bonuses, and radiant strikes apply to unarmed strikes now. Overall, paladins imo got some huge bonuses and feels much better now. Divine smite's nerf is unfortunate, but it was definitely necessary to me, so that they don't burn through all their slots so quickly. The only thing is that I hate it being a spell, it should've stayed as an innate paladin ability. Maybe it should've only had the words "once per turn" included somewhere, or maybe it is better as a bonus action, I'm not sure, but it being a spell ruins the flavor for me and I think I'll change that for whatever paladin I run in the future.
Yeah, Divine Favor is also a big buff that's worth bearing in mind at least at low levels. No Concentration and +1d4 damage on all attacks is good. Like...their DPR is actually amazing if they get time to buff, and not bad even if they don't. Some of the Smite Spells are also really good. Searing Smite can do 22d6 damage as a 5th level Paladin in theory...in practice, it's less than that, but 6d6 isn't gonna be super rare, and 8d6 will happen sometimes. To say nothing of Thunderous Smite knocking people prone and sending them flying back 10 feet. There's some really good stuff.
For me, Rangers are alright, but I feel like they could have kept some features like the Spells from Tasha's or made HM not require concentration (at all or at lower levels) and the Capstone felt weak. It's not a bad spell per se, but with quite a bit of spells still requiring that concentration, I feel like rangers '24 is built around HM. And although rangers could have kept some (more) of the 2014 or Xanathar's features, it's not a bad class. But it does feel more of a "joke" class but it's still solid. I really hope that rangers do get a great update if they drop a 2024 xanathars or 2024 Tasha's.
But consider the balance from what Rangers got, or didn't get, to all the other classes in 2024. It just doesn't feel like enough was given. I could easily make a case that Monks, Rogues, and Bards are even more OP than before. It would've been nice to see the Ranger be up there with them.
The Ranger class has no good features that deal with the exploration pillar of D&D anymore, it's such a shame! Their Level 2 feature Deft Explorer has nothing to do with exploring. It gives you 2 languages and an expertise! We don't care about languages, give us something worth while. We're no better at exploring than the bard is! And even then, the bard is probably better!
You missed one of the glaring issues with the new beast master, your beast attacks now use your wisdom modifier instead of your proficiency. So, in a sense this is the druidic warrior subclass where you pick up Sheilagh and a ranged cantrip, then cast support spells on your beast with an action and cast cantrips on rest of your turns. And if you need a bonus action spell, you can still give up an attack to command it. Also, you have paladins who now get two-weapon fighting style and the new divine favor which adds a d4 on all attacks against any target without concentration. And vengeance still gets hunter's mark as a spell. Finally, I know he said you would stealth up and cast it before combat but don't forget the stealth check for the vocal component of the spell.
Great catches and extra info! Do you feel they did enough to Rangers to make them fun to play?
@@rpgbtv Numerically it's better, but now any flavor is trapped behind the subclasses. Like you guys mentioned it doesn't meet the image they said of a class that ranges. Where is the feature to allow them to ignore difficult terrain and at later levels magical terrain.
Cleave seems super fun and it's easy to do because you can have your team pushing them together so you can cleave em
This is great!!!
10:40-11:11 - This is incorrect, Slow doesn't stack. A creature hit with multiple attacks from slow weapons can only have its speed reduced by 10 feet. That would still make it easier to kite melee enemies around, but it isn't possible to just bombard them with crossbows to reduce their speed to 0. Edit: Oops, originally typed sap. It's slow.
Great catch! Yes, you are correct. A negative effect with the same name won't stack on a target. I think we just got excited at the possibility of it :)
Can you combo weapon mastery? A rouge with a main hand dagger and off hand short sword for example. Nix, them vex now next round is set for sneak attack maintaining bonus action.
That’s exactly the idea. Dual wielders are eating good.
@@Elohist2009 Other way around - short sword main hand, dagger (or better yet, scimitar) in your off hand. Nick only works when you attack with a different light weapon, so you have to attack with the other weapon first. So, attack with the short sword which has Vex, then you can attack with advantage with your scimitar adding Sneak Attack and retaining your bonus action for a Cunning Action.
@@scottdean2199 I play as a arcane trickster. When combat starts I believe in being in stealth . Starting first round with advantage and carrying that two second round with vex.
@@awlester33 If you use a Nick weapon for your initial strike Nick has no benefit - it only works as the extra attack from the Light property. If you attack with a Nick weapon first, you still need to use your bonus action to attack with the short sword.
@@scottdean2199 Nick is a when equipped WM. Just have to use a weapon with the Nick property, then second attack must be with a light weapon. When you make the extra attack of the Light property, you can make it as part of the Attack action instead of as a Bonus Action. You can make this extra attack only once per turn.
I don't think anyone would argue this is a big improvement on the previous version of species and backgrounds.
I want ALL the PC species stats now for 2024 though!
A lot going on here! Do we know if there's a way for monks to learn weapon masteries for their unarmed strikes?
Hellllll yeahhhhhhh!!!! Let’s gooo!!!
We have 10 more videos coming out on this stuff!!! <3
Now that the book is basically out, do we think it's fully backwards compatible with D&D 2014?
It mostly feels like the same game and not a brand new version. Just improvements, and obviously some negatives. Very malleable to keep what you like and reverse or use from 2014 what you don't like in 2024.
I love the deconstruction of story As a literature major I love the thought process 😊
My friends!!!!!! I missed those faces!!! (It's been literally less than a week). Also, to clarify - HI It's Rachel from the Daggerheart Crew at GenCon!
Aww!!! Well you'll see them soooooooooon! ❤️
I think Oathbreaker/Assassin might be a better multiclass... Barbarian/Fighter is mid!
If you're gonna be a speedster, why would you be the lesser one?
Are we talking Flash here?
Tabaxi for their mobility
Any build with speed needs to be tabaxi. The guys kinda daft for leaving out the race needed for speed 😂😂😂
And rogue so you can dash on bonus action as well
@@KrynTheDragonKingGreat point, no ki points needed for cunning action!
@@olearrisA tabaxi can only use feline agility once before they have to "recharge it" by standing still for a round. So technically, a centaur would be the fastest!
All great points across the board.!
Monk/Artificer is pretty nifty! Anyone have any class/race suggestions?
Does Aarakocra count? Flying speed?
@@johnnies00 good point, no going around corners if you go straight as the crow flies!
Jesus loves you, please never forget that, because out of love for us, Christ gave himself on that cross. Soon Jesus will return, the Bible is increasingly being fulfilled. Repent and seek Him while there is STILL time! He lives and loves us❤😊
Who do you think watches The Boys with me?? Jesus is a huge Hughie fan.
What about Black Noir this season?
High: STR, CON, CHA Mid: DEX, WIS Low: INT
Interesting! I figured his Wisdom would be low too because of him getting tricked by the Russians (and The Boys) for so long. What class you thinking?
I was thinking sun monk mixed with shadow sorcerer, being able to shoot sunbeams and consume the light from an area.
I like where you're going with this.
That is astounding. Actually sounds like it would work well in 5th Edition too
Wait, rogue/artificer cross class
Artificer would definitely be a potential dual class for Frenchie. Good call!
I would've thought he's either a Bard or Artificer
He's always mixing up concoctions, that's a great call!
I dont think there's any other class that fits this salty dummie
