I have lived in Taiwan for over a year, starting as a tourist but found Taiwan so irresistible, I kept going back. Hint: Taipei is a big city consisting of neighborhoods. Each neighborhood has its favorite breakfast spot. These can be brick and glass structures or hole-in-the-wall places or even a food cart on the sidewalk. Go early and look for the line of locals. The price is rarely over $4-5 for a good breakfast. Once a $1 million red Ferrari was parked outside a hole-in-the-wall breakfast place. We sat next to the owners of the Ferrari - a middle-aged couple without smugness or pretension. They used to live in the neighborhood but came back often for breakfast at this nook of a place. So I was able to identify many places in Taipei. The best places won’t be the Hyatt, W- Hotel, or the Mandarin Oriental. Those are all nice too and are to be enjoyed. For lunch I found a spectacular sushi counter in the middle of a market on Dihua Street. Other places too, but it’s the same - look for the long lines at small places.

What if you don't like soy milk or rice rolls ??? Unfortunately we're in Taipei for the next month with work. Also we've all found the people to be very rude here, my colleagues have been secretly taking videos which they intend to upload to TH-cam when we get back to the U.K. Any tips on food would be appreciated, I'm over McDonald's & Domino's. Thank you.
