The fact that Apple fell down a well and was traumatized about it, and Briar threw The Storybook of Legends down a well is such a cool thing for some reason
I believe it's said somewhere that *all* wonderland characters can hear the narrators, which makes for the other characters to think they're crazy, because they seem to always be talking to themselves, when in reality they are talking to the narrators i think that's so cool!
This is kind how I think of the whole charming thing: Let's pretend you know two people with the last name Smith- yet they aren't related/don't share a common ancestor. The reasons why they share why they share their name is because both of their ancestors were individually smiths. (Like the job.)
@@lorenacuenca6250 Bella sister is pretty but has an ugly personality and is followed around by flies & wasps, Brutta sister is "ugly" but has a beautiful personality & is followed around by cute little butterflies so people like her more which makes Bella jealous. One day the sisters were taking a walk by a pond and Bella attempted to kill Brutta by pushing her in the water to drown her, however Brutta's butterflies drowned before she did and their ghosts saved her and then then drowned Bella instead.
With shadow high, Cupid is actually in both shows and they actually show her going through a portal once in monster high or ever after I can’t remember
Cupid knows about the existence of both worlds, but she’s not supposed to tell anybody on either side about the other. I nearly wrote a crossover fic, similar to Shadow High, where a group of characters got transported across the border and Cupid was the only one who knew what was going on but it never ended up happening. I think I really just wanted to see Lizzie yell “Off with her head!” in front of Ms Bloodgood and she casually takes her head off and keeps talking because that’s just so normal to her but all the Ever After characters are freaking out
I found apple SO much less annoying in the books. She actually had motivation (see: well trauma) and we could tell that she was really kind and worked hard to be a good role model and that she wasn't just biased toward following her destiny just because she had a good one. Plus it made raven a little more complex by showing that she wouldn't have an awful life if she followed her destiny, she could actually be evil and enjoy it, she just chose not to because that's not who she was. Not everyone would make that choice, but most people would choose not to become a hated homeless woman like the storybook of legends shows in the show
True. I find it kind of strange because in the show there ARE moments that do show apple as a good person (she does do acts of service and she cares about the well being of her kingdom) but overall it does feel like she’s the way more selfish one. Man this is why I want a reboot.
@@hendersierra111it always fascinates me that people see Apple as the selfish one. Raven refused to sign the book without knowing whether or not it would cause the end of the world. That’s not even an exaggeration. Apple wanted her to bite the bullet and just sign so that the world wouldn’t cease to exist. Her being hung up on that isn’t selfish. Apple was willing to take some trauma herself, being chased out of home, poisoned, and then immediately take on the role of queen. That’s still a traumatic thing. I have a theory that it’s because people relate more to the outcast instead of the popular girl.
@alwaysrootingfortheantihero123 I mean Apple has a good destiny, and Raven has been essentially outcast for a role she's being FORCED to play. Apple has received love and adoration of everyone for following her destiny. But Raven never experienced that. People hate her for something she is EXPECTED to do! Raven has her whole life dictated by her destiny to the point she isn’t allowed to pursue hobbies that don't match her story! Headmaster Grimm literally didn't want Raven to take a music class lol. Just because she’s not a classic Princess! Apple is understandable but she kinda can be blind to other people's issues.
Amanda u literally go me back into ever after high after finding out there's a fandom that isn't dead but alive and kicking. I thank u for ur service bc tbh eah is one of the greatest things ever to grace mankind
It is stated in the show that EAH is a multi year school because at the start of the show when Apple is talking to Briar, she say “Legacy day is this year!” implying that there was a previous school year. Also, there’s a webisode where the students are picking new classes and this takes place after legacy day. Apple’s mom is definitely not the first Snow White because during Dragon Games when Snow is chastising Apple for not seeming dedicated enough to her story, Apple counters with “You know how much I heart our family tradition.” I personally don’t think she’d phrase it like that if she was going to be the first to carry the torch.
i believe there's 4 years because legacy day has all the students gathered, and it says first years are excited while the third and fourth years are smug
@@stephaniezhang9600 (this is based on the show, because it makes some sense with the ages) something that I have considered, after Ashlynn, who is apparently 14, had signed the Storybook of Legends dispite her friends being 15 or 16 and haven't signed, is that maybe different stories have different school starting years. To me, if the characters are in their 2nd year (the wiki says so) and somehow Ashlynn has signed it already, she might be a 3rd year because she is a child in the beginning of her story and it's an important part that she is a year younger when her mother "dies" and a year later, her father remarried. Therefore, she might need to be in the story for a year longer than the step-sisters, so to make sure that, even if the step-sisters are the same age as that gens Cinderella, she will still be able to get in the story before the step-sisters. Extra thing! I think that if a child is born in the story, they will be created by magic within the storyline. If there is a non-important child character in the story, they are not real, just a magical child because you can't really throw a random child into a story and expect them to behave correctly. So, if you are born within the story (and even if you grew up) you just pop into the world at whatever age you end up being in the story, but with the knowledge that you are in a story since they can't do anything within the story. I have overanalysed this story quite a bit, so pls excuse the long comment, lol
I love how we still love ever after high even while we're literally talking abt how there are so many plot holes in the story of both the books & series. It's like ever after high has as many plot holes as they have potential to be a good story
Well, to be fair, the writers would probably write something pretty tight and then Mattel would come in and say "We need to sell more dolls, add a costume change to this." Or " We need to sell more toys, add in cute little dragon pets!" and then the writers would have to scramble to add in stuff they hadn't planned on and make it all work.
