You are realy evolving your editing skills and how you talk to the audience. Realy nice to that you include figures in this video espacially when you are at Surugaya because like me there are alot of people that shop from their online store and its cool to see how big or detailed a figure is before ordering.
Dude I gotta say you've improved so much. I also noticed the BG soundtrack selection is super on point this vid. Just good vibes all around, pleasure to watch! Lfg!!
Finding this channel was defiantly the best retro find of the year for me. Love coming along on these game hunts. Just ordered a copy of Initial D for the PS1 from sendico for ¥ 1,233. Looks a lot of fun, thanks for the tip on that game. Greets from the UK
Love the growth of your channel and how the content is evolving. On my recent trip to Japan, I really noticed how much prices had gone up across the board for retro games in particular. Seems they've finally caught wind of foreign tourists snapping them up for bargain prices and have moved their prices to match. Managed to snaffle some Neo Geo AES games for a decent price, including KOF98 which was on my must buy list, but overall couldn't stomach the prices. Will be better off on ebay for a console! For reference, I paid approximately Y35000 for KOF98, Y5000 for Samurai Spirits, Y20000 for Real Bout Fatal Fury, Y6000 for Art of Fighting (super clean copy), and Y7000 for Samurai Spirits 2. Was very close to splurging on some big boy titles, but held fire as funds were drying up On a side note, I found a bunny girl Bulma (white outfit, not the same one you showed in your video pop up) for Y3500 which is a great price for her, but sadly for you it was at Mandarake in Osaka Den Den Town....road trip maybe? ;) I can repair broken figures, but would have needed to bring my tools to do so. Hope you didn't through out the broken one, as even a repair with a noticeable seamline would tell a great story and align with wabi-sabi principle :) PS: That Flying Power disc is INSANELY overpriced!! valued at maybe Y25000 tops, not the stupid number they want!
Actually a pretty awesome selection of STGs on the megadrive there. Kyukyoku tiger, whip rush, darius II, etc. i gotta check this place out when i come to town for TGS!
Great video and a different kind of second hand store is cool to see. Adding some toys or figures to some of your videos would be great since your already at these stores anyway and game hunting is adjacent to that sort of thing too.
Hey bro, great video! I think your commentary mic (you in the chair) was a clipping a little bit in the beginning tho. It was quite loud and heard some static
i'm close to that store and few years ago they had a lot more rare stuff, now it became more expensive and i mostly go justo check if they have something interesting on the gunpla side (the gunplas are also really expensive now)
28:15 I've been wanting that PS Vita Miku so bad, but man, those price Mr Wright Way found one at Trader for ¥36800, hopefully the price will go down by the time I'm there
Interesting Surugaya store! The one in Nagoya is awesome! Glad I could influence you to get into more SNK and fighting games haha! I wanna see you save up for an AES soon! :D And I got that Initial D game too for 1200 yen :D But mine is "The Best Version". OG version with spine-card was beautiful!
Serial Experiments Lain was the first anime I ever watched that wasn't a typical mainstream anime, And surprisingly enough it was sold at Walmart in Canada. This was like 15 years ago though, lol.
Love the Halo killer, KILLZONE!!! Fun factiod: Halo actually ended up doing better in Japan because of Killzone's double LLs in the title. I mean, talk about not being conscientious of one's own demographic. It was that Kaz swag.
TIL the 'itami' thing! definitely don't mind the figure tangents though. definitely thinking as soon as I can to get something new for saturn, my collection is definitely lacking compared to my dreamcast stuff, haha. seeing those copies of beatmania IIDX 16 EMPRESS made me wish I could import it and the controller... that was the last game in the series on PS2 and also included a second disc of 'greatest hits' from throughout the series. definitely one I miss playing!
Sooooo many figures for around 1k-5k yen..... My wallet would hate me. And I have no Idea how I would handle shipping...... Lol. Store seems to have alot of varied inventory, And to me most of the prices are great... if we compare to europe. :P I'd go ham on PS Vita & figures there. Thank you for showing this Gem.
Another day in Japan with Pim I got a guy in Japan sending me a PS2 with Dragon Quest VIII AJPW Soul of the Champion Fire Pro Wrestling G AJW Joshi Pro Wrestling controllers memory cards and cables for only 50 bucks feel it was a good deal I hope we’re getting a Live from you soon always the best traveling with you and seeing what’s going on in a Japan with video games wrestling food culture and life itself I appreciate you got me back into imports again blessed to see all from 1980-Now what a life
I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't done a remake for The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past in the same style as The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening on the Switch. That was Fubuki from One Punch Man. But of course it's a bikini version. It'd be nice to see a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages & Seasons on the Switch. Final Fantasy Tactics is rumored to get PS5 updated version. There is a PSP version that is an update of the PS1 original though. 22:15 Capcom vs. SNK 2 is a great game. I hope we get a Capcom vs. SNK collection like how they recently announced Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics. 23:02 SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom is a game that I've wanted. It was supposed to get a PS2 release in the US but last minute they canceled it and it was released on Xbox in the US. 23:22 In the US, they released the entirety of a lot of these series in a manga box. All of these KOF games... It'd be nice to se a collection of them on consoles.
