Stuff that i forgot to mention: - In terms of epic winter and the introduction of new characters, i don’t mind new characters being introduced at all (love my gal faybelle), and i didn’t dislike epic winter (any eah content is a fantastic time), it was just my least favorite compared to the previous arcs - The whole asthetic and design of ever after high IS EXQUISITE AND DESERVES THE HIGHEST PRAISE - I wish raven and dexter would have gotten together bro (also maybe daring and cerise) and if they developed a relationship between either apple and darling or apple and raven that would have been everythingggggg - I just realized i never even gave the show a concrete ending... how silly and goofy of me
The character designs are just simply fabulous!!!! Dexter and Raven did go on dates so I'm gonna assume they're together. I feel Dexter's destiny is to be the good king to the evil queen (Raven) And as for Apple and Darling, they kinda played it off as CPR, but remember, this is a world of magic where true love works, so in my interpretation, they confirmed it.
@@mzenseason Yeah, It is my least favorite arc out of all of them. I love Daring and Rosabella!!! We definitely deserve more Dexter, as well as Dexven screentime. And we could have gotten it, but no :(
OK I agree with you 👍👍. Epic winter is my least favourite arc compared to remaining arcs. I mean I don't hate it but it could have done better. I would like the movie more if Daring ended up with Cerise and also the dolls could have been better if they didn't change the face mould and mould on the doll leggings. But overall I like the movie I enjoyed seeing Crystal Winter and Daring got a better character development. I wish Dexter and Raven have gotten more episodes and if the show wasn't cancelled we would get to see Darling and apple.
@@amidoshi1909 tbh daring and rosabella just made so much sense bc of Daring's personality but i feel the should have hinted it before Epic Winter cause its super comoressed into a few days which for us is kind of like little less than 2 hours so it feels super rushed for two characters we have never seen together before and one had a set love interest and some dates before that ended in nothing
Literally my worst fear for ever after high (and the new monster high show) is for someone to decide to pull a fate the winx saga and make an edgy live action show and take the all charm and whim out of it. Edit: yes I’m aware about the live action and yes it confirmed some of my fears
Omg yea I hate the new winx saga I watched two episodes and I was like no they took everything taht was so cool about it away especially the transformations!!🥲
@@AmandaTodhunterOfficial Yeah there's a live action show in the making, at least that's what I heard and I'm praying it doesn't turn out like the live action winx.
"What I would love to see is Apple slowly turning into a villain in order to secure her happily ever after" Me: May I introduce to you the School of Good and Evil by Soman Chainani. I swear that this sentence is that book summarized.
YES!! It’s so good! Younger me used that book series to fill the ever after high lore shaped hole in my heart after the show gave up on the main established plot.
The Cinderella and prince charming incest thing gets explained in the books Basically the Charmings end up as stand in princes and princesses for whenever someone has a spare destiny to fill Same with the How did the evil queen had Raven while in the mirror realm She didn't, she had many (trauma filled) years with Raven before being trapped Also Raven has a dad who is a notable -ish character "The Good King" being the opposite of his wife and only married her cuz DESTINY
My theory is that the reason why The Evil Queen stole the Storybook of Legends in Thronecoming was because The Evil Queen was once just like Raven when she was younger--- misjudged and terrified of the future that society had for her, and the only way she saw out of it was to get rid of the Storybook of Legends. Clearly, her plan must hadn't succeeded in the end and she probably gave into the person everyone expected her to be. That could be a reason why she's so attached to keeping Raven by her side--- she sees her past self in Raven.
I'm pretty sure she stole it so Red Riding Hood and the wolf could get together. Or at least that was her breaking point that made her finally go for it. Not sure tho, that's what I remmeber.
...no she doesnt. They literally show a flashback of her being a conniving twit. Ravens good heartedness comes from being half raised by her father, a random good king with zero family ties to either charming or snow white. Just a rando good guy
@@Jean-dr1lo yeah but she wants it for herself manipulating Raven to get it in the form of "them" having happiness it would make the plot interesting if you know what I mean
The implications of the EAH universe are super disturbing but also super interesting. What if a fairytale character straight up just didn’t want to have a kid? The state is basically forcing them to have children against their will just for the sake of continuing their story. Fairytale characters have no reproductive rights at all. Goddamit Mattel, what have you done?
I think in one of the books they suggest having another character take the place of Raven as the Evil Queen, so not having kids isn’t necessarily a problem
I watched EAH when I was younger, and I was really confused about the whole Raven being Apple's aunt thing and the 1st generation stuff before I began to read the books. According to the books, Apple, Raven, and everyone else are not the first generation of EAH students to sign the Storybook of Legends, but somewhere in between the 175th-243rd generation (I forgot the exact number lol). Also, the books state that the Charming family has many different branches like what Dexter was saying in the tv series. To elaborate, Dexter was saying that the Charming families are used as auxilary princes and princesses to whoever's story needs a Prince Charming. Since they are between the 175th-243rd generation, that means that there have to be multiple Charming families with multiple Charming offspring, who at this point, would be veeeeerry distant cousins to each other. Nonetheless, it is still verified and supposedly resolved to make sure that if there are two or more Charmings present in a story, they must be distant cousins or have no genetic relationship at all. Thus, there is no incest, because Milton Grimm is said have taken that note into careful consideration. With that in mind, Apple is not Raven's niece. Since they are around the 175th to 243rd generation and everyone has been keeping track of the Charming-incest situation, Raven and Apple are not related to each other at all. Also, Raven's dad has been described as being in his late 30s to early 40s (appearance wise). I doubt he'd be able to have a daughter the same age as Snow White when Snow White and the Evil Queen went to school together, sooo there's that! I honestly feel like the books (specifically The Storybook of Legends) explains the whole situation better than I do, so check them if you want verification! The books are really good regardless!
Also, I would like to add that in the books, the Evil Queen heard about Raven refusing to sign the Storybook of Legends and is very proud of her for rebelling against Milton. In fact, she said it was good Raven found out because she knew that Raven does not have an evil heart. She knew all along that the Storybook of Legends is a sham deal and that the one Milton has is a fake. It's also alluded that she knows where the real book is, but doesn't really care to use it or tell anyone where it is. She also seems to be more caring and empathetic towards Raven in the books than she was in the Dragon Games arc. Though she does put Raven into traumatizing...situations (i.e. turning her pet puppy her father gave her into a bone rat), it seems to be in a "I'm going to show you how to do this skill and maybe one day you'll make it into a career, but you don't have to, and if you really want to or need to, just use this skills as a back up plan." sort of way, not a "Do evil because I'm evil, MWHAHAHA!" type of thing, like what was portrayed in the Dragon games. The Book Evil Queen and the Dragon's Game Evil Queen are not the same AT ALL.
But like why does the Snow White's generation all have the "founder"'s name than? Like they tried to make it make sense but it just rises more questions.
They probably change their names after their story because they’ve ‘become’ that character. Eg the current Snow White is Apple’s mother but as soon as she does her destiny, she’ll be the new Snow White
@@bungaloosbungalow8308 Quick question how do you get the books? and is there a free site that has a tid-bit of the books contents? Like a story wiki or something
@@mynym4543 Yeah, just like that. It's kinda like the name is a title that's passed on to each person. They've got their given name, which would be Raven, Apple, Cerise, etc. but they've also got their storybook title (Evil Queen, Snow White, etc). In the case of the two word ones the last word is regarded as a surname, and so it relegates each story to one family (or Mutiple in the case of the Charmings.)
in the books its mentioned that Raven's father is 'The Good King' so he does seem like he is a 'extra' character. Also in the before the school year tale for Briar Beauty she has twin little brothers
I think it would also be cool if the Royal vs. Rebel divide was portrayed less as cliques and more with the attached politics of whether or not people should be able to choose their destinies.
So correct!! While it's kinda hinted that the rest of the world, even powerful figures outside of EA think the same as Headmaster Grimm it would have been great to see that more explored in depth. Definitely bring EAH to new heights even though the brilliant writing of the show has raised so many questions and lessons already. I wish the show could come back :(
I assumed it was the latter without context and was confused as hell when that one girl was like "I'm gonna choose both sides!" Like, how are you supposed to side with two opposing, incompatible viewpoints? You can't be FOR forcing someone to follow their destiny without screwing over the rebels who want to choose their own destinies! If she means that people should be allowed to choose whether they want to rebel or not...isn't that already the rebel philosophy? Because their main thing is having a CHOICE. If someone wants to follow their destiny, they should, but that doesn't mean EVERYONE has to follow a predestined path. Unless that's not how it works and the rebels are forcing the royals to rebel...but wouldn't they essentially be doing the same thing as the people they're fighting against? I'm probably putting way too much thought into this lmao
@@TuesdaysArt that's why the concept of labeling has been questioned a lot in ever after💀 buttt no one is forcing anyone to not follow their destiny just showing that there is an option. And while some could make the argument that people following their destiny and not following their destiny could lead to the confusion and therefore the erasure of the fairy tale world, that has already been disproven by Raven not following in her mother's footsteps even after signing. The story book of legends has been proven to be more traditional rather than mandatory. Meaning it was never the end all be all of the fairy tale world because if that were the case there wouldn't have been the future generation presented at the end of ever after high. Nothing had happened to anyone. Raven didn't sign and nothing happened and when she did sign and chose to be who she wanted with the prompting of her friends in the "Way to Wonderland" Movie nothing happened. It's safe to say that there isn't too much to worry about when it comes to the concept and inner workings of ever after. Just takes a little brain power and analyzing both the show and the books
I read way too many EAH books as a kid and Dexter's destiny was actually addressed in one of them. Basically, Grim said, "You are a prince, even if you don't have a clear destiny fairytales are in constant demand of princes so you can figure out that mystery on sign our storybook of legends day ". After Raven rebelled Grim just canceled the whole event and no one else was allowed to sign. Dexter has a destiny according to Grim but, Dexter will just never know what it is. Dexter is a Charming so Grim is probably right, but we will never know, yay! Poppy is also technically Holly and vice versa so love that!
@@Mah-mg2bh THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING! but bro he would HAVE to marry a random princess and have a child with them before he got to be with his ACTUAL love, would he even be allowed to have a child with Raven if this was the case? I know that The Good King is Raven's dad but it also could work out in a different way
I think Dexter's destiny is to be Raven's "Good King" , as what Apple says in the story of "Storybook of Legends" she said that stories would probably have a little change or difference in future generations. (since she said she's gonna be a blondie Snow White and she also thought it was very unfathomable if Raven became her stepmother)
@@lilybelleheller Apple said in the book, that Raven being her stepmother was too "unfathomable" (quite dark and weird) so she believed that their story would quite have a few changes, like her being a blondie Snow White unlike her mom that has black hair.
@@lilybelleheller Them being stepmom and stepdaughter seems weird so probably they'd be "in-laws" since Darling (if ever she is Apple's true love) and Dexter are siblings.
@@lilybelleheller yeah the stories are allowed to have some varioation which is why the evil queen didn't jus t croak the second she tried stretching her boundaries.
@〘 • that gay frog boi • 〙 that’s what I was thinking, also I find it funny that since the parents of Apple, Raven, etc aren’t the first generation, this implies that every single person that played the role of snow while had dark hair since apple mentioned “being a blonde Snow White is different”. Idk it’s just a thought.
What I'll never forgive this show for is introducing the Darling Charming - Apple White plot line, and just completely drop it afterwards Like, I still love the show, but WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT?
HONESTLY! I WAS SO EXCITED ABOUT IT! I wanted to see how that affected Prince Charming more and how they address and handle their change in relationships. We did see it for a bit but I wanted to see it in the long run because Apple and Charming were together for a long time and suddenly apple doesn’t have her “ending???” with him (like before the whole winter thing) but we’re never getting it 😩
My guess is either they planned to explore that, but the show ended up being cancelled before they got to it. That or it was a bunch of conservative moms on facebook complaining and getting the plot line scrapped like they did to monster high as a whole That being said IT'S SO UPSETTING Darling and Apple would have made such a cute couple! not to mention how inspiring it would be for little girls watching to see that kind of representation explored! Darling was an iconic character, and her and Apple's arc should have gotten a chance to play out
Darling Charming - Apple White plot line actually seemed interesting to me. I'm sry you might be upset about it but I love shipping them so much. One of the writers said that they were canon I think so they thought to extend their plot line furthur after epic winter but sadly the show got cancelled. We never got to know what will happen. Darling suits well with Apple than Daring. Daring suits well with Cerise and Lizzie . There are some plot twists in this show which I love❤❤
I think the whole Darling-Apple thing was about testing the waters which is why they never say it outright. And the reaction wasn't good from the parents so they backed up and said"haha just cpr folks!"
OKAY, so I headcannoned that when fairytale characters have more kids than that is necessary to fulfill future roles, the children without roles are called "spares." The spares are the children who are next in line in case something happened to their elder siblings, such as death or going missing.
@@siaorihara I think it could go in the other direction too-imagine if you were stuck being in a coma or whatever but your younger sibling can be a lesbian shoemaker or a seamstress. They get to have lives of their own while you're stuck living some destiny that may or may not suck depending on who your parents are.
A question popped in my head-what if your daughter dies before she can complete her destiny and you only have sons afterwards? Does the eldest son become trans to complete the destiny? Or will he still remain the same gender but take on his sisters role anyway?
@@TuesdaysArt lmaoo not sure but it will probably be the next female cousin - lets say cerise from red riding hood dies or something- they will probably have one of her cousins take over that role. But i am guessing that their is som sort of protocal for these things tbh
