    Many thanks for covering the lighting in the review; I have the green version with small yellow panels and thought the lighting connections were faulty due to the brightness of the middle cars eclipsing the ends, now I know why. Excellent presentation style also 👍🏻

    I focus on the Southern Region and this is right up my street. I bought mine some years ago when it was cheaper. An excellent model, notwithstanding the fiddly coupling system, that is way ahead of the Hornby old tooled 4-VEP both in terms of accuracy and performance (Let's see if the forthcioming new tooled version will shape up). Bachmann have cornered the bigger Southern Region outline EMUs. This 4-CEP can be run with the recently released 4-BEP and the Class 419 MLV to recreate a Victoria to Dover boat train from the 1970s. Such trains were the workhorses of continental rail travel until superseded by the Eurostar in the 1990s.

    As always ErviRail, you posted a video about a train, I watched it and I immediately went out and brought a Green and Yellow one, which was good timing as I managed to get a second hand one for £106.
    You are right, this is a nice train, it runs very smooth.

      At £106, Santa Claus came early! Thanks for your comments and confidence in my recommendation!

    I picked up the BR Green variant a few years ago at a great price when it was on sale. The model itself is such a good runner and the smoothest. I agree with your review 100%. The only thing that I’m not a fan of is when coupling them together and taking them apart. 👍

    • @EuviRail
      @EuviRail  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for that. Yes, the assembly can be a bit challenging. I've added my procedure for this to the video description. You end up with only one tricky connection to make and I've found it works well for me.

    Fantastic video - I passed on this for £110 back in 2011 when i was flirting with getting back into the hobby. I was flabbergasted last year when I started shopping again to see that it had risen to £400+.
    Luckily, I managed to get myself one from Rails last week for £220 (seems reasonable considering the crazy prices we are seeing these days).
    Really enjoying your reviews, succinct and visually pleasing. Always helps me make an informed decision.

    Just brought the green version in an auction. Only allowed a very quick check and test as it is a Christmas present but seems excellent. Your review is therefore timed perfectly for me and seems I might have got a real bargain!

    Thank You Eugene ! I wasn't even looking for this 4-car EMU but several years ago I saw it at Hattons for .......... £89 !!
    That was an absolute no-brainer and my friend and train doctor Tony installed a decoder in it (no sound).
    Amazing how reliable it ran in BOTH directions also "pushing" with the power bogie at the rear !
    I have the 31-427A but there are no differences I'd say. Cheers, Jan

    • @EuviRail
      @EuviRail  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Jan. Wow, £89, I nearly feel ripped off now with what I paid! Seriously, that was a steal as this is a high quality set.
      Hard to find bargains like that these days.

  • @johnoneill5661

    At £203.96 it's a very tempting set, however at £419.95 it's daylight (and nightlight) robbery. It is a shame about the lighting but it does look absolutely wonderful running round your layout, like they were made for each other. Very tempting.👍👍

    • @EuviRail
      @EuviRail  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks John. Same as yourself I wouldn't touch it at the old price but hard to resist when discounted. The BR Green livery is actually nice as well.

    Class 411, its a good model, runs well and nicely detailed. Good review. Disagree with you on large motors visible within DMUs. The old 158 is better than the new Bachmann 158. Those two tiny bogie motors have minimal power and if one fails probably takes the other with it. In the long run robustness matters.

    • @EuviRail
      @EuviRail  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Alan, I'll never argue against performance or robustness!

    Great review, I bought mine a few years ago when they first came out in the BR Green, I think in 2016 it was about GBP189, just recently bought the 4BEP at the ridiculous price of AUD798 (about GBP400) from an Australian Model Shop, however worked out at about the same if I bought it from a UK dealership. Haven't had the issue of the lights at all, I do have an issue with the inter-coach connectors in my opinion they are awful. I wanted the recent 4BEP to run an prototypical rake of 8 cars, although more often it was part of an 12 car set. Have to see if I can pick up a bargain BR Green set to make that a model reality, thanks for the review ...Drew

    • @EuviRail
      @EuviRail  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that Drew and best of luck in your search to bring your 12 car project to completion. That should be pretty impressive on the track.

    I got one also at the discounted price. Two items not mentioned hat I think are relevant. 1 you cannot change the directional lighting if running backwards. This is frustrating on an end to end shuttle layout. 2 the corridor gaps between coaches is too large. This can be solved by replacing with Bachmann class 101 coupling bars

    • @EuviRail
      @EuviRail  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for raising those two points. The directional issue is common to a number of Bachmann EMUs unfortunately and that's definitely a much bigger issue for end to end layouts.

  • @paulisnotonfire

    I got a second hand one of these a year or two ago now for under £200. Haven't run it a great deal or in a while, but I remember it being a capable model. So I can't fully comment on the lightening difference between the cars, though it seemed fine.
    It does look good in the BR Green though.
    The biggest problem I have with it, it is the drawbar connectors. It always feels like I may snap one when connecting everything together or the socket they go into.
    Cheers

    • @EuviRail
      @EuviRail  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that Paul. I've added my procedure for adding the EMU to the track and connecting everything up safely into the video description. I use it all the time now with my Bachmann EMUs/DMUs and I find it easier than what they recommend in the documentation. The BR Green is nice for sure.

    Got one for £150 a few years ago, doesn't fit my layout, but It has to be one of the best models I have, although the coach lighting is a bit letdown, ive been considering putting a couple of light strings in to improve it

    • @linesided

      mine has really good lighting in the 2 center coaches, but kind of underlit on the power car and trailer. One slight gripe is that there is only one direction of lighting

    My opinion is of the 2 I have (br full blue + br blu/gr), great models. Smooth and quiet with a cruise that seems effortless. Compare it to Hornby's 4vep and it exceeds it as a cathedral does a parish church. Kernow's unpowered 4tc has no lighting issues but is expensive.