Is Dexter not the good king to Raven’s evil queen? That would have made for a really interesting storyline if EAH had continued because it would throw something Raven actually cared about into her choice to not sign the storybook of legends.
@@mintfroggi506 Basically the story changes for each generation and it’s described in the books as basically them taking on a role in the play so raven and apple are not related there’s always a prince picked to be the good king for the story
@@obehiikhigbonoaremen1241 I wish they would've made a season about Neverland and embraced Apple's gay arc. They honestly left out A LOT of things in the show.
@theshadowhunterknight Yes! Like Headmaster Grimm, literally deciding to BANISH Maddie to punish Raven in book 3!!!!!! WTF??? This is one of the reasons I HATE his character in the books! He's so nasty for no reason!
the way I always assumed the whole family tree succession stuff worked was that the eldest child of would fulfill their parents destiny and the younger siblings would go fill the roles that needed successors
@@kayleeholder5755 Which brings up an interesting point for stories where the gender doesnt influence the story. Mostly the Wonderlandians i think? Almost none of them align, but that's not really treated as a problem
@@kayleeholder5755 I know this is super late, but I just realize that also could not be true since the son of Alice from wonderland is also faded to be the next Alice?
the way the books tried referencing music stars took me out. there's a reference to taylor swift, but the author changed it to 'tailor quick' (because you know, tailor sounds exactly like taylor and the word 'swift' is a synonym for quick). shannon also made a direct reference to one direction and their song 'what makes you beautiful', but she made the group's name 'one reflection' and the song title is 'you don't know you're charming' (probably because direction and reflection rhymed, and a popular lyric in the mentioned song is 'you don't know you're beautiful). it was really corny, gave me a good laugh.
I think the visions they get of their destiny from the book are what they think their destiny is gonna turn out like. Raven was afraid it might extend to conquering other worlds so she saw that. Daring thought he would save Apple so he saw that even if it doesn’t work out in reality.
I was wondering about that because Apple saw Daring in the vision the book gave her but it was Darling who saved her And he turned out to be the Beast… I wonder if the book shows what you think your destiny is because it wasn’t the real story book of legends? I mean wasn’t the real one hidden by the evil queen? Maybe the spell put on the fake one only allowed it to show what the person thought they’re destiny was
Fun fact: during my stay in the psych ward I developed a mild obsession with the ever after high books. I was there for a week and had a notebook about halfway filled with theories and analysis. I am an 18 year old boy. I was 17 when I did this.
when i was super stressed and recovering from a lockdown related mental health breakdown + burnout, i binged 7 seasons of my little pony AND watched all of sofia the first and let me tell you it helped me so much. i think it’s the way that it allows you to immerse yourself in a fantasy world without the expectation of real world pains. esp since it’s a kids show bc then you can watch something very lighthearted and fun.
i HIGHLY suggest reading the “Class of Classics” graphic novel, there you get to see what everyone else’s parents looks like esp back when they were the students!! And it’s interesting that Dexter is in fact NOT the only one in the family to have glasses, his own father was JUST LIKE HIM back in high school!
I think that only the first born child follows the parent's destiny, so everytime a fairy tale character has several children (which I suppose most of them do as it is widely known that their happily ever afters consist of raising BIG happy fammilies) they can go on to join any story like Poppy O'Hair probably filling the rebel roles is from a rebel background and royal if from a royal family
yeah it's usually the first born with the exception of the Charming family (and other undescriptive prince/princess families too) because there's always a need for a prince/princess in a story
I never thought about the Cinderella fate to die before your daughter’s story began I always thought the Cinderella fate is like the best, better than Snow White’s But now thinking of it, she would have to live as a maid, than marry a man that she doesn’t love and can’t even remember her face and then she has to die young for her daughter Wow, that is dark Wait a minute, In Snow White, the Evil Queen is her step mom and her mom also died, so does that mean Technically, Snow White would also have to die when Apple’s Story begins Wow, and that speaks a lot about Apple’s actual personality
Though remember that Snow White is ADAMANT about Apple following her destiny, keeping up the tradition, being queen, so I would say that Apple choosing to essentially sign her mothers death warrant, isn't nessecarily to do with her being power hungry/self centered or anything, and she probably feels she has no choice otherwise she will be letting down her family. Potentially her mother may have lied about the fate too, perhaps just that she goes off somewhere else for a while, and not that she dies. Because her mother would have had to face her mothers (apples grandmothers) death, and apples grandmother would have faced her mothers death, and so on, perhaps its seen as a rite of passage. Basically I don't think we can remove Apple from the context of her family when judging her on the decision to sign the book.
