This episode was so epic. Gunji versus the Trandoshans in their battle-worn camouflaged sep tanks in the forests of Kashyyyk was a level of a badassery I was not expecting. May The Force Be With Big Gunjiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
It's kind of funny and a bit ironic (for me) because not more than 2-3 days ago I had watched the Metanerdz video on the complete breakdown of the Trandoshans which mentions their association with the Empire. Then this new Bad Batch episode totally collaborates on that. Not to mention the breakdown on the separatists' tanks post-Clone Wars role in the Empire era.
So happy to see to see Gungi survived. However he will likely be hunted down and killed by Vader, the inquisitors or the Empire.

Eeeeh we'll see. I mean, Reva survived by a lightsaber blade in the chest so why not Gungji survived that similar fate? Then again, that's Disney to decide, not Vader's. How weird on how it works now. 😂

When I saw Gungi I legit shouted out loud. I was so excited. Absolutely love the character and he has one of my favorite lightsaber designs.

Gungji's lightsaber is pretty awesome. You should look also Master Tyvokka's (also a wookiee) curved wooden lightsaber, it is gorgeous. 😍

A few years ago I told my cousin, "It would be so cool if the wookie Padawan from those Clone Wars episodes survived Order 66 and joined the future Jedi Order after Episode IX."
He said, "He probably didn't survive."
You can feel free to crash your car through your cousin's house and promptly slap him for his incorrect assumption.

To be fair, Gungi is not the "first" young wookiee jedi, just the Last Republic one... we must still remember our Legends and Lowbacca, nephew of Chewbacca and student at the ABY Jedi Praexeum alongside Jacen and Jania Solo.
I know it’s against the Jedi way yadda yadda Yaddle, but a pissed off Jedi Wookie using the force to rip off Trooper arms is a satisfying thought.
"Droids don't pull people's arms out of their sockets when they lose. Wookies are known to do that..., and don't get me started on what a Wookie Jedi does when they face a Trandoshan who's joined the Empire and has been ravaging the Wookie home world of Kashyyyk."
I remember the episode when he built his light saber. It is one of the coolest looking in Star Wars.
The entire "mini-series" of the younglings/Ahsoka Tano within the "Clone Wars" series is one of my favorite story-arcs of that series.
It had a lot of references to The Old Republic MMO, which was pretty awesome. But the high point for me was the rematch between Ahsoka and Grievous.
This video just made me think that a very cool high republic show could be structured around a group of younglings being trained in the Jedi temple, Hogwarts-style. You'd get to see them learn and grow and really get to understand the inner workings of the ideal Jedi order. Yoda would also be a selling point. I mean, clearly there's a demand for actual baby Yoda, and once we learn more about Grogu we can compare and contrast their stories. Could be really neat
Good call. That would be a great show to produce. I mean, you could add Reva into the mix, and even that one youngling who almost makes it out to Bail Organa... possibilities are infinite.
Yea there was actually a young adult novel called lost stars that did the same thing with imperials in the academy very well done
The Jedi Youngling episodes in Clone Wars where Gungi appears was actually first conceived to be a standalone show.
@@wildscreenwriter I can see that. The whole younglings/Ahsoka "mini-series" is one of my favorites of the entire "Clone Wars" series. One part that really cracks me up is when Hondo first shows up on the transport ship to steal the Kyber crystals and Ahsoka confronts him about it, questioning Hondo about helping the Jedi during the insurrection on Onderon then trying to rob the younglings. Of course, Hondo reminds Ahsoka that he's a pirate and Kyber crystals are worth a fortune on the black market. 😄

I have a bad feeling that Gungi will eventually bite the dust when the Empire comes knocking on Kasshyykk with Darth Vader showing up in The Force Unleashed prologue.
The Force Unleashed games are now part of legends, not part of canon anymore, so disney storywriters can now change the storyline for the force unleashed

@@joshuakeller7525 well the prologue could still happen, but Starkiller wouldn’t be there since he’s no longer canon. Although disney has recently been dropping quite a few Force Unleashed easter eggs so there’s hope for him.
I really hope that one youngling ketuni ended up with hondo it would really add more to him helping ezra in rebels and more hondo is always good

@@CrimsonRevolutionary I hear that Hondo is running some sort of transport business on a relatively newly established settlement on a system out at the galaxy's edge.
That would only make sense after the events of Rebels, where Hondo actually has some signs of character development.