Daring and Rosabella makes so much sense because Daring is a self-absorbed, good-looking, rude prince. The beast in Rosabella's story was exactly the same. Rosa's dad got turned into a beast for ignoring someone who needed his help, and Daring did the same thing to Crystal's dad when he got to Ever After High. Once Daring was a beast he was mad of course (like the beast in the story) and Rosabella fixed him throughout Epic Winter. Towards the end of Epic Winter, Daring even signed himself up for the job that Faybelle promised to do for her! So, Rosabella was being the Belle and Daring was being the Adam! (I know they're not doing Disney names but idk what else to call them) Also, Daring's jacket color scheme is the same as the Beast's when he danced with Belle. (Again, sorry for the Disney)
@@nevaehlheaven yup in the last episode of that winter series they became canon, at some eps after that series Apple and Charming were like arguing and confronting each other about Charming's destiny since he's supposed to be Apple's shining knight in armor that is one of the reason why Apple was in distress aside from Raven not signing the book. So yup they are canon ^^
@@bella_daze3092 Im so glad too! When she said she doesnt like them as a pair I thought I was the only one who likes and ships them, glad I found my people ^-^♡
I loved the idea about Apple turning evil. I liked Apple in the beginning of the show but then she became to self absorbed about her own story (imo). I felt like it would have fit well but prob to angsty for a kids show. I feel like your version could be the young adult version of Ever After High
It would also match with the theory that apple white and Raven have been swapped after birth and apple white is actually the daughter of the evel queen. One of the indeed is that she have’s blond hair like the evel queen and Snowwhite have’s very black hair like Raven.
The best explanation for the theory with i mention in my comment is in this video, it’s very interesting and would recommend it to watch. th-cam.com/video/QJMC1gWAU_g/w-d-xo.html
@@nicolejenni6551 omg that would be SO COOL . Like they both find out and then they have to switch destinies and Apple just goes besirk and becomes full on evil. And raven like “fixes” her and the. They live happy ever after and raven can have dexter as her Prince Charming.
There are books that talk about their parents and the kids early childhood. They were pretty good. However, your idea of how the parents works makes more sense. As for the queen, she was placed in the mirror after she tried to take over other worlds and stories, which is also why she took the book. However, she was there in Raven’s life for a few years. I’m not sure how long she was there, but I know Raven once got a puppy and her mom turned into a spider (I think, it’s been awhile since I read it). However, your version sounds really cool and interesting.
They say the Evil Queen was trapped in the mirror realm prison for 9 years, making Raven 6 years old when her mother got trapped into the mirror realm prison. (Since Raven is 15 years old) Also the Evil Queen turned Raven's puppy into a bone rat... from that day, Raven told herself she'd never ever want to be like her mother.
Yeah I think her dad gave her a cute puppy when she visited him (divorced parent visiting situation). Then she went to her mom and showed her the puppy. Which she turn into a rat because it was more fitting for a upcoming evil queen. Raven prefered the puppy and realised she didn't want to be a evil queen.
I always thought that the reason the Evil Queen hid the Storybook of Legends was because she wanted to go beyond her story; she wanted to do more evil than her story would let her, acting as the opposite to Raven. So she hid the book so she wouldn't have to sign it and she wouldn't be bound to the story that leads to her demise.
i personally wanted an arch for duchess swan, she wasnt bad she just didnt want a bad and unhappy ending cause i think at the end of her story she dies or something like that (i might be wrong). i also hated apple, she was a good person but i still didn't like her. also i wanted more of darlings arch.
SAME. She was such an interesting minor character. (I really like her character design) She doesn't actually die in her story, but has to live as a swan for the rest of her life alone. So yea, her happily ever after sucks. So her motivation to why she wanted to snatch up other royals' happily ever after makes a lot of sense. Here's how I imagine her arch would go: Have her do a scheme with Faybelle Thorn that goes terribly wrong some of the royals (excluding Ashlynn Ella which you would see why later) with good happily ever after stories. Most of the royals are pissed at her of course and she asks for Ashlynn's help. Hunter doesn't get why Ashlynn always helps Duchess even though she is always so mean to her which Ashlynn replies and says its because she pities her as she doesn't have many friends. Duchess goes off on Ashlynn while hunter is there, takes none of her bullshit whatsoever and chews her out and says she'll be forever alone if she continues that attitude of hers. Duchess runs away in tears and it causes a rather big commotion which Humphrey Dumpty notices and says Hunter went too far with his words and says he'll see if Duchess is ok. Duchess is seen crying at the lake and Humphrey tries to comfort her which doesn't do much, which causes him to question her why she's always so mean to everyone. She reveals that she's secretly jealous of the royals with good happily ever afters hence why she is often mean towards them. She cried because Hunter is right in saying that no one likes her because of her personality which Humphrey denies and reminds her of the time she was actually nice and people really liked her. He states that if she tried to be little nicer to everyone maybe she might find her charming someday which finally cheers Duchess and she agrees. However Humphrey says that Duchess might have to apologise to the people she wronged first if she wants a people to be her friends. Next day, Duchess tries to apologise to Raven and Apple White which both are extremely surprised by and Raven thinks Duchess has been cursed or something as she never acts in such a way. She explains her reasoning for hating the both of them, which Apple easily forgives her while Raven begrudgingly does so. Raven informs Duchess that she can be like Raven and write her own destiny/story which Duchess asks if something like that is even possible for a person, which Raven states that it's a far better alternative than to take another's happy ending. Boom, duchess gets redeemed and gets with Humphrey cause they have some good chemistry.
I think there a book about duchess swan where she gets enrolled in villain courses as an effort by headmaster grimm to find a replacement for raven. she goes to the classes because she sees them as a way to find a new destiny,
4:26 in the books it is said that briar has several brothers, eight if I'm not mistaken, they are younger than her, but by the logic of eah, i imagine they will follow some destiny for an important character like you said. I highly recommend the books!! They were the best part of my childhood ♥ever after high is amazing
10:36 the Grimm Brothers didn't even create the fairytales, they wrote them down! Something that isn't as well known nowadays is that fairytales, or folktales, are an oral literary genre, where the story are always retold through the ages and around the world, until someone eventually records a version of them. Which is why I love stories like EAH, because the idea that you have to stay faithful to some "original version" of a folktale is absolutely bonkers, since there is no real original. The only version you have to be faithful to is the one you love most, or create one you prefer. Let destiny keep changing! [EDIT] Also, Milton and Giles are original characters by the show, the real folk tale collectors were called Jakob and Wilhelm.
You should def read the books they have so much more lore and are IMO beef it up to the max like expanding on apple's backstory with her issues with her name, blonde hair, glasses, and fear of wells and her mother's toxic impact on her because of like all of that. Cerise's whole shtick about being destined to be the big bad wolf and making her sister ramona up entirely as a coping mechanism- the authors being age-old and worlds like monster high canonically existing and the crossover in the legend of shadow high book, the world-ending lava?? those two sisters that actually went poof because they didn't follow their destinies?? The books are DARK I tell you and they're amazing. Like half of cerise is technically speculation but it was still very hinted at and I've got my own theories on Raven being Brooke the whole time after the ending of the last book.
@@talithacrow7530 wasn’t it faked by the Grimm principal - like I rmb smt abt the words on the walls or smt being fresh and new so they didn’t actually poof but we dk where they went either-
I don't get why the parent thing confused you. Cinderella's daughter would find a prince of another character, not her brother obviously: that's where other's kids come in. Also wouldn't make sense if signing a destiny is a first time thing for them, why would they structure an entire world around a new tradition. Makes sense if it is a tradition that has been in place for ages. You can have as many kids as you want, the oldest just gets the direct destiny of a parent. Others will play secondary roles for other older kids or just become another charming family of stand-in princes and princesses. Milton and Giles don't write the stories since we see older characters like Baba Yaga. The storybook of legends existed with the parents seen in the books.
@@nesiachan4534 Yeahhh!! and i like how they have a small bit of drama, like Poppy is technically older but 1, wants to be a hairdresser, and 2, Holly believed she was older and was excited to play her role as the next Rapunzel
Ever After High deserves a huge comeback since Descendants is finally gone (Thank God) since we got Life Action Monster High, maybe we can get origin Life Action of Ever After High of how it all started with the main characters
Okay lets break some of this down. First thing I want to address is Milton Grimm’s desire to keep everyone on their destiny: In the books there is acknowledgement and more detail about why he tells Raven that she’ll go poof. There’s a whole storyline of Raven and Apple hunting down these two sisters who supposedly didn’t follow their destiny, Grimm said they went poof but in reality they just ran away, he uses the poofing as a way to discourage Raven from not signing. Second thing, Daring and Rosabella: The two of them getting together actually makes sense. She changes his perspective on other people and himself where as Cerise just had minor interactions with him. Thing number three, Dexter and Raven, Raven and Apple: Okay bear with me because this is gonna be a lot. In the books they actually show Raven’s father, the good king. There was theories that the Dexter’s destiny might be to follow the good king which would make sense because he was so into Raven. In the books there is also not the constant pushing of Raven and Apple’s friendship. They have different friend groups and the book acknowledges that that’s okay where as in the show they seem to push that Raven and Apple are supposed to be really good friends and they have to constantly interact with each other. Yes I get how that makes sense in regards to their stories but the entire show has Apple and Raven parading around each other where as the books have them go off on their own little adventures. Four, Raven and her mother: In the show they don’t specify how Raven and her mother are, but you can see tension between the two of them and its obvious. In the books it shows more about how abusive the Evil Queen was to Raven. It makes more sense in that connotation. Five, the incest stuff: Honestly I’m just going to admit this point blank, the show probably didnt pay that much attention to this because of it being a show for kids. That’s what would make it make sense for there to be so many plot holes that we can’t fill. And finally number six, The Story Book of Legends: Basically to summarize so we can look at it all in one sitting; the simplified version. Queen done a big bad and signed more than just her page, took over other people’s destiny which lead her to trying to take over wonderland. If we think logically, theres no way she could have done this while she was still in school nor could it have happened while she was in mirror prison. So therefore she must’ve done it in between graduation and imprisonment. It’s obvious that, based off the books, she had Raven and then went on her crazy rampage. So if I had to guess then I assume she did hide it while she was in school and headmaster Grimm never noticed and she later went on to cause mayhem. This is what would fit in order for the image of her lifting up the rug to make sense. It would also fit with the books logic as well. This is super long obviously but I really like the show. I personally didnt like your ending idea but also we’re all different. It was still fun to listen to and gave me some knew perspective and thinking time.
I do loved Ever After High Series but I am disappointed that ever after high series was cancelled because there's so much things that need to be resolved before the series will finally end like revealing Cerise Hood's family secret, Who's Apple's destiny Prince, how Darling became the white knight, the Ever After High graduation day and show what they doing in the future now, but unfortunately this is not going to happen so the writers decided to end with the cliff hanger.
Hmm there needs more things to be revealed but sadly the show got ended . If the show gets a reboot will they reveal these things or else will they make a new generation I don't know
I am SO glad people are bringing up EAH again! The books and the show will always have a place in my heart. The themes, the message, the CHARACTERS, the storytelling, the world-building... It was definitely something else. It was its own species. It was nothing short of a MASTERPIECE.
Theory on how Ever After High could come back: This theory is based off two things. Ratings, and a character. If the ratings of the live action Monster High movie turn out good, then that will motivate Mattel to continue Monster High and if they continue Monster High we will see one character that was involved in both franchises, C.A. Cupid. If we see Cupid in the movie that most likely means that she will eventually transfer to Ever After High. But then again they’re telling the story from Clawdeen’s perspective so we either won’t see her at all and Ever After High will stay dormant, we see her but she stays at Monster High, or we see her and Ever After High will get a reboot.
@@coralMITOCHONDRIA It wasn’t fully Descendants fault it was also a bit of Mattel too. If you wanna know more look at this video The SAD history of Ever After High Dolls 8:11 m.th-cam.com/video/A0qlxqeIngk/w-d-xo.html
I had an obsession with royalty/ fantasy stories. So EAH and a book series called School for Good and Evil was my life during middle school. They’re very similar too, both are set in a magic school, taking after fairytale, wlw, are pretty grim at times and had heavy existentialism themes about destiny. I still adore them but the beginnings were much better then the endings ( EAH never had a proper end and SGE dragged on, I think the story hasn’t ended yet)
I like the concept that the charmings' parents are just some random queen and king charming and they basically have no idea on who they're supposed to be with. And it makes more sense that Daring is not guaranteed to be Apple's charming (bc ofc, Snow White's charming is probably her dad) and the only way they all thought he was Apple's charming was just by assuming.
We were robbed of the Ever After High Monster High crossover movie :((( But omg this rewrite sounds amazing and I am all FOR the angst you put I love spiceeeeee ALSO EVEN AS A CHILD I was confused about the parents thing especially the Charming parents thank you for pointing it out lmao
I don't know if it's the algorithm giving me more EAH content, but I've seen a *lot* more EAH videos recently, and I feel like it's making a kinda comeback, and that makes me really happy! I hope that keeps happening.
I feel like Apple and Darling should end up together. Like it was hinted at and also when Darling “kissed” Apple to wake her, there was a spark of magic. Really great video btw!
Dude wtf Darling literally did cpr and the spark you're talking about was the poison coming out. They just showed that it isn't all about the fairytale and charming saving her. Like look, it didn't work when it supposed to didn't it? Pls...