I do know that EAH is basing their stories off of the original Grimms Brother stuff (Giles and Miles ofc), so the Cinderella version involves cutting off part of a foot so the stepsisters can fit in the glass slipper and their eyes being poked out by birds. Snow White, the Evil Queen danced to death in red hot shoes. Sleeping Beauty, was r4ped in her sleep. Little Mermaid. Walking with feet is like walking on knives, it's painful. Plus, murdering her prince but killed herself. Since they are omitted bc EAH was marketed for kids, imagine if they were the actual legacies the students will have to follow.
Also the men in both stories will basically be _forced_ to marry a evil woman who they _know_ is going to abuse their children, after their one true love _dies._ The they will die and leave their daughters to the women they know are evil without seeing their happy ending. That’s pretty traumatic
@@emiliereal1520 yeah you read that right some drunk king went to her castle, saw sleeping beauty, went "oh she's beautiful imma seggs," then left, the baby was birthed throughout the 100 years, when sleeping beauty (and the castle) woke up they were wondering whose baby that is (well, the father) so uh yeah
I distinctly recall Maddie and the whole Jabberwocky incident. I remember there was a poem middle book, about the tree the vorpal sword (which could kill the JW) was in. Pretty sure I used an excerpt from that as a monologue for a drama festival as a kid-
11:00 uh in sequels to the Disney Cinderella, Anastasia lowkey gets a redemption arc, marries some baker boy from the town, makes up with Cinderella who is at that point the future queen, and gets her own happily ever after, so maybe that’s why they mentioned Ashlyn’s step aunt living with her mom, because they’re on good terms after the book truly closes. However, this makes the step sisters running the library in the show make significantly less sense
Yeah, in Cinderella 3 she was a good person, just forced into doing what her mother wanted. Though as far as I remember, Drizella got turned into a rat?
like how is there the step aunt and the step sisters unless the aunt is tremaine or something ang the step sisters and anastasia and drizella - Unless they are from another generation
I remember being lowkey interested in reading the books because Shannon Hale wrote the amazing Goose Girl and Book of a Thousand Days... she's a good writer, and the ever after high series was super cute. good combo
Honestly I remember reading the Ever After High Series and then finding the Goose Girl series and realizing how large of a sub genre fairytale retellings are! True child hood though!💗📚
The plot of the MH/EAH crossover book was ALSO the plot of a cancelled MH/EAH crossover movie. The only difference is that it was set in the pre-reboot Monster High universe, and Clawdeen got to go with Frankie and Draculaura. I remember seeing storyboard animatics on TH-cam, and Apple asks Clawdeen if she was a relative of Beauty and the Beast. Both of these versions, however, have a big, Cupid shaped plot hole. As in, wouldn't Cupid have told the Ever After High kids where she used to go to school?
See I see it as she couldn’t. Since she was able to travel between those worlds she could be on the same level as the narrators, a different type of being, especially since I believe she is the daughter of a Greek god it would make sense for a higher being to not be allowed to talk about the other worlds. Could cause chaos.
So true! Honestly when I read the book I was super upset that Cupid wasn't apart of it but other than that I did really enjoy it, but it honestly made me wonder if Maddie and kitty can hear narrator's (we already know they know about MH) could they possibly gain the ability to travel through universe's since their from wonderland?
Apple: “We’re supposed to be FRIENEMIES!!” Anywho, there is one book that you missed, “A Tale Of Two Sisters” was also written by Shanon Hale and provides more details for what happened to the siblings.
Saw a theory somewhere (dont remember where) that Apple is actually the daughter of the Evil Queen and Raven the daughter of Snow White. Lowkey fitting with some things in the book and u said in ur vid. Do with that as u will. Had for a big part to do with Apple being the first blonde in the family line and the Evil queen having been seen with white/blonde hair as a teen (I mean the dark purple her and Raven have can just be dyed or perhaps a result of their magic).
