For anyone who wants to know, this song was written by Billy Straus, and was originally performed by Rockapella (the house band for the "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" TV show). You can find performances of this song by them from 1991 (e.g. on a comedy special by Whoopi Goldberg, "Chez Whoopi"). What's more, Sean Altman, the founder of Rockapella, helped to create the arrangement used in 1992's "Leap of Faith". (Side note: Altman also co-write the theme song for Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego.) I'm not sure who I'm writing all of this for, I'm just sort of a Sean Altman nerd right now I guess...
Steve Martin is very intelligent. He takes the time to read & choose good scripts. THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING LAYERED, COMPLEX, & AN IMPORTANT EMOTIONAL STATEMENT ABOUT THE HUMAN CONDITION IN HIS MOVIES.
I love this song it is me lord in a time of my life when I couldn't see where I was going. I love so much to get the word's to this song lord have mercy. There is a change in my life she he came along ( JESUS ).
I heard this song on the Dog The Bounty Hunter episode A Man Called Dog. He mentioned this song and how it helped him I think, and then ssomeone sang it.
This may sound funny but I had no idea this guy was/is white. Having seen the movie and having the soundtrack to "Leap of Faith," I just assumed he was black. Who knew?
Because in the film it is sung by Angels of Mercy choir who are black skinned! Does the skin colour matter? Arent the words and message of song the same?
Beautiful song!!
It is surprising but this does not appear on Spotify anywhere. This is easily one of the best songs I have ever heard.
Agreed.

It's my favorite Steve Martin film and that says a lot (Parenthood, The Three Amigos, Father of the Bride, Roxanne, The Man With Two Brains, etc).
Am so glad I hung onto the original soundtrack on CD!