I was hoping they would get some more little romance scenrs٫ but then I saw Darling Charming may have an interest in the Red Knight. But٫ my head cannon for Apple Is that she's an independent closeted lesbian.
6:00 on the parents being past students, I feel like you could work something out like maybe the kids like Apple and Raven change their names once they take on the destiny, so that way the stories don't shift too much. That way the idea of carving out your own legacy becomes stronger, and I could make for a good potential B plot with the parents where they talk about what they wanted to do instead of their story.
there was a random information that Briar Beauty and Rosabella Beauty are cousins apparently (their mom's are sisters). I agree with most of what you said like getting rid of epic winter, but I don't really like the whole mating with peasant thing and the having one kid. I feel like since we are already putting in unnamed peasants, we can easily get some unnamed royals and nobles (like dukes and Barons and stuff) to be the significant others, and I liked that there were siblings, it felt more relatable even though I don't remember all the Charmings being in the same room together (Darling was rarely if ever with her brothers). The plot of Ever After was always pretty confusing, and from my understanding, the stories are retold every generation, just with a more modernized twist (just thought of the modern part), and the prior generation wasn't the first, but when you sign the story book of legends, you sign up for that story. Like Apple wants to be the next Snow white, so when her story starts, they then refer to her as Snow White (and same goes for the other characters). I think that the Brothers Grimm in this particular case are not the authors but actual characters that act as guides (since there are narrators). What I don't really understand is why some characters just didnt have happily ever afters despite being royals or despite their stories having a happily ever after, like, why doesn't Duchess Swan have a happily ever after? Her story ends in her favor, unless she's actually the daughter of Rothbart's daughter or minion person (the person that disguises herself as Odette so that the prince professes his undying love for the wrong person), this would only explain why duchess turns into a black swan, which, and I'm not 100% sure) was like the symbol for the imposter swan princess.
Darling's book at least showed more of the deep bond she has with her siblings, especially with Dexter, she literally consideres him her best friend and he promised her that he would rescue her in the future so she wouldn't have to marry some random guy, that was so precious!!! I wish we had more of them in the show
I've always thought that names (Snow White, Evil Queen etc.) will be given to characters as soon as their story "activates". Like, I don't know, their destinies
I like the idea these predetermined matches are linked to the fact that they are each now forced to take up namesakes. And having it just be a namesake means we have SOOOO many people having identity crises over living up to their parents and it contradicting their own ideals.
I always thought that the story book had been signed by many generations and went so far back that only the Grimm brothers could remember, like the immortal monsters they are
Loved the video, u had some interesting ideas abou the plot. But, might I add, a lot of things u said is canon according to the books. I really recommend EAH books. As an example, in the first book is clarified that not every kid in the school know their destiny, like Dexter. And Legacy Day is made for them, so than can discover what their destiny is and to give the final judment about their destinies. So if the real REAL Story book of legends was signed by Daring per say, it would have show him that his real destiny was to be the prince for the beaty and the beast. Also in the books is clarified that it doest matter who they reproduce with, they just have to do it. In Cerise's family, they dont know Little Red had children with the wolf, they just think she got empragneted by Huntsman, and that is ok for them.
the whole "as long as you reproduce!" thing is so.... weird lol. the way you said her family didn't even care who she reproduced with?? the ever after high world kinda sounds shitty
@@kosbuns its bc it is kinda shitty lol. Explaining further, The Hood Family, didnt know that Cerise was half Wolf until the 2nd book. A lot of things happen in this book and Cerise has to win a basket tag thing game and if she doesnt win it ,she wouldnt be accepted and her family wouldnt let her be the next little Red. And they implied that the next Little Red would be either another Hood family member OR Little Red would have to have another child with another person besides the big bad wolf. In the books, the whole follow your destiny thing isnt just magic, it is also pressure from every member in the EAH Society. Even if they dont play a party in the story.
@@giuliama112 ..wow. the show really makes the ever after high world seem better than the books. there's so much pressure, and little red riding hood could even have to have sex with another man??? thats fckn crazy. thank you for sharing this
Guys, please, please, PLEASE remember to read the EAH books if you can! The show is just the tip of the iceburg! I believe that Shannon Hale's writing is the heart of EAH!
When do people learn that EAH isn’t based on Disney. Prince Charming isn’t THE Prince of Snow White and he isn’t THE Prince of Cinderella. Prince Charming is the „name“ of every nameless prince in a fairytale. Rapunzels Prince? „Prince Charming“ although he really could be named Jacob. Snow Whites Prince? „Prince Charming“ although in „reality“ he could be named Edmund. Same for every other Prince in a European fairytale. This + the fact that in the EAH universe there are many different royal families called Charmings that aren’t blood related makes it clear that Daring and Dexter aren’t related to any princess in EAH (besides Darling)
I would follow the books more closely if I was making a live action adaptation of EAH. It has so much hair and makeup and costuming potential, and it addresses a lot of the issues you had with the cartoon. Like in the books who we see as the original characters aren't actually the original characters, and it's touched upon how some characters ran away to another world to avoid following their story
Another thing I think about a lot is how some characters are determined by their gender in the world to what they will be doing inconsistently. Like Are you going to tell me that Darling can be a prince charming but Raven can't do her dad's destiny of being "the good king" (I'm pretty sure that's who they said her dad was in the books) I mean Maddie technically still gets to be the mad hatter, same with cedar getting to be Pinnochio. I guess maybe because one is more important than the other, but considering he is a cannon character that is mentioned in her story he still should be an option.
I think because it balances the story out, what is a Snow Whitw story without an Evil Queen, but there is a good king. Also, Apple mentioned she couldn't fathom thinking that Raven would be her stepmom or even more her widowed father since the good king is married to Snow White's deceased mom. Apple also told in the book of The Story Book of Legends that every story im every generation has slight changes. Like how the book goes skin white as snow, lips red as blood, ebony hair, but for her she's blonde. Remember the first child inherits their parents destiny so Raven got her mother's destiny. But that brings us back to your point, and I agree. I would like to just point this out.
5:44 The books actually go into more detail and explain that the main character's parents are not the first fairytales and the fairytales originate from a long line of descendants.
To answer the question about twins/multiple kids: the “fairytale” goes to the oldest. I recall vaguely one of the books followed Poppy and Holly. Holly was believed to be the older twin, so she was going to be the next Rapunzel. Poppy was happy with this because she was able to do her own thing instead of being tied down (open a hair salon.) the main conflict of the book though was that their birth orders were mixed up, meaning Poppy was supposed to be in the fairytale. They eventually figured it out by simply having Holly sign the Storybook of Legends.
I absolutely love the ending you suggested with Apple falling into a downward spiral. Though what if in order to secure her happy ever after she ends up playing out her mother's story but as the Evil Queen instead
I always assumed that when they graduated and followed their destiny their names were changed and that was the reason why there were so many previous snow whites that went to school
I think the reason why evil queen hid the book is probably because after she already signed it, she realized that would happen and that she’d have a unhappy ending. So she thought hiding it would undue her future, or to protect other rebels.
raven and apple's parent's generation of fairy tales wasn't the first. this was mentioned several times in the books like when it was mentioned how the evil queen told raven bedtime stories about the previous fairy tale generations. also, i agree, i only watched EAH because my friend showed me a picture of kitty's mom lol
In some of the shorts I'm pretty sure I remember there being an orchard with loads of really old trees that were planted there by past generations of fairytale characters and the trees served as a sort of yearbook, we saw it cause it was time for our generation of characters to plant their tree. So they're saying the fairytales we know are only one iteration of ancient fairytales that may have changed throughout time. Which links nicely with how fairytales actually work with them evolving and changing with every telling and changes in the world.
It's interesting that you refer to the parent in this show as the "original" fairy tale characters because what we now refer to as fairy tales are actually stories that have been told and retold throughout various cultures long before the likes of the Grimm Brothers or Charles Perrault. For example, the earliest known written version originated in ninth century China and the concept of the ill-fitting shoe was likely a reference to the ancient practice of foot binding.
When Cheshire Cat told Kitty she was proud of her in Spring Unsprung for being so devious and cunning and then told the kids “see you all for parents day!” And then left I was so freaking stoked! I WAS SO HAPPY! And so excited cause I thought that would mean we would get a little hour or 30min special about seeing the parents come to the school and I was so happy perhaps we’d get to see both the moms AND the dads, and smth goes wrong and yeah we gotta save the day and it’d be cool to see like dark fairy aka maleficent etc. etc. and get to see mor advanced magic-it would’ve been so amazing. Cause we do get a picture book where see the parents but it’s more of the main cast going back in time and seeing younger ver. Of their parents, so when I heard eah cancelled I have never felt such despair
I mean, the books DO indicate that "Charming" is a surname that's basically the equivalent of real surnames like "Smith" or "Johnson". So it makes sense that there are dozens of unrelated family lines named Charming, and depending on ages, genders, and relative status, there's always enough princes to rescue the Main Story princesses without issue.
I love eah, but one thing that always bothered me it's that they always makes different ships with Daring (Lizzie, Rosabella, Cerise), like, he's the only boy of the whole school??
Daring's implied to be a bit of a player, imo it makes sense, since they are still highschoolers. I still wish they could've made more ships tho, cuz daring was honestly pretty boring and I didn't ship him with anyone. Especially cuz none of the other ships went anywhere ( which also makes sense, since it is highschool, but I wish they could've showed us a better developed romance for at least one of those girls, they really did em dirty.)
This just went from an American kids animation to a Japanese anime real fast. I swear this is low-key a good plot. I loved this show so much and adding that plot into it would be the best. Also, how did you think about all of this because this sounds like it would be my favorite show? You should have some animators to make this. I'm literally over here just thinking 'I want to watch this with this exact plot.