I saw the same theory from foreverskysthelimit and I had that idea that they might have been swapped as children after watching the webisode when Apple talks to her magical mirror asking if she is the fairest of the school. Usually, an Evil Queen would ask a question like that but when I saw the video, that was when I begun to think about it and when I watched foreverskysthelimit, I think that this is canon but I’m sure that it will never be.
The only reason I don't believe this theory is because in the books it's specifically said that it's scary how much Raven and the Evil Queen look alike
As someone who finally got the entire series, I highly recommend the Suzanna Selfors series of EAH books. They do a great job at developing other more minor characters (Duchess, Ginger, etc.) and they changed my opinions on many ships (started shipping Duchess and Sparrow more, introduced me to the idea of Hopper and Ginger as a ship, etc.) There are quite a few, but none of them are super long, and they’re very good!
@@autumnrose9655 No, it’s not actually canon technically. It’s never even brought up again besides in that one book, so I don’t think you have to worry about it
Yes! Finally someone who acknowledge those books! I used to read them all the time and simply loved how they portrait minor characters. I just wish more people talk about those "spin-offs".
What else I adore about the books is that Shannon Hale allows characters to be morally nuanced, like Lizzie Hearts is so much more interesting and complex in the books.
Fan theroy: The whole world of ever after is a lie, or more accurately a work of fiction written by Milton and Giles. And the versions of themselves within ever after are self inserts. Milton wanted a steady formula on how to write characters while Giles wanted to mix it up a bit. So Milton cursing him with the babble spell is the equivalent of throwing him out of the writers room. This also explains why none of them are attached to a story and why Milton says: what I say is law. Because if he was the one writing the stories of the characters, it would be true. That’s also how he has such unchallenged authority and why he has such a clear vision for the role each character plays in the universe. (I mean seriously, have you TRIED to critique or change something an author wrote? They hate that.) I think they should bring ever after back, and make everyone self aware of this fact.
lmao very out of context but it took 3 seperate ppl to convince me to remove the gangs aspect of my supernatural psychological thriller novel that i'm writing (don't ask how the gangs became a major part of it but it did as did romeo and juliet influences and this queer love this that for whatever reason involved the perception of being cheated on- as in character thought he was getting cheated on), but now i'm rewriting w/o the gangs aspect which idk why is rlly hard.
They do actually discuss the whole stepmom dilemma in the first book, and in the second book its mentioned that not everyone really replicates their story perfectly anyway (ex: the witch from Hansel and Gretel has an escape hatch in her oven so she doesn't die)
I headcannon that Bella and Brutta ended up in monster high or somehow broke the 4th wall and live with the readers. They said they would end up in a place where destines didn't matter so it might be true.
I think you’re missing the best part of Yesterday. Raven visits the candy witch, and the witch tells her that even if you’re slated to die in your story, you can survive if you’re clever. So if you manage to hide yourself you can live. Ashylyn’s mom probably wouldn’t die etc...
Man, I was only guy I knew who was into this and Monster High(still am as far as I know), I even went as far to make my own little ocs and fanfics for them. Honestly, I was surprised to see someone had recently made a video about EAH, but also rather happy that its still being talked about. Definitely gonna subscribe, just in case y'know.
Cedar's/Lizzie's stories during the third book were so heartbreaking! Like Lizzie being homesick and Cedar just wanting to be real! And everything was so intense!
I think the charming system works likes this:there are side and main families, the side families could mate with the peasants or other royals when needed ,while the main must fulfill the main story in this case being Cinderella .
the genetic family trees definitely confused me as a kid but what really confused me was how Briar would be able to even fulfill her story at all if it’s supposed to start for her after signing the storybook…cause her story starts with her christening when she’s a newborn lmao
i mean i figured that the christening happened when she was an infant, that one fairy was left out like in the original tale, and then after briar signs the book. she'll go home, get her finger stabbed, and conk out for the next 100 years
It brings up other points as wel for me. Like Alistair as Alice should have fulfilled his story already? Not only does the story take place when Alice is young, but a major point of the story is exploring Wonderland? How does that work when he basically lives there?
@@Sammy_The_Umbreonallistair doesnt need a destiny, he and bunny went to wonderland high school, they dont need it, maddie lizzie and others are in ever after just because evil queen went mad
I had a similar experience with these books, from the first one I just remembered that Raven decided to dress in whatever she had on already for Legacy Day except the cape, and that in the second one that Holly and Poppy made rope out of their hair. Also I just remember I was very confused by the third book as a child…
Okay. But, like, imagine: The Ghouls are freaking out over Fairytales being real and vice versa. And then C.A. Cupid isn't aware the Ghouls are there, so she comes to ask Apple for a book she borrowed. The Ghouls recognize her voice. "Cupid?" Draculaura asks timidly. "Is that you?" Cupid finally looks up from her Mirror tablet, eyes wide. "Draculaura? Frankie? Oh, my ghoul!" She easily slips back into her Monster High slang. "You ghouls looks fangtastic!" She rushes over to hug them, the trio crying tears of joy. "Cupid, everyone was so worried about where you went!" Frankie exclaims. "Headmistress Bloodgood said you were being homeschooled. Did she know?" Cupid shakes her head. "She couldn't have. I stumbled into this world by accident via mirror portal." Apple and Raven share looks before Raven steps forward. "Wait a spell! You three know each other?"
