  • I’m going on vacation!! And of course, I had to sew up a storm before I took to the beach. Join me as I whip up a nautical vintage inspired sundress from the Gertie Sews Jiffy Dresses book along with some other beachy themed outfits for my upcoming trip.
    The fabric is thrifted cotton for #sustainability!
    It was such a great holiday and this dress was absolutely perfect for it. I encourage you to follow along and make one for your next trip!
    I’m back from my vacation to edit and post this for y’all. Please subscribe and let me know in the comments below what you’d like to see me make next!

    Couple pro tips: edge stitch from the top side for much better results. Secondly only cut notches in grading on outside curves where the seam allowance will squish into a smaller area. For inside curves just do single clips to allow the seam allowance to spread. Thirdly, only use pins when absolutely necessary. And remove before they reach the presser foot

    The fabric you chose is very pretty and the dress fits you perfectly. Your holiday looked amazing. Very colourful. I'd love to see your packing tips. I always take too much and come home with unworn items, so any tips would be gratefully received. X

    Thank you for hacking the pattern for us. I own all of Ferties sewing books and I also sometimes can’t figure them out. The top part of the collar of the dress was one of them. Thank you!!!!!

    Great video and lovely result. You looked stunning in it. I loved how you pieced it together though it appeared complicated to this beginner. I would appreciate any more of your makes and wonder if a pencil skirt would fit into your sewing/filming schedule as that would be so helpful. Meantime any packing and wardrobe suggestions for trips would be most welcome. ❤

      Thanks so much for watching! I know that sewing can be intimidating as a beginner, I’ve been there! Even the experts make mistakes so I’m learning to be patient with myself 😅 I do have some pencil skirts in mind, so subscribe to keep an eye out for those! 🎉

    I enjoy your videos for entertainment value, but I also appreciate that they’re sew-alongs. Battling written instructions can really take the joy out of sewing, and having your interpretation explained clearly will be very helpful. I’ve always wanted to make this dress and now you’ve made that seem possible.
    They say that the collecting of tools and materials for a craft hobby is a separate hobby in itself and I may say I’m very, VERY good at it. 😂. I own all of Gertie’s books and would recommend the Jiffy Dress and Ultimate Dress books to you. As for your blue lace dress, I was certain it was true vintage until you told us otherwise. 👍🏻😍

      Awh thanks so much for watching! I agree, I’m a very visual learner so written instructions often leave me baffled 😂 I’m glad this was helpful for you! 🎉

    Your dress is lovely 🥰 thanks for all the tips with the tricky parts! Have you ever “faced your facing “ with the interfacing? Kittenish behaviour has a video showing how. Doesn’t work on all fabrics but looks good when it does.

    • @TwirlinTime
      @TwirlinTime  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks so much for watching! And yes, I interfaced the facings off camera with a medium weight fusible interfacing. It’s hard to see in the video, but it’s there adding structure. 😊

    • @emmadavey3892
      @emmadavey3892 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TwirlinTime what I mean is sewing on the interfacing along the non seam edge then folding it down and ironing it on leaving the “raw” edge enclosed . Will you be doing more Gertie dresses? Jiffy and ultimate dress book are my favourites. I’ve only made the popover so far. Twirl dress is on my list, I’ve had the fabric for about 4 years , lol 😝

    I would love to know if you dyed the tablecloth to make the dress. Can you do a video in that dress? I love that you are on TH-cam. You are just beautiful! More sewing videos too, Please!

      Thank you so much! And thank you for watching!! The tablecloth was from my local thrift store and came in that beautiful blue colour! It’s also covered in tiny rhinestones which I love. I’m sure there will be more tablecloth dresses to come!

    • @TwirlinTime
      @TwirlinTime  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      aw thank you!! The tablecloth came that way! I love the shade of blue, and it was pre-rhinestoned too! I'll definitely make more table cloth dresses in the future, thanks so much for watching!

I was grateful also that you mentioned what the blue dress was - great job! - I want to make that one too now lol ... great work on your videos, thanks for making them!

    What is your cutting table measurements please? It’s been a decade since I’ve had a sewing room so starting to plan it now :D

    • @TwirlinTime
      @TwirlinTime  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So exciting! My cutting table is two ikea table tops on top of two Ikea credenza/storage units. I store my fabric in the cubbies under the table, and the height really works for me!
