17:59 That turbo looks extremely sooty. My Hilux gained quite a few of its original power back from a spot cleanup from the intake, throttle etc and a EGR blanking plate. Love the content!

thanks for your appreciation, im a mechanical technician at Toyota and have worked on the exact same sort of 4x4's, and many other 4x4's, if we only had small hatchbacks we wouldn't get covered in dust and sand, we wouldn't have to strap cars to the hoists and finally we wouldn't have to rip out random planks of wood wedged up under the car. if your a tradie and you have your hilux in for a service, please install an air freshener
Definetly need to do an intake clean before you get a tune. A Hilux with that high kms generally have an almost plugged solid intake manifold which restricts the crap out of the engine which is why it’s soo slow. I did an intake clean on my hilux and the amount of shmoo is the intake manifold absolutely blew me away. Once I finished reassembling the rig it was a completely different car. Also need to install a catch can to prevent it from clogging up into the future aswell.

Got myself a 2013 Pajero last month with all the good diesel turbo power, doing some basic mods, just installed some 9" spotties for street cred! Put in a Joying head unit and dash cams to catch all the action. Can't wait to see more on my fav 4wd channel!

If the brakes feel bad on this, make sure you adjust the rear shoes up. They have an auto ratcheting system that never works. If the pedal feels spongey on first application then goes firm, the shoes need adjusting. The LSPV may also be need adjusting as well.
Hey guys, been watching since the driveway days. Mad to see the Hilux back! Keep an eye on the turbo, my '05 had issues with the stepper motor and that eventually killed the turbo. I also had issues with injectors and glow plugs 👍 one of the glow plugs actually got seized in head

2.7L petrol dual cab hilux workmate was the greatest ute/car ive ever owned. Rocker cover gasket replacement was the only problem i ever had with it in over 10 years.
I'm just waiting for the collab at this point. Theres another channel that 4x4's 7 days a week, they could probably learn a fair bit from you two and your combined 200 years of 4x4 experience.
Nice work boys. If neck deep water crossings are next on the ultimate 4wd channel, please add some front and rear diff plus gearbox and transfer case breathers. Will save these components from water ingress = failure. Cheap and easy install.

This channel inspired me to get into offroading so I imported a 1kz-te Hiace into America, slapped on some muddies and a snorkel and started 4 WHEEL DRIVING, PEOPLE!!🔥 🔥
I'd definitely get new uprated pads considering you feel the old tank has bad brakes. Braking performance on something with loads of unsprung mass, and that has been maintained as cheaply as possible, is the most important safety item after quality tyres. The cheapest hilux will have been maintained as cheaply as possible too, so high quality brake pads are a must, like EBC yellow pads or similar, to replace whatever pva and pencil lead mix you have in there now

Wilwood for example gets a lot of returns and complaints due to user error from not performing the correct bedding in procedure. EBC has a special coating to speed up the bedding in period on their brake pads, but the road use pads aren't instant use, and almost no road intended brake pads are. EBC yellowstuff pads are not intended for track use, and have a fairly soft compound designed for grip and quietness. They will also chew up brake disks if they get too hot. This is not to be confused with "EBC Yellowstuff Truck" which is designed for use in heavy vehicles and towing applications with high temperature resistance. Proper racing brakes will produce a lot more noise, a lot less dust, and last far longer at higher heat ranges without scoring the metal or overheating. EBC makes high friction pads to increase braking performance for regular road use. More friction means more heat, ergo to use high friction non track pads for track type driving you're going to have a really bad time. EBC Yellowstuff aren't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, as they're designed to be used for the road where you shouldn't be driving in anger or constantly at risk of boiling your brake fluid. Bluestuff pads are much more suitable as they can also be used for the road, but are very high heat resistant. If you literally cooked your brake pads in three corners then essentially you bought the wrong brake pads. You might as well have bought a flat blade screwdriver for a philips head screw, tried to use it while it was still in the packaging, then complained that it didn't get the job done. Do a search for "EBC yellowstuff Brake pads melting" and they'll all be complaints from people doing track days. EBC says on their own website under the bulletpoints for EBC Yellowstuff "For track use Bluestuff"
I work on ship engines. One of the biggest things I don't think people realize is that we don't put a 60mm wrench on a 60mm nut. We actually stretch the bolt/stud and the nut comes off by hand. That's how we know the torque on the nuts without a torque wrench.

10:00 Flashback to 1986. Working for an earthmoving company and they'd just bought four spanking new Landcruiser utes as site vehicles. I decided to take it for a run through a borrow pit that I thought only had a little bit of water in it. Yeah, it was a little deep. Ute had 54km on the clock and I hydro-locked it and bent some rods...and got a bit of water in the cab...

An f44 will fix that turbo issues and provide more power
Typical 1kd things, injector chewers and even the 1gd engines ( current hilux diesel 2.8 ) os just ad bad for having glow plugs seize in the head.

If it had a DPF it would have pressure amd temperature sensor's before and after. Also DPFs are usually bigger in length or diameter

10:00 Flashback to 1986. Working for an earthmoving company and they'd just bought four spanking new Landcruiser utes as site vehicles. I decided to take it for a run through a borrow pit that I thought only had a little bit of water in it. Yeah, it was a little deep.