I'm very glad you made a video on the books of Ever After High Honestly when I first read them I was blown away by the more depth to the characters, the plot of the story and its circumstances, and above all the lore in the Ever After High world. It seriously makes me want a reboot of this story because it's just mind blowing how the writing of this franchise made it really more then just a cute show to sell dolls
Shannon Hale did such a wonderful job with the books, so she should be in charge of the Ever After High reboot. Each of the 4 books she wrote could be a season!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
You see since there are so many “peasants” which have fairytales designs like pirates so perhaps instead they’re just fairytale characters from different schools? Like high school/secondary school, so example perhaps some fairytale from Brazil, not mainstream can go to another school, and ever after high is like the most prestigious/well known school? And the legend book may be magical so everyone who attends the school will automatically have their destiny added there magically like how raven tried to read before and there was nothing. So all those Prince Charming are in demand, I’m sure there are lots of stories out there we may not know that have Prince Charmings.
YESSSS people should really talk about the books more! They are my absolute favorite part of EAH because of all the worldbuilding and characterization they add to the series!! I’m so stoked you made a video about them!!
Daring basically got the beasts destiny in the show when he got cursed. So he might not be Prince Charming's (from Snow White) son. But with Darling and Apple it would mean you don't necessarily take on you parent's destiny.
I think your right but I also think it only applies to certain types of characters. Like charming, they are all prince/princesses. And the prince in lots of stories aren’t exactly named. They are just “the prince”.
if yall want a Raven x Apple romance, i highly recommend the Malice duology by Heather Walter!! it's not set at a school but it's a Sleeping Beauty retelling where the Maleficent character and Aurora fall in love, and hoooo boy i love it so much. they gave me big Raven and Apple vibes in the first book
does anyone remember when ramona is introduced and when her and LLRH start fighting, their dad comes out of a class and starts doing the little chinny-chin-chin wolf thing of "and i'll huff, and i'll puff" like does that mean the stories r connected ??
Technically the big bad wolf its in both stories, little red riding hood and the three little pigs, so Ramona should do 2 stories just as hunter has to do 2, snow white and little red riding hood, so yeah some of the stories are connected by the characters, its messy :v
I remember reading the books as a little kid and getting really excited when One Direction made a cameo appearance in "Once Upon a Time". I think Apple mentions somewhere in the book that she's listening to What Makes You Beautiful, and then after her story, there's this whole list of One Direction songs that are fairy tale spoofs. I thought it was really cool at the time, but now, looking back on it, I think it was pretty creative that they took the time to research the songs and pick out nice titles for them.
I have My theory about all this generations of characters , as we know the fairytales had been changeging trought years so that explain all the generations of school . Also i read somewhere that prince charmings doesn't have a destiny since they're born instead they get their destiny depending on their personality and actitud. Like for example Darling Is brave and heroic like snowwhite's prince is supose to be , and although Daring heroic too ,he also Is very selfish and selfcenter like Belle'prince Is .
Storybook of legends was the one I had. It literally slayed, like the whole fake story thing? The way Apple was squinting before Raven called her out on it? The plot was just perfection to little me.
I write my EAH fanfiction as a fusion of the book and series lore. The school story (Next Top Villain etc) books have completely different POV characters to anything else, and the first 3 come with a companion diary that lets you write branching versions of the story like the end of Shadow High (which is, indeed, post-reboot; Moanica is a reboot exclusive character). There’s also a series of Twisted Tales where Faybelle messes with their midterms where the students get sent into and have to resolve other people’s stories, they’re super interesting, I just wish it hadn’t been cancelled before they released the last 2. One was going to be Duchess, as Rapunzel, being saved by Darling and THE BEST IDEA THIS FRANCHISE HAS EVER COME UP WITH, Kitty as the Little Mermaid, Apple as the sea witch. WE WERE ROBBED!!!!!!
Congratulations on your first sponsor! Happy to see you grow. Have you watched arcane? The genre isn't ...um...Disney like in the slightest. It's isn't bright colours and all, it might not be your thing but it's a really really really good show. After the first 3 episodes you will not be able to put it down at all. Best animation Eveeeeeeerrr!!!! I hope you will give a try and hey, maybe make a video about it?