My head canon about the babies is that maybe they are brought on storks. Okay hear me out, 1)it would make sense for the whole fairy tale thing 2) it would make them not technically related because they came from some magical void or tree or something 3) so it would be like a arranged marriage thing between Forster siblings. However I also have a theory for the “Prince Charming” thing, nobles and aristocratic’s. Maybe there are multiple, large charming families and they just have a select few who go to ever after and the others just live “normal” lives . So the select charmings get to have fairytale endings while the others would make real next gen of charmings. The charmings who get the fairytale endings kids would maybe fill in for one of the roles or just fade back into the regular family.
Doesn’t help too that most if not ALL the princes have no last name. Cause like, Snow White’s prince is ALSO Prince Charming like Cinderella and Aurora’s boy Phillip
When I was younger, I was right there when Monster High first came out, I fell in love with the characters and they gave me a feeling of confidence in myself as I watched their webisodes and movies. When EAH came out, it was a dream come true since I've always had a passion for fairytales. While I think the whole living out your destinies things was a bit much, I still enjoyed the story and it pained me when the show ultimately ended up being unresolved. If you're going to end a series, at least give it a proper send off. Personally, if I were to do EAH, I would change the destiny thing to be more about heritage. Do you follow in the footsteps of your parents and become a villain? Or do you try to become something better? Raven is the daughter of the Evil Queen, and that carries a stigma of being wicked no matter what, so people don't bother to try and get to know her except for a select few. And she helps to show the EAH student body that you don't have to be tied to your parents' past, or you aren't defined by your parents, you are who you choose to be.
Omg! I just re binged this show throughout the last 2 days (yes, I did it in that amount of time) and now all I want is more. I’m currently obsessed with it now. Please Mattel, bring this show back, we need more episodes!
2:52 Mind you, the white rabbits daughter can turn into a bunny. So, he probably took a human form when with his mrs. I reckon he probably doesn't want to change from bunny form when in Wonderland.
Thanks for making a review about ever after high. I missed it so much and this review once again reminded me of watching the show again. This show is honestly my favourite and it is a masterpiece. This show has the best story line , I am obsessed with the character designs and the dolls. Also the books are great and I love reading them. My favourite characters are Raven, Maddie and Darling. I love to see the relationship between Darling and apple but sadly the show got cancelled due to Descendants. I will never forgive it. Thanks!! once again for making this review Amanda
2:02-2:05 Reminds me how I think of Apple's and Raven's relationship: Snow white's mother is the Evil Queen, if Raven is the daughter of the evil queen, that would make Snow White and Raven Queen siblings (Or step siblings?). And since Apple is Snow White's daughter, then that would make Raven her aunt. But I ignore this just so I could enjoy the story and not be confused throughout the series.
It gets even more confusing if you add their destinies in the mix. The daughter of Apple's mom's stepmother (her stepaunt?) will marry her dad and become HER stepmother? I don't know if I like this...
The thing abt Grim brothers, I think that they force the students to follow their destiny whether its good or bad is cause if out of order, just like the orignal fairytales and their dark, twisted endings, the students will meet theirs as well. And if followed by order, they'll get their happy endings just by their parents. And how they know about this? well, my theory is that they wrote stories and didn't expect them to come true (it came true cuz their world had magic or smth like that ig), and considering Snow White was also a student there, the grim brothers were worried about their endings and let their 1st gen of student run wild so they can get rid of dark endings which they did in very unexpected ways like Red little riding hood & wolf combo, the many branches of Prince Charming and each having different princes. So the 2nd gen is told to follow 1st gen footstep cuz the grim brothers know 2nd gen will be safe if they follow 1st gen, cuz the 1st gen got their happy ending. And they're terrified by the fact that if some kids don't follow their destiny, the others, whose destiny basically interconnects and depends of the rebels would meet a bad end. And that's the foundation of EAH I guess
Yeah I think I also heard that any leftover princes from other charming families are to fill out extra fairy tale roles which makes sense on that. It’s also theorized since darling is the Prince Charming for Snow White, and Daring is the Beast for Beauty and the Beast, then that means Dexter is the Good King from Snow White he sure acts like he has a really sweet heart not to mention him and Raven being paired together Also for the wonderland rabbit i headcanon that The white rabbit got with another full rabbit and they reproduced and magic was just out on their daughter making bunny Blanc be able to willingly switch back n’ forth between a human and bunny
Ever after high has been my comfort show since I was a kid and as I've gotten older and closer to the ages the characters are, I love the idea of adding angst to their stories! I mean when you look at the Grimm Brother's versions of the stories, they are quite gruesome and gory. The show was impeccable and should have had way more time to be fleshed out and for the characters to intertwine their stories. I really hope they don't try to reboot it or make a live action version or change a bunch of things like they're doing with monster high, the show was amazing the way it was and that is the hill I will die on.
OMG i needed this- yk what when it "disappeared" all i was thinking about is How did it end anyways and i almost forgot about it but you reminded me😩, I COMPLETELY RELATE TO U i needed this so badly🤚 tyy Amanda🌾😌
Apple as a vilain is something I thought too; and she take the way when she free Raven's mother. But I would like too an Apple with a great breakdown, crushed by all the pressure she has on her shoulders to be "perfect". I wanted to see Apple step after step being mad about the fact she has to be without flaw, having a side she can't never show and envying Raven, Maddie, Briar etc. for being themselve. It would be a good message about the pressure, the problem of apparence in a community, the fear to be rejected by people if you are not who they want you to be. Apple would be the great character to do that, because i believe she has the most pressure on her.
After the dragon arc I was honestly shocked by the lack of attention paid to the whole "Daring may not be Apple's true love" aspect. Like, the fact that Darling was able to wake Apple up with a kiss, and it's obvious that Apple is struggling to comprehend this later on would have made some amazing episodes.
Love seeing more people talk about Ever After High! It was gone too soon! There's a lot of topics on your video that are talked about in the books or the doll diaries, which are all canon and pretty consistent with the webisodes stories unlike what happened with Monster High. There's a lot of questions you have that are talked about in the show and the books like the parents have been former students of Ever After High, it is talked about on Thronecoming (Briar's and Ahslynn's room is the former dormroom of the Evil Queen and Red Riding Hood). It is to assume that they may had regular names like their kids but not sure about that but there is a comic with the parents when they were younger and were you can see they dressed like their kids and had crushes outside of their destinies. Also for what we can talk there has been at least four generations or more of stories. As for the children, they can have as much as they want, Briar has a lot of little brothers who may one day become generic prince charmings like Dexter for example, in the original story Rapunzel has twins so it is to assume that a Rapunzel will always have a set of twins but one of them won't have a story or will become a generic princess. Apple explains in the first book that stories can change when talking about Raven becoming her stepmother, what matters is the core of the story, in their case envy for another's beauty, and apple and some dwarves. Raven doesn't need to be her stepmother for the story to unfold. Duchess story is not like the original Swan Lake ballet but the core of the story, at least as Duchess sees it, she will never have her prince in the end nor will she have a happily ever after, but unlike the original take she won't but will become a swan forever. As far as we know she can be just the daughter of a random swan maiden and not he literal daughter of the swan queen or her mother had her during the story. Other character like Cinderella take double roles, as Ashlynn says about her mother who was once a Cinderella, she will one day die suddently so Ashlynn's father has to marry her stepmother, same as Cedar who will one day also take the role of Gepetto.
4:33 I assume that's where all the extra princes and princesses are coming from. Prince Charming marries Cinderella and their kid becomes the next Cinderella, but thankfully Sleeping Beauty has a brother so his kid can be the next Cinderella's prince.
re: the weird kids/incest thing: i like your idea of being randomly assigned, but i also think it could work if they were adoptive children, OR (and this one is much more complicated) they’re sort of apprentices from a young age. either the kids choose (with their stellar judgement and reasoning /s) or they are assigned like you said. then you can keep the sense of obligation because the kids have pledged to follow their destiny in return for their lavish childhood and magic powers or whatever, and they owe their fairy tale “parents” or there’s some magic blood pact stuff going on. it also adds some conflict to the royals/rebels and gives a bit more stake to the royals’ side, because in this universe they would have made an agreement to their parents/the forces of the universe to go through with it. so when the rebels grow up and realise what “following their destiny” actually means for them and reject it, there’s a sense of betrayal and consequence, and you can have some fun and funky moral conflict. idk if that makes sense i’m just rambling but yeah
Oh, I really liked this series! We even have a couple of books. From those, I reckon that each character, even the fairytale ones have their own names and identities, but they fill their roles and adopt the title of Snow White, Prince Charming, Swan Princess, etc. Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf belonged to different clans filling the role, after all. So the Prince Charming that many stories share? Most likely a title given after they marry their princesses, which belong to other lineages. Kinda... like european monarchy? Minus the incest that was the norm back then? (Because in the original Beauty and the Beast, they were first-degree cousins, apparently, normal stuff, normal stuff) I loved the designs and how every character would feel and act about its destiny. CharmingXRosabelle was cute, I liked the twist. RavenXDexter, I saw that coming from miles away (a "spare" prince with no apparent storyline? Aaaand Raven's father was apparently a "spare"? :3) I liked the rebels better, if only because their color palettes and motivations made more sense to me.
to the point about “what if you have twins?”, it’s whoever was born first. poppy and holly are actually twins and i remember an episode where they found out that holly was not actually the older twin like everybody had thought. this had meant that holly would be the one to take on the legacy, and poppy freaked out when she found out that she would have to sign the storybook given she was actually born first. they ended up keeping it a secret so poppy didn’t have to fill that role
