I don't see a reason why a producer couldn't do both, I certainly do. I make beats all the time but if I see a particular artist that I like I hunt them down and see how I can get involved. Working with someone in person who you are genuinely a fan of is a whole different experience that I highly recommend.

Ivan Calderon I agree Ivan. The purpose wasn't to create a wedge between the two titles, it was to inform producers on the differences between the positions.

i always look for producers who serious abut making good music not just giving you the studio session. i need their criticism and not just cause he wants his money and roll lol

To me its the whole idea of waking up and doing what I love to do everyday. Making money off beats is awesome and all but someone being inspired from my beat means more then some dollars that come and go. Do what you love, and what you love, will do you......wait.... what..??

I don't even know how to get my foot in the door to BE an "in-studio producer". Basically what I've observed is that dudes just start off on the internet making beats in their bedroom until they get more poppin and then people eventually hire them to come be in the studio and produce

Go to conferences and conventions, email studios for internships or just on how you can be involved, DM artists on social media. All of these have worked for me. Most importably tho always come from a "how can I be of service to YOU" mentality. That right there has been huge for me

Micah Hampton Ivan hit it on the head. When you position yourself to be someone of great value that would like to give before taking, you'll be invited in rooms a lot quicker. Sometimes it begins with booking out a studio to 'work' on your own stuff and in the process getting familiar with the staff and artists you come in contact with while you're there.

Curtiss King TV mmmmm that last part helps a lot. There's like, one studio that isn't 50 mins away from me. They have denied me an internship, but renting out their studio for a few sessions would def help

Micah Hampton I was found online on a forum of producer I posted to a lot. I've been working at Westfall since December 2015 and it's been great.

Hey Curtiss, mentioned this briefly at the end but I think bears repeating that being a studio or an at-home producer is not mutually exclusive. You can do both. You're obviously going to focus your efforts toward a certain side, but just because you are mainly focused on selling your beats via the internet doesn't mean you should never jump into the studio and work that way. And just because you prefer to work in the studio, shouldn't prevent you from selling your beats on the internet on the side. Both of these behaviors can enhance your career.I would say that being able to do both, and getting better at both, will make you a more well-rounded producer in the long run.

I currently get the best of both worlds. I produce in the studio for a few artists, but they come to my location. And I plan on opening a beat store in the next few months.

Yeah I'm 31. And when I started at 15 it was like you had to become friends with the engineer or find an artist and CLING on to them so when other artists come in to the studio you can meet them. Now you definitely can do it in a couple of other ways. Lately I've had artists hit me up wanting to me to make custom tracks for them. That's like half my business right now. Relationships relationships relationships! Be sincere with people find ways to help them, and ultimately it will come back to you. Not everyone, but starting out that's what can give you the value. Actually giving a starting artist the time of day. Sorry for ranting lol

  • @prodyaxis

Curtiss, how do I get serious peoples that actually buy my beats? I'm always contacted by email and or Twitter by some rappers who are like "yo your beats fye let's work". I sends a few beats. They say they like it, but as soon as I start talking about money the just nope the fuck out and I never hear of them again

So what thoughts do you have for me as an engineer who has made the transition into hip hop production over the past few years. I still primarily engineer both live and in studio, but for me I HAVE to be in the studio. What does that balance look like.

Lets talk the brand though. I know a lot has changed and know there are industry producers who are also internet producers...BUT do you feel like it cripples your brand to be an internet producer? If everyone has access to your beats low quality and high quality artist do you feel it takes away from your presence....could you really claim to be the one of the greatest as an internet producer? Could you really change the sound of the culture as a internet producer? Lets talk about it.

Sometimes the artist can be on another level don't judge a book by the cover the artist could have a better idea than yours, and sometimes those things in his head could be a
HIT, sometimes you got to go at the game different Richard H Cain I'm on Facebook, I can give you an example of that beat in my head