Seconded, Arcane is very good. You don't need any LoL lore to get into it, the plot is great, there's a hell of a lot of angst with good comfort moments interspersed, soundtrack is *chefs kiss*.
*Cough* monster high *cough* Also in one of the books, ounce upon a time book I believe, we are given the story of what happens to the two sisters and they say their going down the well to go to a world where they don’t have to follow their destiny
I literally just donated my copies of these books and this makes me wanna cry. I am glad some new people will get to enjoy them as much as I did though.
I never knew there were EAH books but I was a huge Monster High novel girlie. Those books banged so hard in my 11 year old head, and tbh I’d still read em’.
Also your thing on Faybelle in Dragon Games, remmeber in epic winter she was in like debt to the fairy mafia or something and helped them. So she is not above teaming with shady people if it gets her what she wants
If you read the books by Suzanne Selfors they go into deeper about the characters they are about. Like Next Top Villain talks about the life Duchess Swan and Lizzie Hearts, and for A Semi-Charming Kind of Life shows some of the true colors of the blue charmings.
i knew it was multiple years because in the show whenever raven talked about dorming with maddie usually, but i didn't realize the structure of the different years so that was fun to hear!
I always saw it as the oldest was the one to carry on the legacy, and that's why Briar is sleeping beauty, all of her other siblings don't have a specific legacy. I think that this is backed up by rapunzles twins, holly is younger so doesnt have a set desteny, and poppy is supposed to be rapunzle, but holly wants to be rapunzle so they have to hide their birth order. So I think the question then, is if the second child will fill the role of a missing child, like briars brothers, like as a lesser role, or do they make their own destiny and their kids have to take that role?
Really love this video!! One thing I loved about the books is throughout the main three books its implied that raven ripping out the storybook of legends damaged the evil queen prison and she is slowly working on escaping. I was so sad when sharron haley didnt continue writing for the series because I wanted to see what the evil queen being back would do.
I only ever read the books, didnt even know there were dolls or movies i just loved the books and dressed up as madelins hatter for book week. I still have thd costume
I had a box set of the three main books and I loved them to death, I eventually sold the first two because I *loved* the third one with every fiber of my being. when I finished it I would just read it again and again. Maddie was hands down my favorite, and I loved that she and some of the secondary characters got to star in this one. (Also the aesthetic is **chef's kiss*)*
This probably isn't why it is this way but i love that the whole system of the book and following the destiny doesn't make sense, it's not supposed to, like... if it makes sense then people don't rebel so of course it doesn't. And generally any system that you establish in this way is going to have flaws which i think it's just a thing that's imposible to avoid because that also happens in real life
There’s actually something called “the lost movie” which is like the story board for the ever after high x monster high crossover that was hinted at with original cast voiceovers. It’s here on TH-cam for free. It looks like they already basically made the movie with the vas and everything but never finished the animation bc ever after high ended… you should check it out and see how it compares to the legend of shadow high which guess would be the book equivalent
from what i remember in the show, fairytales have like an inheriting system. since holly is older than poppy, she gets to follow the rapunzel story and poppy can do whatever i guess!!
I was OBSESSED with the EAH books particularly the wonderland book mainly because I loved fantasy, and as a nerodivergent kid I heavily related to the wonderlandians because “OMG THEIR WEIRD LIKE ME!!! THEY DONT MAKE SENSE TO EVERYONE ELSE!!” (I was an adhd kid in a regular school who was bullied for being different ofc I loved them). I loved that Maddie took control of the story and REWROTE THE BOOK to win against the japperwocky.
At 7:23 i think you mentioned how you wondered about the stylistic choice of making Apple blonde, there's a theory that she's actually the evil queens daughter, which is a cool theory, but i think the actual reason for her being blonde is them going with the Grimm's version of how Snow White looked like in 'Snow White and Rose Red'
@@TuesdaysArt hmm well actually it would be a mixture of both if their hair types but Eah isn’t really that realistic with how they do hair genetics otherwise things would be different.
about the "choose your own ending" in shadow high: i remember seeing something like that in a goosebumps book, so its a concept that has been used before. i didnt get how it was supposed to work though since i think i was like nine or ten and i was. not the brightest crayon in the box, so to speak.
I have an answer about the attendance thing. not every year will have a Snow White or sleeping beauty - they can be populated with other less-known folktale characters. Whenever a character has a child and they're at the age for high school they attend. Raven actually asks Apple about this and she says everything will just work since the Evil Queen is Snow White's stepmother. Not everything in the stories is exactly the same but everything falls into place because of the magic.
I remember that somewhere it is mentioned, that Bella and her sister ran away, because Bella found a fountain, that will bring them to another world. A fountain that leads to another world/realm? Kinda sounds like that fountain, that leads to Wonderland. What if Bella and her sister ran away to Wonderland?