Yes, thank you for pointing it out! This has bothered me for so long, i mean if all those fairytale couples truly lived happily ever after you'd assume they had families together, meaning their kids would be the children of insert fairytale prince and princess here, but instead you get the children of the prince, the children of the princess, and those two families aren't related
The twins were explained for rapunzel’s daughters!! (Poppy and..the other one, I forgot her name) The eldest usually follows the destiny while the younger gets to do whatever they want too!! (Because you gotta pop out one before the other!!!)
It's actually interesting to think about EAH's plot since there's a LOT of stuff going on that we can't really pinpoint that well. 1. Ever After High itself. Like why is the school there? I don't get how Snow White and Evil Queen could be an alumni and I'm so glad somebody talked about this. It would be better if Snow White is the founder of the school along with the Grimms brother because they're afraid of the disorder the Evil Queen could cause and Raven too, since Raven seems more powerful than her mother imo, that's why they have to bind her using magic so she'll eventually fail. Omg so creepy 2. The storybook of legends. Why is it there and everyone seems so scared about it? I actually thought Snow White is the evil mastermind behind this dystopian following of destiny or heart dilemma in the school cuz it would make sense why she would do that. The one who'll benefit the most is Apple cuz she'll rule the kingdom where EAH is. So basically she gets to have full control of the children who'll inherit their stories. But...it's like all of them don't know what the hell is up with the storybook of legends. 3. Cerise's parents. Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf proves that you can actually have a HEA and still follow your destiny. So we can have an ending in EAH where they still achieve what they want AND follow the footsteps of their parents (if them diverging from it would actually cause harm) 4. Why would the Evil Queen hide the book? Didn't she want her daughter to commit to her evil lifestyle? ...it just doesn't make sense. Also she seems to have a vendetta against Snow so hmm something is going on in there. 5. Darling's kiss working on Apple! So I actually think that kiss is genius cuz it proves No. 3 and opens up conversations about two things: (1) who gets to inherit what title? In case of Darling, Daring and Dexter it's complicated since they all have the same father but no one is actually sure to be Apple's prince charming. We were led to believe there will be some major love triangle between Apple Raven and Dexter cuz Daring is so unprince-y but the biggest most major plot twist happened and it was Darling all along! (2) Are there other determining factor to consider when you inherit the title? So there's two options: character or is it destiny? Maybe Darling is really destined to be Apple's prince charming but is thought not to since her appearance don't match the story. Or maybe you just need the blood AND the character for it. It would make more sense why Daring would be the Beast cuz it fits his lineage and personality. If we're gonna have a good finale show we need to commit to either their destiny being bs all along or is it true but as long as you set conditions that would be an exception that wouldn't divert from the needed plot in general so you wont vanish. Because Apple has every reason to fear what Milton is warning them from. EAH is a story being read by a family where a kid narrator can actually talk to Maddie. So it proves that their ending is already predetermined since Brook is just reading it to us, right? So it's really crazy watching the story unfolds and Raven fighting the nature of stories in general but knowing there's already an ending ahead. No matter how Raven wants to she's a character not an author. Ending 1: Storybooks of Legends is real and they cant go against their destiny cuz they'll vanish (OR POSSIBLY THE STORY REWINDING OVER AND OVER IN THE BEGINNING UNTIL THEY GIVE IN 😱) The ending will be more meta. It would question how far the omniscient eye of the narrator could be. Brooks would help Raven see the future and maybe Brooks will write their story according to what Raven wanted, a chance for her friends to be who they want to be. I have a feeling Brooks works better as an author instead of a narrator since she does want to switch things up. She helped Maddie once so we know that she has the power to influence the story herself. It would also give way for more characters to be themselves WHILE they get their HEA. Apple will be a queen and Darling her prince charming yay! Ending 2: If the storybooks of legend isn't true and it's just orchestrated by Snow White (Im still sus of her idk why lol) Imagine what Apple would do! Apple would be furious! Or she would finally be free from the constant of her toxic perfectionism. This ending would focus more on Apple finding herself outside of her next Snow White wannabe persona. Also Raven! As I theorize earlier there's a reason why they're binding her. What if Snow White makes her go out of control to prove she's really dangerous or smth. And now Apple and the gang would save her and all of them choose who they want to be and be rebels from Snow White's dystopian fairytale regime. (This Ending tho has more plot holes cuz it still doesn't explain why Evil Queen would wanna hide the storybooks of legends. Maybe she got brainwashed or corrupted along the way and just accepted her destiny? She seems to think its the only option available for her daughter despite knowing it doesn't make her happy. Maybe the OG's fairytale's destiny has more to do with placebo effect. Like they believe so much about destiny and only one path or smth that they eventually made it a reality. This would also prove why the OG villains would even date set their children up for disaster cuz they think there's no other way available)
I once read a fanfic on AO3 that added so much more into the worldbuilding and it's so good. It's been a while since I've read the fanfic, and I'm not sure if it's still actually there. But in the meantime I'm gonna try and find the title of the fanfic and edit it in after I publish this comment. If you don't want to get heavily spoiled, don't click "read more". Keep in mind I haven't read the actual books, and it has been a long time since I've seen the animated series. Okay, I'm gonna start talking about what I've read in that fanfic: 1. The Grimm Brothers straight up have all the power in Ever After and are basically considered gods. The Grimm Brothers are everyone's "creators/authors" (in quotes because it's acknowledge that they just stole some of the stories and just wrote it down.) and they have the power to do anything they want with the characters, including erasing them with their magical pens that gives them power. The characters know that they're capable of doing anything towards them, so they follow blindly to avoid angering Milton. 2. The Storybook of Legends is how the Grimm Brothers stay in power. They can only stay being powerful if the worlds and stories they created remains. So to keep their power, the Grimm Brothers makes sure every generation signs the book so their stories are definite. It's not that the Storybook of Legends will make you disappear if you don't sign it, it's just that if you didn't sign it, Milton can just erase you so that no one else can follow your actions. 3. The Evil Queen is a 100% good guy. She and the Good King created the first Rebellion. Through heavy manipulation of Milton Grimm, the history books sees her as "The Evil Queen destroying fairytales" and completely erasing her narrative of giving the freedom of choice for everyone. This is why she made the forged Storybook. 4. The phony Storybook of Legends is also the reason why Cerise's parents are able to get married in secret. Their generation was the first generation to not go through definite destinies because they signed in the forged book. (I think, my memory is unsure.) 5. Some characters don't have to be related to follow the same destiny, they just need an heir. The Evil Queen was always chosen, not born (till Raven came in). This is also why there are multiple Charming families. That's just about what I can think of right now, there's so much more things in the book but I feel like these are the most necessary to talk about lol.
@@musikyleproductions2488 That's so interesting! I wanna read fanfic of EAH but I havent been in the mood to read fanfic lately! I will defo look forward to reading that. I actually wanna create a fanfic predicting the events in the next movie 😳 that's why I think about EAH so much! I just need to see Apple x Darling 😭
@@legaspinaomiannieverc.5180 Hey! I just found the title of the fanfic. It’s called "Queens" by skyrocketeer on AO3. Just a heads up, the fanfic is incomplete and hasn’t been updated since October of last year. It’s also Raven x Apple so if you’re not into that then that’s unlucky lol.
Your desire for Apple to become a villain on a quest for her happy ending reminds me SO MUCH of The School for Good and Evil, which I can’t help but compare to EAH because of the similar concepts.
I really like you mentioning the Grimm brother needing to know the end and the details on what happened, because the actual Grimm brothers compiled all the stories that previously were word of mouth only (and umm... changed a few things, so you may be closer to the real story than you think)
you’re doing gods work, honestly with how apple gets developed and the relationship between raven and her mom i always considered dragon games to be the real “ending” and sorta ignore epic winter because it’s more satisfying that way
I am a girl her in 2024 and I still miss Ever After High, I am so glad someone brings it up again (Even though this video was like 2 years ago), I really think we should bring back Ever After High!
thank you for addressing the parent / incest thing bc its been bothering me since i was 8😭. but i think the parents going to the school can be an easy fix. they dont have to be the first generation but maybe the most popular one? bc irl these stories (not all but yk) were inspired by other older less popular ones.
I was thinking that the stories had been continuing over and over again throughout the years (explaining variations in fairytales over the years maybe, and some of the technical advancements in the show rather that traditional fairytales?) this could also reinforce the culture of having to sign the story book of legends.
I think it would be interesting if, after producing a child with their assigned peasant, the fairytale characters can go on to have children with each other (as in their prewritten spouse) who they raise as their own, whereas the other children are raised separately to take their place and follow their destiny. It would add a whole other layer to everything, which i think might be interesting.
I always thought that Ashlynn was related to Darling, Daring, and Dexter cause they were the children of Prince Charming and the two Prince Charming I thought of was the one from Snow White and Cinderella. But if they’re the children of Snow White, they’d be related to Apple and that’s incest!!😰😰 So I just always think that Ashlynn, Darling, Daring, and Dexter were always siblings
I remember a few years ago when I loved EAH so much I would wait for ages for the next season to come out, not knowing it would never happen. It had already been discontinued but alas, I did not know.
For the families that have more than one kid, like the charmings, the destiny’s get separated. Daring was the beast in Rosabellas story, Darling’s Apple’s Princess Charming, and I’m guessing Dexter is the good king in Ravens story. Because Raven’s dad is the good king.
Stuff that i forgot to mention:
- In terms of epic winter and the introduction of new characters, i don’t mind new characters being introduced at all (love my gal faybelle), and i didn’t dislike epic winter (any eah content is a fantastic time), it was just my least favorite compared to the previous arcs
- The whole asthetic and design of ever after high IS EXQUISITE AND DESERVES THE HIGHEST PRAISE
- I wish raven and dexter would have gotten together bro (also maybe daring and cerise) and if they developed a relationship between either apple and darling or apple and raven that would have been everythingggggg
- I just realized i never even gave the show a concrete ending... how silly and goofy of me
The character designs are just simply fabulous!!!!