Since Gunji is a Wookiee Jedi he could probably survive by hiding in the less explored areas of the jungles. He has a good chance of surviving the empire
He’ll most likely be cut off from the force after a few decades of not using it. Until maybe Luke finds him. Or he might even just stay with his tribe forever. We know Yoda thought he was dead, at least not a Jedi anymore (like Ezra and Ashoka).
When it comes to Gunji's padawan clan I am pretty sure all of them were killed, I can really only see 1 other member surviving that being Katooni who did have a bond with the pirate Hondo so she may have tried to find him, though I do doubt this.
First the human boy Petro was still very brash and headstrong, he would have tried to save who he could but would be killed trying to buy time for the others, I also suspect Katooni would have stayed to fight with him but I could see her surviving to the end.
Byph and Ganodi would also be killed while attempting to flee while Zatt would commandeer a ship and fly them off Courasaunt, leaving Gunji, Zatt and Katooni the only survivours from the group. They would attempt to stay together but after Zatt gets caught by the Inquisitors Gunji and Katooni would choose to split up.
With the we would jump time with the Bad Batch meeting Gunji and the fate of Katooni is left up in the air.
Pretty fun speculation. At the very least I just want to see their stories went even if it is just a reference to confirm all of their deaths would at least be some type of closure.
Edit: Also totally agree that Byph and Petro probs died running and fighting respectively.
However, I head cannon until proven otherwise that the one Rodian youngling we see hidden with Trilla in Fallen Order is Ganodi so she probs dead.
Which lead me to the a similar idea as you since I figured that left half the group as possibly alive.
I always really liked Gungi's lightsaber since it looks so cool.
Gotta be my favorite Jedi. Wookiees are probably one of my favorite intelligent species in the galaxy. So happy he survived and got to go back to Kashyyk!
Gungi was VERY lucky that Venomor wanted to wait until after his men captured him before reporting his presence to the Empire, as was Clone Force 99 and the Wookie tribe. Because an Inquisitor getting involved would've made their situation MUCH worse.
Hold up, what if Gungi saved Grogu????

I recall when the gathering arc aired, I thought the obvious: those younglings dont make it past order 66... do they? While im quite pleased Gunji did, they cant all get such a soft landing. Even if they do, they have to grow up in a terrible generation; Gunji included... not to mention where many wookies end up during the dark times!

Is anyone else getting sick and tired of Omega dragging the squad into some new peril every week? I get that they need the story to happen so some inciting incident has to occur. I'm just having a hard time buying that this team of battle hardened commandos just continue to allow this child to be left unsupervised, cause problems that threaten the lives of everyone in the squad and then don't discipline her in any way to correct her behavior. It's really stretched my suspension of disbelief beyond the breaking point.
Some people are saying they think gungi will die to Vader which I disagree with. Online it says that he is tarfuls successor to chief and even though the empire is the empire the Wookiee aren’t simply conquered like most other species. It is sad to assume even tho I think it’s better for the story that the rest of the initiates were killed tho. RIP Byph😢
Yeah, as soon as it was revealed that the young wookie in trouble was a Jedi, I immediately speculated that it was Gungi. (Of course, I couldn't remember the "Clone Wars" series youngling's name, but I knew of him, and when his name was said.... bingo!) When his name was mentioned, I actually cheered out loud. (In the middle of the night no less.)

Could be wrong but I read somewhere that Chewbacca was like 700 by the time of the OG Trilogy. Wookies live almost as long as Yoda's species, but idk if they can hit 900 or even a century old.
Wookies are cherished by the "force" maybe so that's why it doesn't force one to be a jedi or related.
Chewie was 200 years old during episode 4. Go back and look at the trading cards from the 1980's.

If Gungi is to survive, he can't stay on Kashyyyk. Bad stuff is going to be happening there soon and I can't imagine a Padawan as young as him enduring for long. Certainly without drawing massive attention.
Kashyyyk has lots of dense jungles and woodlands. Sure the Empire came in force but the Wookies could have hid deep in those lands. I think after the events of Bad Batch Gungi would have to learn to hold back his lightsaber and use the Force more to connect with nature.

While it was nice to see Gungi, I feel like they’re making too many Jedi survive Order 66. They’ve gotta cut back on it.

So 200 Jedi, i think they can add some more till we are there.
Especially since a lot of these Jedi died afterwards by Darth Vader and the 501st.
In the actual canon Luke has Jedi survivors join his new Jedi order.
Until the sequels came around that was but to be honest i really view them more as fanfiction.
Tbf if the rumors are true that only Gungi was the lone survivor out of his entire group that isn’t a very good ratio of survivability of order 66 let alone the aftermath of the order

I think it’d be cool if bad batch would feature / explain purge troopers possibky operating independently from inquisitors
Proposal for Disney. A kids show about gunji learning to live among other wookies and learning to live in the forest (not saying it would be good, but think it could work in Disney's system). Be like a modern version of the animated series ewok adventures (but probably better, ewok adventures was a lot like smurfs, while this would have some coming of age elements along with other genre mixes).
In the last three Star Wars Movie and in Solo, I got the Impress Chewbacca was Force Sensitive.
He been hiding it 4, 5 & 6, because Yoda taught him how to hide it so he would not get captured by the Sith.

A lightsaber wielding Wookie certainly sounds like fun but I'd worry he sizzled his own hair too often.
This episode was so disappointing. In Canon the imquisitors and vader can feel when someone uses the force and gunji did multiple times. Reg clones also saw him and didn't report it. We know the empire is on kashyyk already as seen in jedi fallen order (canon) so on theme with the clone wars I totally expected gunji to get cornered and have vader or an inquisitor (that we know lives) come into view and draw their blade ending the episode. There really wasn't any reason to add another irrelevant jedi surviving order 66 into Canon so im not sure what they were thinking here other than just being cute fan service. This show is too child friendly
another forshadowing moment happen in this ep that haven't really heard ppl talk about ironically, jedi use the over sized kyber to use the sun to make a powerful beam, which is used to melt *destroy* the ice wall, but will say this-if ice is forming that fast, not sure the jacket's they had would be enough honestly

Great stuff as always! As the Bad Batch is generally ‘we need money, let’s do this mission, Omega does a side quest’ the Gungi episode was a welcome relief. Kashyyyk is always beautiful too.
