    wrap your outside intake with mothers panty hose, will stop the big stuff going in I have used them for over 11,000 miles without any problem

    Veteran cross country racer here,,, we liked k&n fabric based filters best in mud/water environments, and other foam based brands in dry/dusty/desert operations.. All good if properly installed.. The reason I commented is because I think you should put the crankcase vent hose on the k&n filter the way they designed it to be done.. There is/was nothing wrong with the way they had it set up to do..

    Just read all the comments. You're right, people either hate K&N or love them. I just bought a UNI filter for my pioneer 700. When held up to the sun I can see little holes through the UNI. Someone else posted a video demonstrating the same thing. People say the same thing about K&N filters. I just ordered a K&N for my Pioneer and I'll give that a try and see how it works out. People claim they "dusted" their engines. I've learned one thing in my 52 years on earth, some people "claim" to be mechanically inclined but aren't. If you had a car come into your shop with a K&N and the motor has been dusted, there's a reason for it and I'm sure the owner improperly installed the filter or it fell off or it hasn't been cleaned in 5 years and the oil dried up. Lots of men have pride and won't admit when they screwed up doing a simple install. There has to be a reason why some engines are being "dusted" by a K&N filter or any other aftermarket filter for that matter. I've used K&N for over 30 years and NEVER had an issue with dust getting past the filter in the intake tube. My air boxes have been absolutely filthy, yet the intake tube is still clean. I give it the white paper towel test to see. K&N claims 97-99 percent filtering efficiency....end of rant.

      I’m still running the very filter in this vid and have had zero issues and even got muddy water in my air box a time or two...lol. Proper install and maintenance are what makes the difference.

    I had a coarse pre-filter from a Polaris ranger that fits in the intake opening behind the drivers side cab. I use pre-filters on just about everything I own. Keeps a lot of dirt from getting to the main filter. I've never had an issue with too much restriction as long as I keep the pre filter-clean.

    Watch Project Farm's video on air filters and I guarantee you'll change your mind about K&N lol. I love WIX

    You made a perfect spot for your k&n filter bypass it filtering and to suck dirt through into the engine

    I had a K&N filter on a 1999 Yamaha Grizzly and found the K&N filter to be a lot easier to service than the OEM filter was.

    Just a thought , can you just leave the vent of the crank case the way u did, but completely close the elbow that goes into KN filter top hole? May be even use a plug to close that hole.

    • @AppalachianMountainRiders
      @AppalachianMountainRiders  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      solrus20 there’s no reason you couldn’t plug the hole in the filter top.

    Old thread, but for any new viewers, it is proven that K&N DOES NOT filter better. Yes, more airflow, but not as great as filtering. Stick with a factory, UNI etc

    • @AppalachianMountainRiders
      @AppalachianMountainRiders  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a big deal if you run a pre filter like I have but you are correct. That’s why it’s a performance filter cause it flows more air and to do that it has to give up some filtration.

      I have always used Moose plows in the past with my ATV's and have really liked them. Not sure what they offer for the Pioneer's but I would recommend the Moose Country style plow. They are well built and hold up to a lot of abuse.

    can't see why a little more oil in the K&N would hurt, cleaning them and re-oiling is part of the cycle. The very very small amount of oil would not amount to any negative side effects imo. opinions vary... love your videos

    Can you give me some good ideas about my Pioneer 1000 pre cleaning air filter
    I would like to add a better filter in the front to keep from having to change that expensive paper filter in the back
    don't really like the idea of cutting a hole in my hood and having it on the outside
    thanks for the help

  • @chucklesthefireguy5356

    Gypsy is correct... K&N are great for street rods needing air, not great for dirt applications.

  • @chucklesthefireguy5356
    @chucklesthefireguy5356 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You sure that isn't just a crank case vent? Breather? that needs fresh clean air? Therefore the K&N is doing what it should. Other than they don't filter for crap. A prefilter is highly recommended!

    Have you had any issues with your crank case vent since your modifications? Is this modification really needed? Thanks.

      Cody Callahan the link in the description will take you to the filter on amazon. The part number will be listed there. I don’t have it off hand.

    What kind of windshield do you have on that beast??

  • @GYPSY400
    @GYPSY400 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The filter is NOT better.. you will dust the engine .. trust me!! My ATV blows all sorts of smoke thanks to the crappy filter that you can see daylight through!!
    It does flow better, and may give a little more power. But it only stops the big particles.. all the small stuff goes right through.

    • @AppalachianMountainRiders
      @AppalachianMountainRiders  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +GYPSY400 I will be doing a full snorkel system with a pre filter so I think I will be alright. Appreciate the feedback though

      GYPSY400 I agree with you 100 persent .. UNI. All the way

    • @AppalachianMountainRiders
      @AppalachianMountainRiders  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Topgunviking Hard To Kill now you guys have me worried...lol. I’ll be snorkeling it rather soon ( keep an eye out for the vid) and will be adding a pre filter so I should be safe once that is done. That was my plan all along and why I went with the k&n figured the higher flow would be better since I will basically be running two filters.

    Have you had any feedback from K and N about your air filter Mod?

    • @AppalachianMountainRiders
      @AppalachianMountainRiders  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      KGS 1234 I very much doubt they have even seen my vid. They didn’t sponsor the vid or anything. I bought the filter on my own and just did the install vid as a fan of their filters and nothing more. Maybe word will get round to them though and they will find a better way to vent the crank case. Even just a small filter to plug in the end of the hole would be better. A small fuel filter might even work fine.

    Hi, I was looking to get a gift for a family member with a pioneer 500, and upgrades that helpful for cheap money? Thanks in advance!

    • @AppalachianMountainRiders
      @AppalachianMountainRiders  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      One of the most beneficial upgrades I bought for my P5 was the Throttle Maxx gas pedal extender. It helps to reduce the strain on your ankle, shin, and calf muscle on long rides and helps keep consistent pressure on the throttle in rough terrain. They cost around 70 bucks. Here is a link to check them out. www.throttlemaxx.com/product-page/honda-pioneer-500-700

    Clean air is better than more air. K+N is the worst filter out there. Might as well just use a sock. It might actually filter better