@@giftboxstudios7716 raven x apple shippers: 👀
@@draculalalaa *covers face* ...Shouldn't have said that...
It was explained why the Evil Queen did that. There was a note at the back of Raven's SDCC doll explaibing the "why". It's on wiki
I'm pretty sure she stole it so Red Riding Hood and the wolf could get together. Or at least that was her breaking point that made her finally go for it. Not sure tho, that's what I remmeber.

And the arranged marriages! Under the guise of “destiny”, EAH is pretty disturbing. Heck, I remember thinking that as a kid while watching the show
Uhm it’s just a kid show they aren’t forcing kids to have it this comment is way too woke lol
I think in one of the books they suggest having another character take the place of Raven as the Evil Queen, so not having kids isn’t necessarily a problem
The Handmaid's Tale: Ever After High edition.
@@lapis722 learn what a joke is, please. I beg you.

What I'll never forgive this show for is introducing the Darling Charming - Apple White plot line, and just completely drop it afterwards
Like, I still love the show, but WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT?
That or it was a bunch of conservative moms on facebook complaining and getting the plot line scrapped like they did to monster high as a whole
That being said IT'S SO UPSETTING Darling and Apple would have made such a cute couple! not to mention how inspiring it would be for little girls watching to see that kind of representation explored!
I’ll never forgive Mattel for that, man 😭 the idea was so great
OKAY, so I headcannoned that when fairytale characters have more kids than that is necessary to fulfill future roles, the children without roles are called "spares." The spares are the children who are next in line in case something happened to their elder siblings, such as death or going missing.
I read in the comments somewhere, that this is bascially it
I mean that would bring in drama for battling for the spot of the character in the fairytale and make it very dark and angsty

