I recently bought a Nagao Higonokami and I'm waiting for it to come in! I was really interested to find a blade like the Kiridashi you showed, but I didn't know the name -- thank you!
Do you have a link for the hammered-steel black Higo? Been trying to find one like that for a while. Which, by the way, I believe they classify as "Higo-style" knives, made by Miyamoto rather than by Nagao.
@Yellow_Devil_ I bought that knife at the Hida Tool store in Berkeley, CA, many years ago, so I don't have a link for that exact knife but the store does have a website although I don't believe they still have that exact knife. hidatool.com/
@@workbenchknifeandtool the blade gives me an optical illusion because of the curve. It looks like the middle part already reached the inside of the handle. Thanks for the info.
I’m originally from Japan and glad to find this very good review of Japanese traditional knives. 🎉
Thank you!
What are some that Japanese knives should we be on the lookout for. Love Japanese culture
What kind of knife are you looking for? The Japanese make all kinds.
This is great content sir; glad it came up in my feed. So much more informative than a review/unboxing; thanks for making it.
@@echos-myron thank you!
Very nice buddy! Thanks for sharing these with us. So cool! Great ones to have in your collection my friend!

Thank you for watching and commenting! Enjoy the Higonokami!
Sk5 is good carbon steel , I personally like that the Japanese don't remove forging marks ,it's beautiful even on a simple tool.
I couldn't agree more!
A Higonokami is just fun to have. For 25 dollars, why not?
Exactly! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Reminds me of alot old Turkish cakija knives
I'll have to look those up. I am not familiar with Turkish cakija knives. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I'm very bothered for a long time by the fact that higonokami knife, the edge rest itself inside the handle. Does it make it some spot kinda dull?
@DersNoNem the way the blade is curved, the hinge section of the blade stops the blade from closing far enough for the edge to contact the handle.

That blade shape appears closer to a sheepsfoot
@@TimJoyce-y8z yes but is a very old and traditional design for a Japanese knife.
