I think there's an argument that the risky Germany picks are not as risky as for some other teams. They will be playing in the first matches of each gameday during the group stages, so you'll always have the opportunity to sub them off if they don't do anything. If you've got Fernandes waiting on your bench for the end of each matchday, then a punt on a high-ceiling but risky player like Sané or Gündogan feels more reasonable. This reasoning also makes risky Belgium and Portugal players even more risky - they play at the end of each matchday, so you won't be able to replace them if they blank. I've been playing UCL fantasy for a couple of years and the different structure to FPL makes the decision making very different.
What do you mean won't be able to replace them? You can sub out any player after full time and before kick off of the next game? Nobody plays at the same time during the group stages Example Lukaku 5pm and Mbappe 8pm on the same day (17th). You just sub out Belgium players immediately after full time but before the France game kicks off at 8pm? Portugal play on the 18th anyway How is having Portugal and Belgium and different to Germany and Portugal?
@@nezkeys79 because if your German player blanks, chances are that literally all of your other players are yet to play, since Germany are the very first game of matchday one, so you can sub them on in their place. Portugal are literally the last team to play in matchday one, so if you bring on your portugese player and they blank, you're stuck with their points. Belgian players aren't as risky portugese ones because of this, but they're still riskier than say german or english players
@jacklee469 ah that doesn't really bother me. You can have your players all spread out or go front and back yeah. I'm just picking good players with good fixtures so don't care about that
There's only one sub deadline for each day (kickoff of first match), so you couldn't sub Belgian players out for French ones. So on the last day of MD1 you have to take a punt on Portugal players (you won't even see lineups) and hope they do well, because you won't be able to replace them. Worst case scenario is they don't feature at all and you end up with a 0.