Yep please!!! I miss this show so much ✨ It's a masterpiece. Plot, music, costume, world building everything!!! It deserves so much more 🥰

i personally wanted an arch for duchess swan, she wasnt bad she just didnt want a bad and unhappy ending cause i think at the end of her story she dies or something like that (i might be wrong). i also hated apple, she was a good person but i still didn't like her. also i wanted more of darlings arch.
SAME. She was such an interesting minor character. (I really like her character design) She doesn't actually die in her story, but has to live as a swan for the rest of her life alone.
So yea, her happily ever after sucks.
So her motivation to why she wanted to snatch up other royals' happily ever after makes a lot of sense.
Here's how I imagine her arch would go:
Have her do a scheme with Faybelle Thorn that goes terribly wrong some of the royals (excluding Ashlynn Ella which you would see why later) with good happily ever after stories.

In the books there is acknowledgement and more detail about why he tells Raven that she’ll go poof. There’s a whole storyline of Raven and Apple hunting down these two sisters who supposedly didn’t follow their destiny, Grimm said they went poof but in reality they just ran away, he uses the poofing as a way to discourage Raven from not signing.
Second thing, Daring and Rosabella:
The two of them getting together actually makes sense. She changes his perspective on other people and himself where as Cerise just had minor interactions with him.
Thing number three, Dexter and Raven, Raven and Apple:
Okay bear with me because this is gonna be a lot.
Four, Raven and her mother:
In the show they don’t specify how Raven and her mother are, but you can see tension between the two of them and its obvious. In the books it shows more about how abusive the Evil Queen was to Raven. It makes more sense in that connotation.
Five, the incest stuff:
Honestly I’m just going to admit this point blank, the show probably didnt pay that much attention to this because of it being a show for kids. That’s what would make it make sense for there to be so many plot holes that we can’t fill.
And finally number six, The Story Book of Legends:
Basically to summarize so we can look at it all in one sitting; the simplified version.
It was still fun to listen to and gave me some knew perspective and thinking time.
i’d like to say i read all of that and it was v well put and you made great points!

I think it was hinted that darling was apple’s prince
I mean, Darling did do the wake-up kiss so Apple does have a ‘prince’ charming
Darling is Apple's destined prince. One of the writer of Dragon Games confirmed it.
Hmm there needs more things to be revealed but sadly the show got ended . If the show gets a reboot will they reveal these things or else will they make a new generation I don't know
@@voldetoad5967 it’s Ashlyn because Ashlyn is Cinderella’s daughter
I am SO glad people are bringing up EAH again! The books and the show will always have a place in my heart. The themes, the message, the CHARACTERS, the storytelling, the world-building... It was definitely something else. It was its own species. It was nothing short of a MASTERPIECE.
I know, I love ❤️ Ever After High.
Theory on how Ever After High could come back:
This theory is based off two things.
Hmmm, its gonna be interesting to see whats gonna happen after these new monster high releases
Didn’t ever after high go dormant cause of Disney’s descendants?