Pretty much, it's not that sought after and there's a ton of it out there lol, doesn't help that it's all in Japanese so the west doesn't care to import it Also the yen to USD conversion is kind of extreme these days
I love looking at figures, but would love you to pass buy the Pokémon card selection as your in the shops anyway, i think people that are into games are into everything else related to games.
I have a question I will be visiting japan in 2 weeks. And im looking to gamble on the famicom/super famicom console from the junk section to bring home with me. The question is are there any left for 330 yen? Saw these prices on an old video so maybe not up to date anymore.
There are some still out there because some stores don't bother repricing all of their junk stock, but don't expect to find one at hard offs near the big cities. For example, Pim found a 300 yen super famicom on his 6/30 irl stream when he went to a Hard Off about an hour outside Tokyo by intercity train.
Well i dont know if you saw the news about book off and hard off. but i hope that isnt going to affect retro game hunt videos like you or the others man...
Oh man Ive been to this branch before a few years ago on my trip, the price changed for sure. I really like your arcade exploration vids but I enjoy these as well.
You have an interesting channel - but it probably also amounts to some extend to the price surge also at rural shops nowadays I'd say. lots of "I found this cheap rural shop! videos followed by "Why is everything so expensive?!" videos. by that I don't mean to single out your videos. it's more about the general situation. PS: the Neo Geo AES titles are rather expensive considering the prices were around 500-2000 Yen for many of those games in the video. the heavy hitters again already cost a little fortune back then and have become even more expensive.
It's a fair criticism and I don't completely disagree but I also think the recent price hike is/was inevitable with the "everything bubble" that we're in after Covid. It's definitely more than just TH-cam videos. Been collecting for over 12 years on and off and living in Japan for like 7 of those, there's been tons of channels doing this for over a decade (like KidShoryuken) not really having any impact on the scene (in Japan) up until the recent tourism boom. My only goal here is to make fun videos relating to a hobby that I love and that's still widely accessible in Japan but like I said your criticism is completely valid. It's a big reason why I'm very adamant on not reselling and leaving things be when I don't "need" them, trying to set an example etc. Regardless, thanks for watching! EDIT: Sick NEOGEO collection btw, hope you held onto those lol
@@4amLaundry Covid was a bane unto the hobby in my opinion. And yes it all started way before YT became a thing. But I think the reach of all TH-camrs together do have some sort of impact. Singleing out TH-cam as the only culprit would be too easy ofc though. I remember back in 1999 or 2002 when already the foreign resellers (SamoHung etc.) where kings in the scene due to their access to the asian/Japanese markets. nowadays due to globalization it has become so easy to get what you need straight from Japan, even a grandma could order Japanese retro stuff for her grandkids... and the inflation in Japan right now also fuels this even more ofc. Together with the whole "Tourist situation".
another thing that also started many years ago is the I call it "system jumping" thing. when one system got too expensive people started evading towards other systems who then undergo the same development.
My go to before moving here was Yamatoku classic, $0 starting bids on Ebay and you could get lucky ordering whatever haha, still have some of those "finds" lying around somewhere. It sucks because card collecting is completely ruined for me. On the other hand I'm aware that the deals that I pass up because I already have them are most likely scooped up by resellers wether I make a video or not. I do think it's not as serious as other hobbies though, it would be crazy to travel 2 hours from tokyo (like I did in this video) to save a little on some games that are already cheaper online. Interesting to see where this all goes in the next 5 years since the bubble might burst and all of this would be completely worthless (again lol).
@@4amLaundry I would appreciate a healthy downgrade in pricings - right now it is just ridiculous. I even wonder how many people actually have any reasons to buy the expensive stuff besides for Instagram and Co. it can't be for the content since 99% off all games can be either played via Emu or on newer consoles or even flashcard solutions etc.
Oh I'm aware lol, it's the reason I rarely look for them. If I can ever get a (reasonably priced) AES or consolized MVS I'll just get a multicart and call it a day. That or a Mister.
Bass when it's associated with fish is pronounced like ass with a b at the start. When bass is associated with music it's pronounced like base in baseball. The character is n rock man aka MegaMan is actually bass like the musical instrument but some people confuse it for the other pronunciation. Not trying to bash at all just trying to help ya a bit. Not offense meant
