It's nice to hear you saying how you're glad that the animals use the elements of the pond rather than complaining that you haven't had as many sightings as you wished, or that the moss is torn. As you said, you've made it for the animals and they use it. And sure they are grateful to have it!

    • @TheWildlifeHomestead

Agreed! I'm sure the use of the pond will fluctuate throughout the year, but I'm just glad it's been enjoyed by the ones who have visited so far!

I wonder if the lack of birds is due to
Avian flu. Here in Stratford Canada we lost about half the flock of swans kept in an artificial lake to this disease.

One thing I’ve noticed while being a regular to your channel is how optimistic and positive you are. You don’t let things that didn’t go exactly as planned get you down. You remain optimistic and are aware of and use the ups and downs to fuel your future decisions. Not only does that help the channel have an upbeat happy feel to it, it also shows a mature raw side to the work you do. Not everything always goes according to plan, but you always stick to it and provide amazing work. Thank you Stefano, I will continue to say it every video, but you absolutely make my day when you give us an update! Hope all is well and I know we all look forward to the next update!

I love putting little ponds into the landscape for the wildlife .. so much of our ecosystem maintenance is done with the aid of the critters, and they need that water! Thought for automated systems: Put a float switch in the top pond to close when the water drops, and another at the bottom, to close when it rises. When the circuit closes, the pump can come on, and cycle the water, without draining the lower pond during a drought.
I love that you caught the finches nesting .. they only stop by here for a quick meal before moving on.

I love these documentary style videos so much! I have a smaller man-made water source for birds and wildlife on my property, but for many years, I've had the ongoing problem of foxes urinating and pooping directly into the water and fouling it for other animals as it's quite pungent. I am constantly cleaning and refreshing it, especially from Feb-November when they're most active. It's always been strange to me that they mark territory by deliberately fouling a water source that they use as well. Glad to see they're just fertilizing the moss on the sides of your ponds at your place. lol

    • @TheWildlifeHomestead

@@TheWildlifeHomestead I'm in a residential area in Ontario, so the ones here might be classified as 'urban foxes' as they den in people's yards and under porches and everyone in the immediate neighbourhood sees them and the kits daily during spring/summer. It's a bit of a gong show as the vixen screams at dogs going on their daily leashed walks and they 'mark territory' on everything from outdoor furniture to backyard BBQ tops. Maybe the more wild ones in your area stay more 'refined' and polite. lol

Amazing work! I love how the animals and birds use the ponds and other areas of the property in their own unique way. Once the pond freezes over, how and where would the larger animals like the foxes find water to drink?

Thanks so much! And there are quite a few ways. Some will get water from the food they eat or the snow they eat. In our area there are also flowing streams and rivers that don't completely freeze in the winter, so that's a pretty reliable water source year round.

Wonderful. I love the bluejays. We have them here in NY and their call is so evocative.

Fantastic footage! Hmm, for the birds... have you considered building them a dust-bath somewhere? Maybe pile some rocks and create a flat basin-area and fill it with sand? Just a thought.

Thank You SO much for all your work on your Nature’s Heaven………..I live with in a heaven that I’ve helped create. Have had up to 50+ Hummingbirds that came over in October and stayed ‘til end of March. An honor to have them trust me. 🐝

Can't wait til spring to see what happens thru the warm parts of the year.. BTW I just LOVED the way you told the story of the baby gold finches perching in the pines above the pools, screaming at the parents to bring them food. That made me laugh all three times I replayed it!
