That percussion set tho!! 😮 There's not a single drum in it, yet it provides exactly the perfect set of percussive sounds for this style of music! I wish I knew the names of all the components on that thing! I recognize the top half of a hi-hat on there... everything else IDK what that is! LOL! Anyone?
There is a cowbell, a couple of woodblocks, a "ratchet" (the crank handle thing), and a small bell (could be a "ring for service" type of bell, or a bicycle or typewriter bell), and, or course, the washboard. This player uses finger thimbles for tapping, which is also quite common. It is fun to see and hear washboard players. Each tend to collect and create their own personalized assortment of gadgets. This guy is an excellent player.
It's the first time I see a singer using a megaphone... it makes a wonderful vintage sound