I had an obsession with royalty/ fantasy stories. So EAH and a book series called School for Good and Evil was my life during middle school. They’re very similar too, both are set in a magic school, taking after fairytale, wlw, are pretty grim at times and had heavy existentialism themes about destiny. I still adore them but the beginnings were much better then the endings ( EAH never had a proper end and SGE dragged on, I think the story hasn’t ended yet)
SGE had six books but there’ll technically be more now since Soman’s coming out with a prequel book (maybe series?).
@@andreamolinar6883 oh so it ended? How was it?
@@angelicafandino9877 it’s still one of my favorite book series & I was definitely satisfied with how it ended.
Istg the Charming siblings history it's so interesting, i love the characters and i wished we saw more of them in the series
We were robbed of the Ever After High Monster High crossover movie :((( But omg this rewrite sounds amazing and I am all FOR the angst you put I love spiceeeeee

I feel like Apple and Darling should end up together. Like it was hinted at and also when Darling “kissed” Apple to wake her, there was a spark of magic. Really great video btw!
That would've been so cool

@@laralia1972tbh, you could argue that it didn't work when Daring did it because he wasn't apple's actual true love (it said true love's kiss would save her)

Your idea might also explain why some fairytales have different variations.
there was a random information that Briar Beauty and Rosabella Beauty are cousins apparently (their mom's are sisters).
The Swan princess and her true love die in the stories, thus it's not a happily.
Darling's book at least showed more of the deep bond she has with her siblings, especially with Dexter, she literally consideres him her best friend and he promised her that he would rescue her in the future so she wouldn't have to marry some random guy, that was so precious!!! I wish we had more of them in the show
Ever After High >>>>>> Decedents
F for a series past...
(and the doll line was fire those were *quality)*
I've always thought that names (Snow White, Evil Queen etc.) will be given to characters as soon as their story "activates". Like, I don't know, their destinies
I like the idea these predetermined matches are linked to the fact that they are each now forced to take up namesakes. And having it just be a namesake means we have SOOOO many people having identity crises over living up to their parents and it contradicting their own ideals.
I always thought that the story book had been signed by many generations and went so far back that only the Grimm brothers could remember, like the immortal monsters they are
I’m sorry but Giles is not a monster
WHERE?? its the first ive heard about eah books
The brothers Grimm didn't actually come up with any of the stories, they just wrote them down on paper. I still get your point tho
I always assumed that when they graduated and followed their destiny their names were changed and that was the reason why there were so many previous snow whites that went to school
ohhhh that would be interesting

Fr, do something with Humphrey or something 😭
I'm glad he got with Rosabella in the end, good way to stop it
Daring's implied to be a bit of a player, imo it makes sense, since they are still highschoolers.

That legacy day scene where Raven watches the destiny that awaits her sold it for me. The book illustrations, the music, wow.
It gave me chills, it was so well done
2:02-2:05 Reminds me how I think of Apple's and Raven's relationship: Snow white's mother is the Evil Queen, if Raven is the daughter of the evil queen, that would make Snow White and Raven Queen siblings (Or step siblings?). And since Apple is Snow White's daughter, then that would make Raven her aunt. But I ignore this just so I could enjoy the story and not be confused throughout the series.
No no the evil queen depending on the story is sometimes the step mother or just a random queen
True but maybe the generation prior is not the first and when you take up the story u are given a new name
It’s also theorized since darling is the Prince Charming for Snow White, and Daring is the Beast for Beauty and the Beast, then that means Dexter is the Good King from Snow White he sure acts like he has a really sweet heart not to mention him and Raven being paired together
Also for the wonderland rabbit i headcanon that The white rabbit got with another full rabbit and they reproduced and magic was just out on their daughter making bunny Blanc be able to willingly switch back n’ forth between a human and bunny

Prince Charming marries Cinderella and their kid becomes the next Cinderella, but thankfully Sleeping Beauty has a brother so his kid can be the next Cinderella's prince.
re: the weird kids/incest thing:
i like your idea of being randomly assigned, but i also think it could work if they were adoptive children, OR (and this one is much more complicated) they’re sort of apprentices from a young age. either the kids choose (with their stellar judgement and reasoning /s) or they are assigned like you said.
then you can keep the sense of obligation because the kids have pledged to follow their destiny in return for their lavish childhood and magic powers or whatever, and they owe their fairy tale “parents” or there’s some magic blood pact stuff going on.
it also adds some conflict to the royals/rebels and gives a bit more stake to the royals’ side, because in this universe they would have made an agreement to their parents/the forces of the universe to go through with it. so when the rebels grow up and realise what “following their destiny” actually means for them and reject it, there’s a sense of betrayal and consequence, and you can have some fun and funky moral conflict.
idk if that makes sense i’m just rambling but yeah
“ easy for you to say apple, you get poisoned for what?! like a week?! “

(Because in the original Beauty and the Beast, they were first-degree cousins, apparently, normal stuff, normal stuff)
I loved the designs and how every character would feel and act about its destiny. CharmingXRosabelle was cute, I liked the twist. RavenXDexter, I saw that coming from miles away (a "spare" prince with no apparent storyline? Aaaand Raven's father was apparently a "spare"? :3)
I liked the rebels better, if only because their color palettes and motivations made more sense to me.
to the point about “what if you have twins?”, it’s whoever was born first. poppy and holly are actually twins and i remember an episode where they found out that holly was not actually the older twin like everybody had thought. this had meant that holly would be the one to take on the legacy, and poppy freaked out when she found out that she would have to sign the storybook given she was actually born first. they ended up keeping it a secret so poppy didn’t have to fill that role
Its Poppy and Holly
It's actually interesting to think about EAH's plot since there's a LOT of stuff going on that we can't really pinpoint that well.
1. Ever After High itself. Like why is the school there? I don't get how Snow White and Evil Queen could be an alumni and I'm so glad somebody talked about this. It would be better if Snow White is the founder of the school along with the Grimms brother because they're afraid of the disorder the Evil Queen could cause and Raven too, since Raven seems more powerful than her mother imo, that's why they have to bind her using magic so she'll eventually fail. Omg so creepy
So we can have an ending in EAH where they still achieve what they want AND follow the footsteps of their parents (if them diverging from it would actually cause harm)
Ending 1: Storybooks of Legends is real and they cant go against their destiny cuz they'll vanish (OR POSSIBLY THE STORY REWINDING OVER AND OVER IN THE BEGINNING UNTIL THEY GIVE IN 😱)
The ending will be more meta.
Ending 2: If the storybooks of legend isn't true and it's just orchestrated by Snow White (Im still sus of her idk why lol)
Imagine what Apple would do!
Okay, I'm gonna start talking about what I've read in that fanfic:
(I think, my memory is unsure.)
I rewatched it an month ago, it’s a masterpiece, I never got over it. I still have my 3 dolls from the show, love them 😭
I really like you mentioning the Grimm brother needing to know the end and the details on what happened, because the actual Grimm brothers compiled all the stories that previously were word of mouth only (and umm... changed a few things, so you may be closer to the real story than you think)
you’re doing gods work, honestly with how apple gets developed and the relationship between raven and her mom i always considered dragon games to be the real “ending” and sorta ignore epic winter because it’s more satisfying that way
I am a girl her in 2024 and I still miss Ever After High, I am so glad someone brings it up again (Even though this video was like 2 years ago), I really think we should bring back Ever After High!
thank you for addressing the parent / incest thing bc its been bothering me since i was 8😭. but i think the parents going to the school can be an easy fix. they dont have to be the first generation but maybe the most popular one? bc irl these stories (not all but yk) were inspired by other older less popular ones.
I got a skin care ad right as Headmaster Grimm said “snow white!” And after the ad she came out of the curtain. The irony-
I was thinking that the stories had been continuing over and over again throughout the years (explaining variations in fairytales over the years maybe, and some of the technical advancements in the show rather that traditional fairytales?) this could also reinforce the culture of having to sign the story book of legends.
I will NEVER let ever after high die, it will always live in my heart and if they ever re-continue the show I will deff watch
I always thought that Ashlynn was related to Darling, Daring, and Dexter cause they were the children of Prince Charming and the two Prince Charming I thought of was the one from Snow White and Cinderella. But if they’re the children of Snow White, they’d be related to Apple and that’s incest!!😰😰
So I just always think that Ashlynn, Darling, Daring, and Dexter were always siblings
Ever after high was literally my childhood.... Like literally! Raven was my daughter❤️😭