I think the school just let's royals or people who have royal ancestors or blood just go to the school wether there not related to a fairytale character or not,I also noticed that in the book signing scene that in the background all the seats were not filled,so I think that part is just for the fairytale kids to do.
i actually got into eah through the books, and i didnt know there even was a show for several years after. like my friends had the dolls and stuff, kid me just thought that a doll line got a novelization and nothing else.

My main issue with how Raven is treated is how people hate her for something she HAS to do, and she's been bullied for the role she's supposed to play. Regardless of the fact that deep down she's a kind girl who wants peace. Like her father had a lasting influence on her, he was the parent she got along better with. But she has to deal with Duchess being a brat to her, Sparrow and his gang bullying her. Headmaster Grimm being a control freak because even if Raven is a Princess she's not a "Happily Ever After" Princess so she isn’t allowed to take a Muse-ic class because it's only for classic Princesses???? Ravens entire life is dictated by her destiny but in a negative way because she's supposed to sacrifice her personality, interests, and self-determination to be sentenced to a life of people hating her for something they WANT her to do! If Raven tries to be herself, she's treated cruelly and bullied by people, if she lives up to the role she doesn't want to play. She's damned if she does, damned if she doesn't! I love Apple a lot, she has so much character depth, but Apple fans can acknowledge Raven doesn't have it easy and the choices she's being asked to make for the sake of their "destinies" require her to live an unhappy life. She will recieve NO enjoyment or praise for doing what she's told. If she followed her destiny in the books she would LITERALLY have to give up her sense of self and interests. But that gets lost in the conversation somehow???? Like wtf??? I hate how fans reduce Ravens character to "i just wanna be edgey!" When that's not true, if Apple is complex so is Raven! It isn't black and white! The tv show erases so much of the EAH characters complexity but the books add so much character depth! So to see fans who read the books disregard Raven so easily is so sad!

Not everyone would make that choice, but most people would choose not to become a hated homeless woman like the storybook of legends shows in the show
Yeah
@@alwaysrootingfortheantihero123 also Apple was basically brainwashed since birth to believe that everyone signing the book would be beneficial.
Also the dorming situation. Raven makes it clear she always dorms with Maddie. And Apple says how she used to dorm with Briar.
i believe there's 4 years because legacy day has all the students gathered, and it says first years are excited while the third and fourth years are smug

I never thought about the Cinderella fate to die before your daughter’s story began
I always thought the Cinderella fate is like the best, better than Snow White’s
But now thinking of it, she would have to live as a maid, than marry a man that she doesn’t love and can’t even remember her face and then she has to die young for her daughter
Wow, that is dark
Wait a minute, In Snow White, the Evil Queen is her step mom and her mom also died, so does that mean Technically, Snow White would also have to die when Apple’s Story begins
Wow, and that speaks a lot about Apple’s actual personality

And ngl, it might fit since there are a lot of renditions of fairy tales that aren't true to the original too. Even contemporary ones.
True! Also is nice parallel to the real life brothers Grimm!

They do actually discuss the whole stepmom dilemma in the first book, and in the second book its mentioned that not everyone really replicates their story perfectly anyway (ex: the witch from Hansel and Gretel has an escape hatch in her oven so she doesn't die)

Cupid finally looks up from her Mirror tablet, eyes wide. "Draculaura? Frankie? Oh, my ghoul!" She easily slips back into her Monster High slang. "You ghouls looks fangtastic!"
She rushes over to hug them, the trio crying tears of joy. "Cupid, everyone was so worried about where you went!" Frankie exclaims. "Headmistress Bloodgood said you were being homeschooled. Did she know?"
Cupid shakes her head. "She couldn't have. I stumbled into this world by accident via mirror portal."
Apple and Raven share looks before Raven steps forward. "Wait a spell! You three know each other?"
Love the scene except I don’t think she went to EAH on accident. The show made it seem like it was purposely done.
@@totallytorivideos 💜💜💜 thanks! And you’re totally right! She did step through it intentionally! I had forgotten until you just mentioned it!
I'm very glad you made a video on the books of Ever After High
Honestly when I first read them I was blown away by the more depth to the characters, the plot of the story and its circumstances, and above all the lore in the Ever After High world.
@@totallytorivideosTrue!
if yall want a Raven x Apple romance, i highly recommend the Malice duology by Heather Walter!! it's not set at a school but it's a Sleeping Beauty retelling where the Maleficent character and Aurora fall in love, and hoooo boy i love it so much. they gave me big Raven and Apple vibes in the first book
The Suzanne Selfors books were also very enjoyable. I don’t remember them being as plot heavy, but they did explore certain characters more.
does anyone remember when ramona is introduced and when her and LLRH start fighting, their dad comes out of a class and starts doing the little chinny-chin-chin wolf thing of "and i'll huff, and i'll puff" like does that mean the stories r connected ??
