yes. it's funny how sometimes when you make it simpler and easier it actually works better. i made 2 other setups (during the design phase of this project) but with those you had to cut up the cans and they weren't nearly as stable so i tossed those ideas.
hi and thank you! i appreciate the kind words. when you said movie magic i first thought you meant the rooster crowing at the start of the second scene. that was good timing.
hi and thanks! yes, it's so easy to put together and works so well that i'm sitting here thinking it might be the best "quick build" stove i've ever made (since you can just put it together with common household items and no tools needed).
Some hand sanitizers have perfume in them so they do stink a bit when you burn them so I do recommend doing this outside and keep a lid on top of your pan. You don't want your food to taste like burnt perfume. Great stove by the way though 👍 !
@@desertsun02 Yes, and the more People leave comments and like your videos, the better for EVERYONE! I really do like your Videos, and tried a couple of them, but I don't live near anywhere near a beach to get the white beach sand or even get small River rocks you have in other videos...I am thinking about purchasing 3" chimney pipes and an elbow to make a stove like you showed it here filled with Sand AROUND the chimney pipe. A metal can big enough to hold the pipe and the Sand...I am trying to make a simpler Version of the "Cobb" Grill. I burned the plastic housing, by using more then 6 brickets to heat the grill. So now I am looking for a Homemade Cobb where I can use MORE then 10 bricks for longer cooking times 🥴
Awesome! I have been using bricks instead of cans with sand to hold up my pans. The cans would be cleaner, and when not using, I could put a dog food plastic lid on the sand so it doesn't dump out. I have used all kinds of ways for cooking with hand sanitizer since I learned about your heaters. I wonder if you could cook biscuits in a cast iron dutch oven over that hand sanitizer fire... You would then have emergency heat, stove AND oven. My mind is blown... I gotta try it.
Awesome! The local food bank was giving out bottles and bottles of hand sanitizer during the pandemic. I literally have about a half gallon of the stuff.
cLAW, it's so cheap some places, they are giving it away. I was gifted with dozens of cases of gallon jugs of the stuff. It was like gold a couple years ago. They manufactured too much. Look around. I've seen it discounted in a lot of places.
Also I saw a video where you can make your own with equal parts 70% rubbing alcohol + cooking oil. Anyone tried this? I’m not sure if it would have to be a specific kind of cooking oil.
hi. your guess is correct. you should not put fuel into a hot metal sauce cup. these metal sauce cups (ramekins) are usually sold in at least 4 packs so you should use a cool cup each time.
hi. it will vary depending on what fuel you use and how much you put in the ramekin but 15 to 40 mins is a general average. the ramekin itself should last a while.
@desertsun02 that's great ty! I made similar setup that's works great! I haven't found an oil or alcohol that's last more than abt 15 min yet! What's your favorite for heat ouput vs.ti.e duration?
@donkrebs3554 i've tried 5 different types of fuel so far but i don't really have a favorite. the one that last the longest is probably the bio ethanol fuel i use. i can get up to 38 minutes when i use that. 🙂
Question: basically a solar question, I have a rain barrel outside I do not want to freeze when it's winter. It's inside a small shed. I want a small solar heater inside with a panel on outside. How would I install an automatic thermostat so it doesn't catch anything on fire in the shed and how can I install a switch? Can you do something quick In a video for something like that?
Do you know if you can use this system in the house or indoors? Did the hand sanitizer give off any type of noxious smell like isopropyl alcohol does? Thanks!🙂👍
hi there. you can definitely use this inside. the hand sanitizer i used was lemon scented so i could smell that but not a big deal. you can use several different types of fuel with this unit. the best type of all is probably bio-ethanol. that burns very clean. denatured alcohol works very well too.
from the comments someone alluded to perlite is so porous it "traps" gaseous vapors and may even reburn them....that hiram guy said it makes the alc last longer.....you should try it
I go dumpster-diving and I got gallons and gallons of the stuff when I wash clothes sometimes I'll heat up two and a half gallons of water with hand sanitizer.

02:23 - Movie magic 😆 Outstanding work, another brilliant idea, demonstrated perfectly, thank you Sir, very much appreciated 👍🏻

Cool idea, yes! More importantly now I know what I'm fixin to eat. :)
Thumbs up video Brother ~John
hi and thanks! i'm thinking i want a grilled cheese right now
More great ideas! Thanks for sharing
Brilliant! Thank you!
Wow! Thanks for sharing, great idea and can be put together quickly. I love it! 😉❤

hi. the brand i use is lemon scented but it's pretty mild. the scent just blows off into the air. it won't 'flavor' the food.
Mine don't have any smell or residue when I cook over them. I use them inside with no issue.
Phenomenal video! Even in emergency situations you showcase ways someone could boil water to have clean drinking water. Cool stuff as always.
Thank you!
Brilliant!
Good video , thanks for sharing , God bless !
Thanks, you too!
Thank you for this Video...all for the algorithm...
hi. i hope the algorithm picks up on this video. the info could potentially help lots of people.

@@desertsun02 absolutely show some more of your great work
How long will it last?
Cleaver idea, is it liquid hand sanitiser or gel?
thank you! it's listed as gel on the bottle (but it is fairly runny). they sell that brand on amazon if you want the exact kind.
@@desertsun02 Thanks that’s a good idea and item to have in an emergency at home.

I have six cases. Same from a food bank. I need somewhere to store it though. Wife is tired of seeing it in the living room
EXCELLENT! Thank you very much!
hi and thank you! it's one of the best 'all around' stoves i've ever made.

How do you factor your cost of hand sanitizer vs pure alcohol?

I see it all the time at super low prices at the swap meet.
Can u use inside for heating when powercut please.
hi. i've never used hand sanitizer for heating (just cooking). but you might be able to use it for heating
@desertsun02 thank u I'm in England .and felt it's time to b prepared so the useful box is growing .
Do you think that Purell hand sanitizer is a good sanitizer to use?
hi. i've never tried that specific brand so i couldn't say for sure (but maybe other commenters/viewers have?)
Brilliant
Awesome! Many food banks, panties, and clinics give out hand sanitizer for free. Stock up!
Add the $1.25 store too! Big bottles!
that's good info to know ✔🙂 thanks for sharing it.

How long does it burn for? Im guessing its a bad idea to refill it will 90% once its hot

Can't small cans of tuna fulfill the same role? I'm glad I found your channel, you saved me!
Can we use dirt instead
hi. i would think so.