As someone who first discovered Ever After High from the books, I think this is a great video
Amazing!
*coughs quietly and slides you a $20* where might i find this fanfiction of yours, if it does exist?
The link, please 🥺
Link bro, pliz
Pleeease a link
"Hunter, no! For one thing you're a vegan!!" 💀💀💀
You don't need any LoL lore to get into it, the plot is great, there's a hell of a lot of angst with good comfort moments interspersed, soundtrack is *chefs kiss*.
these books seem really cool, i'd love to read them one day
As someone who's read them multiple times I highly recommend!
@@outokana2632 nice to know!!
if the problem of you not being able to read them is not having a copy, i might know a link to a gdrive containing pdf versions of the books 👀👀👀
@@lissyanne3885 libgen also has them for free!
@@lissyanne3885 omg can you pass me the links pls 🙏🏻
i’m pretty sure the show also says it’s a 4 year school, at least they mention they are in there second year (legacy year)
*Cough* monster high *cough*
Also in one of the books, ounce upon a time book I believe, we are given the story of what happens to the two sisters and they say their going down the well to go to a world where they don’t have to follow their destiny
I feel like each time the stories reoccur, it's like a new version of the story, not the exact same just the same general idea
"All the names of the Charmings are positive adjectives"
Ah yes, my favorite adjective... Dexter
It's short for Dexterous 😂😂😂😂
@@obehiikhigbonoaremen1241 Lmao. I'm pretty sure I canonically read somewhere that there was a guy named Good Enough Charming
@theshadowhunterknight Yes! It was one of Dexter/Daring's Cousin's!
30:20 that’s so fricking wierd omg, C.A Cupid is literally there and from Monster high but ig she’s either not in the books or she transferred after.
Me too! Shannon Hale is an amazing author!!!!
OK you GOTTA read ever after high books: a school story these seven books flesh out the characters SO much and is just such a fun read!
That could be true however Apple’s dad is probably a blonde
@@lisablue9590 If her mom has black hair and her dad is blond, she'd have brown hair.
@@TuesdaysArt hmm well actually it would be a mixture of both if their hair types but Eah isn’t really that realistic with how they do hair genetics otherwise things would be different.
Okay, you've convinced me. I'll go read the books. It sounds so much more interesting than the show.
about the "choose your own ending" in shadow high: i remember seeing something like that in a goosebumps book, so its a concept that has been used before. i didnt get how it was supposed to work though since i think i was like nine or ten and i was. not the brightest crayon in the box, so to speak.
the puppy part in ravens backstory absolutely scarred me as a kid
I have an answer about the attendance thing. not every year will have a Snow White or sleeping beauty - they can be populated with other less-known folktale characters. Whenever a character has a child and they're at the age for high school they attend. Raven actually asks Apple about this and she says everything will just work since the Evil Queen is Snow White's stepmother.
Not everything in the stories is exactly the same but everything falls into place because of the magic.
@Madeline Hatterhi
That’s a new one. I’ve always seen people imply that they found a way to go to monster high.
the fact that I could probably listen to you reading all the books out loud and not get bored once..
I'm in love with your voice and how you got so exited when reading some of the parts
A can not believe they made the crossover with gen 2 MH. The storyboards for the movie showed such a good story, plus there is so much set up for it in MH gen 1!!!
there is so much drama in the books why didn't they do this in the show
i would have loved to see all this drama play out in the show
I think the school just let's royals or people who have royal ancestors or blood just go to the school wether there not related to a fairytale character or not,I also noticed that in the book signing scene that in the background all the seats were not filled,so I think that part is just for the fairytale kids to do.
The dexter thing is really just early story raven being totally oblivious. She only realizes later
i actually got into eah through the books, and i didnt know there even was a show for several years after. like my friends had the dolls and stuff, kid me just thought that a doll line got a novelization and nothing else.
In one of the Suzanne Selfirs books an author in-universe is named Shannon Tale which I find hilarious
Oooh. This brings memories. The books were sooo good. I wish they couldve continued more
i vividly remember being obsessed about these and the monster high books as a kid and being so furious that the series weren't like the books. the monster high books are so different
thank you for reminding me of a chapter of my childhood! also i had no idea the crossover was made into a book!!! now i have to go read it
My main issue with how Raven is treated is how people hate her for something she HAS to do, and she's been bullied for the role she's supposed to play.
Your ever after high videos are always so addicting
Oh my god, the scene of Raven tearing apart her page is SO GOOD. It does sound a lot like school of good and evil, and I'm here for it.
